Amazing photo op. The triangle at the top of the Puerto Rican flag can be blue sky or blue ocean, your choice!

MAKING WAVES This oceanside restaurant in Arecibo offers gorgeous views and delicious food. On the way from San Juan to Boquerón for New Years' 2024, our extended family (including my brother-in-law's-girlfriend's-daughter's-boyfriend) needed a place to stop and eat. We got lunch at Arrecife 681 on the northern coast of Puerto Rico. It took a while to place food and drink orders, our group separated along a single bench facing the sea. Service seemed slow, as if they were light on staff. Restrooms were clean, they have one each for men/women. The coconut mojito ($8) was a terrific value, especially considering its strength. I was still in the throes of a covid-like illness that wiped out my sense of taste & smell, so I had to ask my wife if it was as boozy as I thought it was (she took a sip and confirmed that it was in fact, pretty heavy on the rum). Other flavors of mojito included traditional (lime), parcha (passion fruit), acerola (cherry), tamarind, fresa (strawberry), and toronja rosada (grapefruit). Grapefruit always struck me as a nasty, bitter, barely-a-fruit fruit, but maybe it works in a mixed drink. The carne frita ($15) were small chunks of pork with plantain chips, pickled red onion and dipping sauce. The montaditos (4 for $11) were spicy crab mix and unagi sauce on top of crispy tostones. Both of these small plates were well-received by everyone. Our group enjoyed the creamy fish tacos (2 for $13) and signature fish tacos (2 for $11) which were supposed to come with sliced avocado. When asked why they didn't, our server uttered words I never thought I'd hear in Puerto Rico: "we're out of avocados". GASP! Apparently, they hosted a large group the evening prior and ran out of numerous things, including the aforementioned 'aguacate', pastelillos, and several beers. It'd be fine if 1-2 things weren't available, however they rattled off a list of stuff that sounded like half the menu! We made it work, though. Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 4.5 As far as the vibes go, Arrecife 681's got it in spades. The spectacular sightlines of the coast were some of best we saw all vacation. They've got a wooden board painted like the Puerto Rican flag, which accompanied by crashing waves mere feet away, makes for a great photo opportunity. Take one for the 'gram! * TL;DR * Arrecife 681 is a very cool place, unfortunately we had to pick from a limited menu. I wish we could've enjoyed a better selection of bites & bevs, but alas. Supply chain issues aside, this was an excellent stop on our trip around the island. I'd happily come back for those fish tacos (WITH avocado this time) and a flavored mojito. I'd recommend Arrecife 681 for its unparalleled views of the Atlantic and tasty small plates.

Beach mode activado: Signature fish tacos, shrimp mofongo, y una cervecita para un día increíble. Salty air, ocean view and reggaeton sets the mood. Service is great!

Great place to enjoy a great view while sipping on some cocktails and enjoying fantastic food. The service was excellent and parking is ample and free. Their octopus salad and the arroz manposteao are sooo good. Definitely a most try place if you're in the area.

Absolutely amazing views! The food was delicious and the service was excellent! Would come back in a heartbeat!!

On our way back to San Juan we had our last restaurant meal on the island here and it did not disappoint. Not only do you get amazing views of the ocean, but the food was great. For appetizers, we got two shrimp pastelillos with the garlic sauce. They were very hot and tasty. For our meals, my husband ordered the Pechuga queso y tocineta with a side of rice. I ordered the signature fish tacos and a piña colada. The fish tacos were super crisp and full of flavor. I would personally pass on the piña colada and try their sunset mojito if I am ever in the area again. Be aware that if you do sit on the tables closest to the water, it can get very windy and light plates will most likely flip and fly away. It is a very romantic setting for couples, and I'd imagine during sunset it looks even better. At the time we went there was no music but with the P fKn R neon sign they have and the bar I'm assuming they might have more of a club/bar ambiance during weekends or later. Our server was very attentive and came to check on us multiple times. The service was fairly quick - keep in mind most restaurants in the island do take their time making their food. Parking is located across the restaurant.

    Mofongo con carne frita

Awesome food. Mofongo was great! It was moist and the carne frita was on point - not dry. Great service and view.

This was my wife and I's first meals while in Puerto Rico and I can say it'll probably be one of the best we will have. We were greeted promptly at the host stand upon arrival, and had a lot of different tables to choose from (surprised they weren't a lot busier). The waiter took our order promptly, and everything came out super quick. They even offered us bug spray to keep the mosquitos away while sitting. Being right next to the ocean was great as well. Now to the food and drinks. I got the sunset mojito and carne frita. The mojito wasn't my thing, but my wife got one and liked it (so I think I'm just not a mojito guy). The carne frita was amazing. It was super simple, but was packed with flavor. The meat was perfectly fried, and the onions added a nice touch. I would have liked some sort of dressing/liquid/oil on the lettuce (unless that's how it normally comes?). The rice was packed with cilantro and bacon which made it full of flavor. If I had more time in this area, I would definitely return. If you haven't had the chance to come here, you definitely should!

Best meal we had in PR! What a spectacular ocean front restaurant! The view is just outstanding, and honestly the food & drink was delicious too! I ended up having tacos everywhere I went in PR but the creamy fish tacos at Arrecife were by far my favorite! Perfectly fried grouper topped with spicy creamy shredded crab and some slaw. The crunchy plus sweet textures along with a hint of spice just blended perfectly. Nice & filling too! Why have I never had a fish taco with spicy crab on it before?!?! Fruity mojitos were fresh & tasty as well. Service was friendly & on point. The view was mesmerizing. After a day in the sun we couldnt have picked a better lunch spot! I'll never forget those tacos!

Very good pulpo salad! It was fresh and a very good portion. The only con was The taro chips were a little stale and tasted like they had been sitting. The Parcha mojito was so delicious. Very fresh and refreshing and not too strong. I will be back!

The view, the food, the service, the drinks, just everything was phenomenal. Bring bug spray though (thank me later)

Not the best seafood place in the area…read more We (a party of four) went there on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We were seated fairly quickly, in the inside part of the business as there were "no seats outside" - that wasn't the case. The server came promptly to take our order: @drinks - mojito, sangria, water and a soda. The sangria tasted like pouch sangria poured into a glass and the mojito had little to no rum. @Starters - marine sampler, which was greasy and overly cooked. @main dishes - paella marinera for 2, lobster tail, and stuffed mashed plantains with ceti (local fish). My overall impression of the main dishes wasn't great for the price we paid for the meal ($$$). The paella for two lacked flavor and the seafood wasn't properly cleaned (the shellfish had the poop vein); the lobster wasn't local and tasted weird; the stuffed plantains with ceti were very salty. For the latter we offered our feedback to the server and she just took the plate away, without offering any substitutions or following up. Enough to say that I'll not be coming here again. The price of the food goes beyond the quality and service. The only nice thing about the place its the view, which we got to see through a window.
