Went 1/6/26 for the buffet. The previous day i had a terrible experience at SITAR and i needed to know if knoxville offered good indian buffet options. At the suggestion of an indian dentist, AROMA is it. The lunch buffet is AMAZING. Everything is cooked fresh daily. The food has so much flavor. The naan was toasty and fluffy, the tikka masala was thick with so much flavor and the chicken breast pieces were tender, the saag was creamy great flavor, the tandoori chicken was fresh juicy great char, everything is FRESH FRESH FRESH! Seriously SITAR is garbage. AROMA is my new favorite buffet place. Anyone that recommends sitar over aroma doesnt have taste and shouldnt be trusted with food reviews. The service was good, polite guys always clearing plates and filling water. I dont care about service at buffets really. What stands out to me at restaurants and why we go is quality of food for value. This place has it. No corners are cut in making their food. Ill probably go again at the end of the week. read more

I came here at the recommendation of one of my work colleagues and am glad to have done so! Everything inside was clean and well kept. The staff were quick to help and efficient in all of the drink and food service. Overall the food was splendid - I particularly loved the curry chicken (so tender and packed with flavor). Went for buffet which was great. I forgot my wallet but had a gift card. The restaurant had recently changed their computer system and could not immediately read card. They were extremely gracious and insisted I have the buffet even though they would have to check the card later and I had no other way to pay that day. Clean, delicious and gracious. read more

A welcoming greeting and quickly seated. Menu options were good, though dishes I had wanted were not there. I did make a good choice with the Tikka Masala and the spice level was perfect (Medium +). Very familiar flavors for this Welshman who loves Indian food. But it was the rice pudding that brought back the memories of my mother's desert special. We ordered the Grilled Platter and the Chicken Chilli. I loved the shrimp on the Grilled Platter. I would get again just for that. My husband was a 1st timer and he did not like the Chicken Chilli. The afternoon buffet didn't quite meet the sniff test, instead I decided to go al la carte with street food. Oops! Mistake! Ordered Pani Puri & Mysore Masala Dosa One of the "cater to Americans" things I don't like, you don't get the authentic taste of street food. I believe there were 8 puris, nice and crisp, and the filling was enough for 4-5. Guys. Pani Puri is a finger dip in yummy, not a spoon fed disease. The potato filling left much to be desired and the "pani", the saving grace didn't really make my mouth water. Tip: combine the chopped onion with the potato The Mysore masala podi, and it's preparation to make it a true Mysore Masala missed the mark. Aroma kitchen was pretty good when i went. I stopped in around lunchtime on a Friday, and it wasn't super busy. I still waited 20-25 min for my takeout order though... I got malai kofta as my main dish with galic naan. I also got samosas and pani poori. Everything was pretty good! I got my malai kofta hot but it wasn't really spicy at all. I think I paid -$40 for everything which felt pretty expensive. The food here was good & the vibe/ambiance was nice, i just wish my order would've been ready a little sooner, especially considering how the restaurant wasn't busy at all. read more

Wonderful dining experience. We have friends who love Indian food and love to eat at this place. We went with them. We had to rely on them for their expertise. We are not real fans of Indian food but this place was an exception; the food was tasty, the server was attentive and explained everything we asked about the food, especially the heat index. All of our dishes were lovely. I really liked that all dishes are made in a way where they can be individual entrees or shared, so each of us were able to enjoy part of each other's foods. The dining room was set up very nicely and conducive to conversations at the tables and booths. There were quite a few people in the restaurant however, it was not noisy at all. The food was okay--nothing special, just your average buffet. But the real issue was the shady billing. Before going, I called and was told the buffet was $13 Monday-Friday and $14 on weekends. We went on a Wednesday. There were four of us, and we ordered a couple extra naan from the menu. No drinks other than water. When we got the bill, it came to $77. We were confused and asked to see the itemized check. The server refused and tried to rush us into paying. When we pushed, he said the buffet was $14 per person--again, this was a Wednesday. We insisted on seeing the actual breakdown, and only then did we find out he had added a $13 tip to the check himself. Without asking. On a buffet. Our real total was $64, but he snuck in a tip without saying a word. For a buffet where we served ourselves and got nothing beyond basic service. This is just dishonest. Wouldn't go back. Good food isn't enough when the business practices are this shady. read more

