This little corner shop houses all manner of tableware and cooking utensils at decent prices like Regas earthernware dishes and Italian Bialetti coffee macinettas, hard-wearing piping bags, conical strainers and tongs designed especially for fish fillets, through to large-scale rice cookers and cured meat slicers like those found at proper delis. For bona fide chefs, they also sell industry grade uniforms, including aprons, whites and toques, and offer trade discounts. Meanwhile, home cooks like me can simply revel in the awesome range of useful items and baking products - multicoloured cupcake patties and alphabet-shaped icing cutters, just to name a couple.

Do not ever go to Victoria's Basment in Artarmon! Today I…read morewas looking for food colouring and found like 15 bottles which where out of date since 2017/2018. When I went nicely to the next staff member she told me to go see the manager. When I approached the manager and showed her the out of date bottle she started screaming at me: "That's the suppliers fault and not outs. They must have delivered out of date products. We just filled it up. It's not our responsibility to check them when filling." I was shocked and just said no need to yell at me and yes it is your responsibility as a store manager to make sure your products are in date. Manager: "Fuck off and leave the store if you are not happy!" Seriously, is that a way to treat a customer? I have been going to this store for 6 years now and every time I or another customers talked to her she gets rude and screams at you. Glad the new Kitchen Warehouse opened around the corner as I will refuse going there from now on.

From tea pots to knives, Victoria Basement has what you need for the kitchen, home, bathroom, gifts and so forth. It always seems to be a bit quiet at this one probably cause i go through the week so not sure about the weekends. Staff was very accommodating in helping me find a pairing knife! I love the tea pot sets!

Gina Cucina sells top-quality pots and pans and glassware, a wide range of Global and Scanpan Knives, themed cake tins (these are my favourite, with bee-hives, caterpillars and houses), $150 toasters, a bunch of other appliances and shelves of Italian stove-top espresso makers. They've got cook books, keep-cups and the leader of my coffee-cup wish list: piccolo sized porcelain 'crumpled plastic' cups. Gina Cucina also stocks a huge range of intriguing and inventive consumer products. You can imagine the delight on the faces of those who found the market - "Peeling garlic is annoying ... lets make something that makes it seem easier and fun!" Strawberry top snatchers, pasta measures and garlic peelers, these products are my favourite. As I'm laughing at the ridiculous nature of consumerism, I'm secretly thinking of ways to justify buying these necessary items for myself.

I found a 44L aluminium boiler for $140 advertised on their website. I called the company to…read moreconfirm that the product was available in store. I then went down that same day and met the same person I spoke to on the phone (Miro). He had difficulty finding the product on their database, so I helped him by giving him the product code and pointing out the correct item on their stock list. At this point, I happened to see on the screen that their cost for that product is $105 (profit margin 33%). Miro went and spoked to the warehouse staff. He came back with the product and advised that $140 was the wrong price and the best he could do was $198. I advised him that he cannot advertise a false price online, confirm that price over the phone, then demand more money in person. I said that I could go online right now and get it for $140. At that point, in front of me, he changed their internal systems so that the product now cost over $200 on their website. He said that they had a business to run; I told him it was not a business, but a shoddy operation that scams customers. I would have some sympathy if they had incorrectly priced it below cost, but the fact is they weren't happy with the profit margin and changed it on the spot despite confirming the original price to me three times (once on their website, once on the phone, once in person when checking their database). Terrible terrible business ethics, will never do business with them again. To make it worse, I could hear him talking to the warehouse staff and telling them "he has a screenshot of the website price". Horrible.
