I just ate and this delicious restaurant the other night. After I was seated I engaged in a conversation with a lovely Canadian couple that highly recommended a seafood dish. They visit often and stated that it was one of their favorites. I had the Fruit of the Sea. It was absolutely delicious and served in a light white sauce with garlic bread. I visited somewhat early so it wasn't very busy. I'm adding it to my new PV favorites list. It's a very small place with interesting art work and a warm ambiance. My partner wasn't feeling well, and it had been almost 9 hours since we had breakfast...I needed food. The concierge at my hotel suggested that, for a quick bite, I walk to a restaurant that he marked on my map. It was only three minutes away. That restaurant was shuttered and closed, despite it being only 8pm on a Saturday. So I went next door and found Chenando's. The prices looked a little steep, but I was hungry and ready just wanted some soup, which was on the appetizer menu. Despite the heat, I love soup and find that soup in Mexico has never let me down. I went in and was seated immediately with a smile. I only brought a little cash with me, because even though this area feels very safe, I was a solo lady with intermediate Spanish, at best, at night, in a new place. This place did not take credit, much like almost every other place in Puerto Vallarta. I asked if they could make the tortilla soup with chicken, since I wanted to get at least a little protein, and the waiter happily obliged. You guys. Holy shit. I come to Mexico at least three times a year, trying out different cities. This might have been the best meal I've had in all of those trips. It was easily the best tortilla soup of my life. The chunks of avocado were so soft and had absorbed the flavor of the soup. They melted like butter in my mouth. THEN there was the bread! I don't even know what it was. Sort of like Hawaiian rolls, but toasted. Freaking awesome. If I wasn't so full from the soup, I would have stuffed all three giant pieces in my face. I could only do one. They asked how it was and I announced that this was the most delicious soup of my life. The two other tables had couples dining who enthusiastically agreed that the food here is next level. One couple from the Netherlands said they come here three times a year. From the Netherlands. To eat here, specifically. Yeah, I could see that. Altogether, my bill was 155 pesos, just under $9 USD. Chenando's has it all... Location, Ambiance, Excellent Food and Service. Everything we have tried there is excellent. The owner/chef is also an artist. His paintings are on the walls and they're lovely. Four of us went for dinner there. I ordered Sea Bass in a white wine sauce.... The fish had a delicate flavor, and was scrumptious. My friend orders the same and she raved about hers. My husband and my friend's husband both ordered the chicken. We were all so happy with our choices, the company, and Chenando's. We had an amazing dinner at Chenandos last night... just like we do every time we go there! It is a family run business and they take great pride in their work. The father is the chef and he is so talented. I am vegan, so he made me pasta with vegetables. My husband had the Shrimp pasta in Alfredo sauce. Everything was perfectly flavored. I have been looking forward to trying this place for over a week, we met someone who has been coming here for several years and told us that this is her favorite place, hands down. We brought some friends with us and sampled several of the dishes. The service was top notch, the table was a little tight for 4 however we were able to manage. They only accept cash, so be forewarned. With one sangria, one ice tea, one flan and four entrees it was 1,400 MXD (~$70) - with service, a very reasonable price for the quality and service. I had the four pepper steak. I asked and was served it medium. It was tender, very tasty. The cream pepper sauce was terrific. The sides (asparagus, carrots, twice baked potato) were prepared well, the potato was pretty bland however with the sauce they were pretty good. The wife had the special catch of the day, really liked the sauce, the prawns and the fish. She is not a fan of strong tasting fish and she thought the red snapper that was on offer tonight was quite good. She also had sangria - and I agree with her that it was really tasty. When I return, I'll go for that vs. the ice Tea. I was warned that it has a strong lime influence - I wasn't very impressed. One of our friends had the "standard" fish fillet - so good - very tasty, tender, great flavor with the wine sauce. Neither of the "fish people" felt their fish was at all dry - moist and tender. Our other friend had the octopus. It also came with an excellent sauce, he liked the taste and it was chopped up to the point that it wasn't as obvious as other entree's I've seen featuring octopus. It wasn't tough as he expected. He would recommend it to others. The garlic bread for the table was great. While we were all pretty full by the end of our meal, we couldn't resist ordering one flan with four spoons. I'm glad we didn't pass that up - it was amazing - beyond what you would expect, it was glazed with two liquors, chopped nuts and served with a sliced strawberry. Very nice. read more

Absolutely wonderful meal. Started off with guacamole and chips for an appetizer- I love good guacamole and this was the best I have ever eaten.., absolutely a 10. Had margaritas on the rocks watched the bartender press the limes to make it! Really tart authentic margaritas! We both enjoyed two. We went to Chenandos for our 34th Wedding Anniversary. To start, we had the Guacamole and Chips. We are from Texas and that guac was hands down the BEST we've ever had! Every time I visit Puerto Vallarta, I always come back here for the amazing food... Locally sourced, really fresh amazing ingredients. So, I know most people talk about all of the other incredible dishes here, but I am totally addicted to the chili de arbol salsa. Yes, it is really hot, but there is some flavor in this amazing concoction that seriously taps into the dopamine receptors of my brain that keeps me dipping in over and over. Ok back to the meals. My friends had the beef steak, and the mahi-mahi Pescado Del Dia respectively-- I ordered the seafood combo. Every single one of our dishes was amazingly well prepared, unique, sauces to die for. We just got back to our Airbnb in the Romantic District from a Wonderful Dinner at Chenan ! We started with the Cucumber salad and Tortilla Soup. Salad veg were all ripe , but firm and perfectly assembled. The dressing ( house blue ) was creamy , lovely and on the side . The soup had crispy