My gran was in ward 2b of Crosshouse hospital with a broken hip. Although the hip was healing fine gran had other complications which they seemed ill-equipped to deal with. We found the staff to be uncaring, unprofessional, uninterested and downright unsympathetic to my grans needs. If you asked for help with something they were too busy, but they seemed to have time to congregate and talk about what they were doing at the weekend. My gran was very poorly and did not receive the care she deserved, she has since sadly died. I had a kind of rosy picture of what nursing was like but the nurses in that ward seemed just to be pen pushers, too busy with paperwork and not enough time looking after the sick. I found the staff very obnoxious, the nurses and the auxiliaries, with one nurse in particular called Kathryn who seemed full of her own importance and would give incorrect information on the phone saying things like my gran had a good night, is fine this morning etc. but when my mum went in she found that gran had had the opposite kind of night. It is just so unacceptable that relatives are told this rubbish and totally unacceptable to treat patients in this way. I am so sad at my gran's treatment in ward 2b. it has been a terrible time for our family that my grans last days were so awful for her.

Ayr Hospital A& E can be very busy and sometimes the staff can be a little 'occupied'. Doctors are very good. Paramedics are exceptional. Very over run now in wards with beds being scarce. There is a cafe on entrance and shop which are run by the WRVS and are value for money but if you are staying in on the first floor for staff and patients that is better for food value and taste, where hot meals are served.

We arrived at the accident and emercency department during the night with my father and i was impressed by how quickly we were seen and how upbeat the staff were. The service he received that night was outstanding and has been everytime i have been there. Also due to his illness he was kept on a ward for a few days and the care he received there was also outstanding. Also at the hospital they have a small shop and snack bar which is completly run by volunteers. The prices are great especially for the snack bar and everyone is so nice and helpful and they are doing it without getting paid

I think over the years we have visited almost every ward in this place…read more The hospital gets a bad reputation locally, but at the same time when there was talk that it was to shut, the local community rallied round to save it, so it can't be all bad. Most of our recent visits have been to Accident and Emergency (A&E) and I have to say it's a lot better than I remember it years ago. Sometime it's not been the cleanest and sometimes the staff don't do things in the order you'd expect, but after a 12 hour shift I think I'd be the same. The staff in the Intensive care (ICU) have a very difficult job and are really sympathetic to the families, giving them loads of time and space at a time that is truly difficult and harrowing. No matter where you are in the hospital there are loads of hand sanitiser to try and minimise the risk of infection and reminders everywhere so you don't forget that it's important to avoid patients catching unwanted infections. If you've dealing with issues over multiple wards, you'll find that the doctors tend to specialise and don't appear to be able to deal with issues out with their own speciality/department, which can be very frustrating as it should be simple to get some cross departmental cooperation and patient care. The car parking is difficult during the traditional visiting hours, often spilling out onto the neighbouring streets. Some wards have, in recent years, tried to move away from these traditional hours, so you may be in luck and be able to attend loved ones at hours that are more suitable for you, your family, the person your visiting and all with easier parking. There are lifts within the central corridor of the hospital at both the front and the back of the hospital, which will take you to the wards you're visiting, with loads of signs to help you get where you need to go without too much need to navigate the maze of corridors. Occasionally there are periods that the hospital is having ongoing maintenance, but these are usually highlighted and with new additions, such as the Maggie's Centre and the New Beatson, the Hospital is providing local services that the community need on their doorstep. There is a RVS (WRVS) tea room / snack area on the ground floor as well as a small WH Smiths which are open for limited hours during the day. If you are spending time there there is also a canteen on the basement of the building, but as It's some time since I've visited there I'll leave that to a later review or maybe someone else can review it. For those with disabilities there are disabled parking in the car park at the front door, but these fill fast so I'd advise to try to arrive early and grab something at the tea room or the shop before your visit. For those using public transport, there appears to be fairly regular bus services running and there is a bus stop across from the front of the hospital. The local train station (Coatdyke) is a short(wish) walk from the back of the hospital. Overall, the place could be better, but it is improving all the time and with staff working long hours and with NHS budgets the way they are, I'm glad it's still here as it's a vital life line for anyone who needs it.

Staff were all very pleasant and were always loads of nurses milling around if you needed anything. Only major issue was it took him around 7 hours to get released after they advised him that he could go home as needed to wait for a prescription coming from Pharmacy. It is depressing having to sit around in hospital for 7 hours when you know that you are going home and should try and sort this out as obviously too long a delay

hurt my foot on boxing day.[ think i broke my big toe ] i waited till this morning to go to…read moreinverclyde royal because of the hols. plus my toe was getting sorer and swelling up and bruising,anyway got to hospital at 6.00am the place was empty. a doctor looked at my foot at 7.15am said i had to go for x ray. told me to follow the signs and walk there. the lady doctor certainly had no morale and no time for me. i felt i had just woke her up. so with no porters to take me to xray i hobbled there myself, thats the furthest i walked sins i hurt my foot. when i got there the shutters were closed and no one about. looked about for a while but only saw a cleaner washing the floor. i just gave up and went home. they should just close inverclyde royal, anybody who is employed there is not happy working there and that is past on to the patents

Parking beside these smaller buildings can be a problem as there isn't much space. The main hospital building is modern and swish with a reasonably trendy but not very well stocked coffee bar on the bottom floor. Hairmyres Train station, which is about a five minute walk from the main building, serves trains to Glasgow every half hour.

The staff here do an amazing job and are warm, friendly and well informed. The higher up the ladder you go the more ignorance you encounter but that seems to always be the way. Waiting times are short, the quality of care is great and they are moving towards a more holistic approach to treatment these days. There are no words of praise high enough for the members of the team at Cresswell Maternity department. The wards are immaculate and their assistance invaluable. Extra parking is being added to ease the current parking problems. In the meantime Out Patients can use the dental car park - just collect a token from the desk as you'll need one to exit.

This time, I was sent to Victoria Hospital. It was fairly easy to get to, with both train and bus stops near by. I took the bus to get here and it was an easy hop off and back on kind of stop right near the hospital. Walking up, I'm not sure if it was the day or what, but it's very peaceful in the area, I even mentioned it to my guy when walking up. There is a nice little sculpture garden which just adds to the niceness of the place. The building is quite new (not sure how new) but some of the hospitals I've been in around here are surely much older than this one. The entrance is quite open and bright and there is a wee cafe just to the left where patients and visitors alike can enjoy a cuppa. There are signs posted everywhere, so it's quite easy to find where you're going, even though I did get lost coming out, but I was eventually guided to where I needed to go. The staff are friendly and I was in and out with not too much of a wait. I'm always early anyway, so I expect to wait a tiny bit either way. I'm not a huge fan of hospitals (who is anyway), but this one is quite nice.

Only waited about 15 minutes and was taken back for the procedure. The nurse practitioner and her staff were great. I opted for the sedation because I'm kind of whimpy. Easy procedure. Felt well cared for and looked after. Only downside is parking is very tight and the underground car park is hard to navigate. Otherwise A+ service.
