Thinking…read morethat MY interests were first and foremost since the staff has been friendly and helpful after a bad experience with my first encounter in 2015. My initial deductions in 2015 resulted in an exceptionally low tax return which was re-evaluated by another employee and the results were more realistic. I expected no real surprises for my 2016 taxes based on my confidence and trust in US Tax Solutions. Unfortunately, I asked for a tax extension for 2016 in anticipation of upcoming medical expenses that would involve out-of-pocket expenses. I was confident when Wanda agreed to file an extension on my behalf, and I was relieved not to have to deal with anything tax related. Unfortunately, she forgot to mention that since I might OWE taxes for 2016, that I needed to set aside money to hopefully cover an estimation of those costs which might cover some of my 2016 taxes as she had done in 2015. I had the good advice in 2015 from this company to contribute $2,000 toward a possible tax penalty. Because there was no conversation to make me think that I would owe taxes, I figured that I would not owe anything, and frankly, I did not recall much of 2015 with upcoming personal issues on my mind, so an extension was filed with no back up cash!!!!! Needless to say, my demeanor completely changed when I was informed that my 2016 taxes EXCLUDING penalties and taxes were over $3,000. This is money that I had never anticipated paying or having available for the IRS.This of course was in lieu of their charges for filing my taxes! Needless to say, I couldn't be more disappointed with the lack of empathy for a customer not to mention customer service follow-up. It turns out that Wanda did not prepare my taxes after all. In late 2024, I requested a small task -- a file extension -- which I estimated would take 30 minutes. I asked Trip for a breakdown of the time and charges after receiving an unexpected invoice for $650+. I never received a clear response, despite following up. Months later, he sent a revised invoice for $350 -- again, without my agreement -- and eventually escalated the matter to debt collection charging me $842. To be clear: I made multiple attempts to resolve the dispute directly, including offering to pay for the 30 minutes of work I requested. My messages went unanswered for long stretches, and I was given no explanation for the charges beyond vague references to time spent. Being sent to collections over a disputed charge -- without any willingness to engage -- is not something I take lightly. I've worked with many collaborators over the years and never encountered anything like this. I share this to help others make an informed decision. Work with Trip only if you're comfortable with a lack of communication and the risk of escalation over relatively minor disputes.

Oftentimes, you leave their office wondering if their isn't a better resource and why you pay them. HHM is a breathe of fresh air. Yes, you'll pay a premium rate. But good advice/service comes with a price. If you're looking to get a simple personal tax return done, you can probably pay a small fee elsewhere. But if you are a business owner, have ownership in multiple entities, etc., you really need an expert in your corner (there are too many areas that a lot of CPAs overlook or simply know nothing about). With various partners in the firm, each brings a different area of expertise. I've only dealt with Kyle Christensen to this point. He's very professional, personable (yes, a personable CPA) and will certainly point you to another partner if his expertise doesn't match your needs. I recommend Kyle (and HHM) as often as possible. (Be sure to tell him you read Byron's Yelp review, if this was a factor in calling him).
