From the taco menu, the Tres con Todo were three "tuna al pastor" tacos made of cubes of tuna with pineapple, sprouts, radish, and creamy avocado on two fried tacos--creative, but nothing too outstanding flavorwise. We continued with the Pal'Mito salad, made of hearts of palm, sundried tomatoes, avocado, spinach, bacon, and seared tuna. The Churrasco de Salmon was a perfectly tender salmon filet topped with a cream sauce and served with plantain puree and grilled corn on the cob. Finally, the Pesca del Dia was a fillet of snapper topped with mussels in pesto sauce and served over plantain puree--super tasty, though the pesto definitely overwhelmed any other flavors in this dish. The prices looked a little steep, but I was hungry and ready just wanted some soup, which was on the appetizer menu. Despite the heat, I love soup and find that soup in Mexico has never let me down. I went in and was seated immediately with a smile. I only brought a little cash with me, because even though this area feels very safe, I was a solo lady with intermediate Spanish, at best, at night, in a new place. This place did not take credit, much like almost every other place in Puerto Vallarta. I asked if they could make the tortilla soup with chicken, since I wanted to get at least a little protein, and the waiter happily obliged. You guys. Holy shit. I come to Mexico at least three times a year, trying out different cities. This might have been the best meal I've had in all of those trips. It was easily the best tortilla soup of my life. The chunks of avocado were so soft and had absorbed the flavor of the soup. They melted like butter in my mouth. THEN there was the bread! I don't even know what it was. Sort of like Hawaiian rolls, but toasted. Freaking awesome. If I wasn't so full from the soup, I would have stuffed all three giant pieces in my face. I could only do one. They asked how it was and I announced that this was the most delicious soup of my life. The two other tables had couples dining who enthusiastically agreed that the food here is next level. One couple from the Netherlands said they come here three times a year. From the Netherlands. To eat here, specifically. Yeah, I could see that. Altogether, my bill was 155 pesos, just under $9 USD. Hell yeah. They even gave me chocolate covered raisins with my bill.

After ordering drinks, it took another 15 minutes to get them. The food also took painfully long. Everything we ordered was ok, but didn't have the freshness we expected. We had to flag down the server to get more drinks, which again took a long time. The server did seem very flustered, as some things were out of his control. They just really need some better training there. It was also located next to a bar that was playing extremely loud music, which really hurt the ambience. While I will happily return to their other locations, I will not be returning here.

Finally, someone took pity on us and turned on a light and provided a small touch lamp for the table. We were then promptly asked for our drinks, and received the two topo chicos about 10 minutes later. We then decided to put in some appetizers - the garlic bread and the oyster's Rockefeller. When the oysters finally came out, 15 minutes later, they were so cold that the cheese was no longer melted, but rather clumpy and the oysters raw. We had no choice but to send it back to the kitchen to be cooked. After a short while, the oysters came back. Around this time, a family of 5 or 6 sat down at a table near us, and began waiting for someone to take their order as well. Meanwhile, we sat at the table for 35 minutes waiting for someone to take our order for entrees. The table of drunk people beside us were also experiencing issues, and ended up demanding a 15% off their bill because of the service issues they were having at this time. While all of that was going on, we were still waiting for someone to take our order. Finally, the waiter, finally realizing we were there, came over and took our orders - we were clearly not happy about the wait, but decided to stick it out, because it was getting late, and we were hungry. 20 more minutes go by, and we are wondering where the two dishes we ordered (the fried fish and the sea bass) were. AT THIS TIME, the family of 5 or 6 that came in, not only ordered, BUT GOT ALL THEIR FOOD BEFORE US, including steaks. We would probably still be waiting if I didn't make eye contact with the manager (who checked in the with the family, and was leaving to go away), and he finally came over to check-in. We were now REALLY upset, because it took another 15 minutes to get the food. The sea bass came out first, and then the fried fish. Once we took a bite of the sea bass and the mashed potatoes on that dish, we realized that dish WAS COLD too and immediately had to send it back to the kitchen. They microwaved and brought it back to the table and we had no choice but to finish it. At this point I was VISIBLY upset, so they kept trying to make it up to us by bringing me a whole lot of rice, beans, and sauces. I wanted none of that, and asked for a to-go container for the fried fish, and the check. They tried to offer me a drink on the house, which we turned down, and eventually brought out the driest flan I have ever seen, which we took a bite and left on the table. The hurtful part of the experience is that there was no offer of a discount for the horrible experience, like the other table had received. So we paid our bill and left. Everyone kept trying to shake our hand on the way out - but the damage was already done. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT - on top of it all, the only thing that was tasty about the whole meal, was the fried fish - what a waste of $132 USD.