tortilla strip , cheddar cheese, and Avocados covered in a silky broth that fume'd of spices that were warm but not too heavy. A dollop of creama finished it well I'm a foodie so I usually order quite a few dishes to get a knowledge of the chef behind the menu. Tonight was no different .. we had the Filet ( medium- pink) with the mushroom-bacon sauce (very well prepared and a huge portion) , the Jumbo Shrimp ( also perfectly cooked and full of flavor ) , and the Arrachera Steak ( so soft it melted in your mouth -medium but lots of pink - perfection) and it was my wife's favorite. The Vegi's and starches were all well prepared , and the Service was Top Notch. The 3 salsa/hot sauces set out are all homemade , and spicy ! Love them. We had 3 glasses of wine between us , and didn't have room for their homemade deserts. The Impression this meal gave deserves a repeat visit ! Off the beat and path , but busy , and reservations are almost a must. We made them at 6:30 , and walked into a 3/4 full restaurant that was flipping tables smoothly. Decided to try this place while cruising through options on Yelp and in no way was I disappointed. I was a little concerned at first since it is off the beaten path of PV, but walking into the restaurant I immediately felt welcomed. Elegant, clean, and air conditioned. Wait staff was attentive and helpful. The food was absolutely to die for. I got the filet and it basically melted in my mouth. The gals I dined with had different entrees, but were equally as impressed. The chef personally came to our table to make sure we were enjoying dinner. Prices are more than reasonable for the quality meal our party of seven enjoyed. This is a family run eatery/restaurant/grill and all are very nice and attentive. I am not sure what to call it as we all felt at home - in their home. Bring cash. Have the address for your cab driver as we spread the word have found out the name is still somewhat unknown. Found Chenan2 on trip advisor and I was very glad I did. It was the best food our whole trip. I was honestly staying away from meat on our trip because I'm to cautious. The good reviews this place had helped me get over it. I am very glad I decided to try it. Four of us ate family style so we could try a variety. Nothing was left to waste. Two appetizers, four main dishes, and two desserts withs drinks was under 80$ US. The restaurant itself was comfortable and clean. Not to fancy, yet decorated with some wonderful art. We found this place walking to and from our Airbnb in old town. Gave it a shot after we threw money away going to the "must go to" restaurant La Palapa and were super disappointed. Go here instead! Take a nice walk away from the crowds, you've been at the beach all day, explore the heart of this town! The food and service were both amazing! We split the cheese gratin...so good! I had the pepper steak, yum! My daughter had the coconut shrimp, she devoured it. Of course we had to have flan for dessert. It did not disappoint! This tiny restaurant is truly a hidden gem. It's tucked away in an unassuming neighborhood in the old town area. We found it by googling steak houses in Puerto Vallarta. We had in mind to go to Sonora Prime, but opted instead to try this place because of the great reviews. We were certainly not disappointed. Actually we were overjoyed to find such a quality restaurant that we never knew existed after coming here for over 35 years. The atmosphere is charming, clean, and inviting. We ordered the filet mignon platter, and the jumbo shrimp platter. The meat was expertly cooked to perfection, and simply melted in your mouth. The jumbo shrimp was absolutely amazing. The seasoning of both dishes was superb, truly a gourmet delight. We had also ordered a bowl of tortilla soup to share because we didn't want to fill up before the main entrée. It too was amazing. This was by far the best meal we have ever eaten in all of the years that we have visited Puerto Vallarta. Do yourself a favor and don't miss it! I should also mention that the prices here are more than fair for the quality of the food. We would have paid at least as much, probably way more at home for a meal of this calibre. Have been coming to Puerto Vallarta off and on for the last 19 years and love to go to our favorite restaurants. Tonight I wanted something different. Did a search and found Chenan2. The reviews were favorable and the menu items sounded delicious. So we went. First of all, the inside of the restaurant was clean, classy, and comfortable. Jazz-like music played in the background. There were about 12 tables that can accommodate small and larger parties. They had a nice simple wine list. For starters, my son had the tortilla soup which he inhaled. My husband and I shared the mixed garden salad which tasted so fresh and had a nice presentation. My son had the seafood pasta which was not lacking in variety of seafood. Sauce was light and tasty. My husband had the octopus which was extremely tender and flavorful. I ordered the pepper steak which was cooked the way I liked it. All dishes were generous. We left satisfied. The seafood pasta dish could have used a few more strands of pasta to go with the remaining shrimp and mussels. The server was willing to bring more pasta, but my son realized he was already so full! We finished the meal with a Mexican coffee. The proprietor, Chenando, was very hospitable as well as the servers. We highly recommend and look forward to visiting again! read more

Recommend by friends around the pool at our hotel, this was a great find. The "melted cheese" appetizer was amazing -- mushrooms, onions, spinach, asparagus, covered by melted cheese, spooned onto soft tacos -- so yummy. This is one of our favorite restaurants; it was completely redone over the summer. We eat here at least once every ten days or so. We love bringing friends for the first time. They always are thrilled with the food. Fernando is an exceptional cook; I always have trouble choosing what to order as everything I have ever eaten here is first class. Two days ago I had the jumbo shrimp. They were perfectly cooked!! I had to have help from my husband to finish them. The sons, Christian and Fernando 2, are amazing waiters; they recall everyone's name and do everything they can to make sure your experience is great. Their English is perfect, so it makes it easy for those of us who do not speak great Spanish. The restaurant is immaculate. The art, done by Fernando, the owner, is beautiful. He is talented not only in cooking but is an artist, too. My family is coming to town in Feb. This is our first stop with them. My sister went with us last year; and she still talks about the meal and family. read more
