The out patient clinics are better than some of the wards. There are very good staff, but also staff that do not do their jobs properly. Ayr Hospital A& E can be very busy and sometimes the staff can be a little 'occupied'. Doctors are very good. Paramedics are exceptional. Very over run now in wards with beds being scarce. There is a cafe on entrance and shop which are run by the WRVS and are value for money but if you are staying in on the first floor for staff and patients that is better for food value and taste, where hot meals are served. read more

I Recetly attended this hospital with my father who was very ill at the time and i was very impressed at the time. We arrived at the accident and emercency department during the night with my father and i was impressed by how quickly we were seen and how upbeat the staff were. The service he received that night was outstanding and has been everytime i have been there. Also due to his illness he was kept on a ward for a few days and the care he received there was also outstanding. Also at the hospital they have a small shop and snack bar which is completly run by volunteers. The prices are great especially for the snack bar and everyone is so nice and helpful and they are doing it without getting paid read more

This is a good hospital and patient care is excellent. My husband's scan got delayed but two phone calls to complaints sorted this out. Otherwise nursing and doctor was great. Mr Muir - the surgeon was particularly outstanding. Place is clean and well run. A and E also provide a good service. read more

I had the misfortune to go through an MRI scan in May 2017 . I was not properly assessed by the radiology pre questions by the individual who takes the question sheet information , due to a MRI sub contractor stating they would not do the test as I had a minor operation for an abscess. After having to contact the department in the same area of the hospital myself I confirmed the date from that point I was rushed through by the Hospitals external MRI mobile unit and they failed to ask or check if I had a metal plate in my mouth. All they seem to be interested in was that they were too busy to do the hip and back and they were finishing for the day. I was 20 min early for my appointment and held up in the hospital by the contractor in the MRI mobile unit. Coming out of the scan It was obvious suffering with serious head, eye, ear and neck pain. The contractor was advised of my ill health and they did not bother about my well being. I then was taken back to the A&E by my wife that night to find the doctors did not now how to deal with it, Just take pain killers, 52 days have passed and my pain has never reduced , cant do any daily tasks. The hospital said I need to go back to my DOCTOR for a referral. My own doctors don't know how to deal with this. They would mot try to help nor call a neurologist to help. In real terms I had to go back to my doctor for errors created in the hospital , surely not I thought !! Having met senior management I though they might help . No to that thought, they just said that they agree procedure were not followed and they would retrain and my complaint was then closed by the complaints section. Simply poor overall from the overall experience. According to several sources and the MRI should not have been carried out with the mouth plate in my mouth and as it was so close to my eyes that has caused the head pain and eyes. The plate and question relating to removal of the plate or other items is the responsibility of the MRI radiologist before continuing . I have had a MRI in March and all precautions were taken and I had no ill health after words. i I have suffered from a bad hip for two years and managed to live a reasonable normal life and just get on with it. I called 111 as advised by the senior management who are based at Crosshouse hospital which I did as the pain was /is terrible. The doctor at 111 did not know what to suggest and stated Oh well must get back to other patients!!! b the issue has stopped me doing any task . the story and details are too long to continue in detail. My summary is that the were negligent in the MRI mobile unit. The letter confirms that area need improvements but no comment about my health. As for the Director of Nursing? that person who signed of the letter and closed my concern, washed off the issue stating "sorry to hear about my concern" , if I am unhappy take it to the Scottish ombudsman which is currently ongoing. I also will add that the overall "don't want to know from senior level management" is very poor indeed. The complaints section of the trust have the same attitude defensive and upset that I requested not to close my complaint off. If I were to give marks for their efforts it would be a minus mark to the Director (nursing) and her investigating team . The only section worthy of any credit are the Compliance Section Manager at Crosshouse she is extremely helpful towards a patients needs and go all out to help you. The other senior member of staff at Crosshouse is in Physiotherapy, she was also is very diligent in her help with the hip problem I have. each of these individuals would get 5 stars in my book And equally the referral team and MSK appointment are very helpful. My complaint is due to a non responsive senior management / director level is now moving into a formal external investigation. Really a poor performance in aftercare at Ayr Hospital with the same thought towards the investigating team at Crosshouse Hospital. read more

Needs a good clean. Smelly - even the floor was dirty in A&E cubicles. Germs? read more