I have been a customer of Aroma's for years. I have always LOVED the food there. In the past it's been high quality and the service has been wonderful. I'm giving it two stars because unfortunately the last few times I've ordered it, the quality seems to be declining. The food is not near as flavorful and my last three orders have been full of chicken bones and bits. One time is a coincidence, but this last time; every bite was full of bones and chicken bits. It was such an unpleasant experience I won't be going back. It does break my heart because this has always been my go to Indian spot in Knoxville. My perspective may be a bit more glowing had we eaten in person and even tried the buffet people are raving about. Paneer Pikora-Honestly, one of the worst apps we've had in quite some time. Kind of an Indian cheese stick, but the breading and the cheese itself had no flavor or texture. It was a bummer. Samosa Chat-We order this whenever we get Indian food and this one had undercooked potato chunks and was more like a pile than crispy, separate samosas Lamb Biryani-The lamb was outstanding. Tender, flavorful, and the rice perfectly cooked. However, we wished there were more to enjoy, with only 8 small pieces of lamb in the entire container. Unfortunately, I bit into a hard pit of some kind (that I thought was meat) and it caused tooth pain the rest of the night. Butter Chicken-The sauce had a great depth and minor kick to it. The amount of chicken received was frustrating due to price of the dish. Didn't even look like half of a chicken breast in there. Garlic Naan-So good! I went here pretty late on a weeknight because I was hungry and it was open! I love Indian food, so I decided to check this place out since I was in the area. Inside is clean and the decor was simple and nice. I think I came in around 9:15 before they closed at 10. I was seated right away and barely got to look at the menu before I was asked twice if I was ready to order yet. I felt a little rushed, but I get wanting to get out for the night, so I just picked a vegetarian meal I haven't tried before. I got the Aloo Gobi dish (it said peas "or" cauliflower, but it was cauliflowe and potatoes in a sauce) with medium heat and garlic naan. The bread was good, of course. The main dish was pretty good, though there was not enough sauce, which is my favorite part. I was a little sad about that. read more

I really love this place!! Lots of options that I usually don't see at other Indian restaurants. They have Mumbai street food which was really fun to try. I also really loved how prominent and helpful the service was. The ambiance of the restaurant is great as well. As many vegans know, Indian food has lots of vegan and vegetarian options which is great for me as a vegan I had the Baingan Bhartha and it was delicious! Best Indian cuisine I've had in Knoxville. Nice decor and the staff is super friendly. The Bombay masala chai tea is a nice starter drink. Samosas are a tasty fried treat. The Chicken 65 appetizer is a bit spicy and packed with flavor. A must try! The best main courses are the butter chicken and the tandoori chicken. Both dishes are drastically different yet delicious. I have already reviewed this location, just a reminder as to how great the food is. This time my business partner ordered the egg bhurji medium spicy to go and it was excellent. The medium spicy did not make me sweat, so I am curious to how the spicy taste. I eat a ton of Indian food, both at restaurants and curries I've learned to make myself. I like it a little spicy and a lot savory. I was spending one night in town on my way across the country and ordered delivery from Aroma so I wouldn't have to leave my cats unattended in the hotel room. Honestly, it was just ok. I ordered butter chicken medium spicy, and I thought it was ok, not very spicy at all. It was strong in the tomato flavor and a very runny curry, ie not thick. I wouldn't say it had no flavor, but it didn't have the spice profile I'm used to either. It was kind of like a tomato soup with a little bit of your typical cumin/coriander but not a lot. I'd guess they probably just served it up from their buffet, since buffet curries usually seem like they're a little washed out compared to getting the same dish made to order. The naan and mango lassi were pretty standard, neither good nor bad. The prices were a bit high for the volume and quality, but that could be an Uber Eats markup so I'm not dinging for that specifically. Overall though to me, the food was fine but not standout in any way, which earns it 3 stars. read more

Due to COVID-19 precautions, the buffet was served to us and they gave generous portions. The buffet had a variety of dishes which I tried a little of each. They all had excellent flavor. I made sure to clean my plate of any sauce with the naan bread. They offered one dessert dish, but we decided to order Galub Jamun off the menu. Top of the class! I've eaten at the restaurant over ten teams and it is a treat each time. We come from out of town about two to three times a month and this place is my go to spot. Where to begin? First of all my Service, the minute you walk in the host treats you with hospitality and kindness. You drinks are always full. Next the food, the buffet style selection has everything want including fresh Naan bread (they ran out but it to worry the host came out with hot bread and delivered to each table). They have bindi masala chicken masala, Chuck curry, bhindi masala, chicken tikka masala, aloo Gobi, and the vegatable selection consist of onion chutney mint chutney salad (tomato red onion cucumber parsley). The raita sauce was very succulent. I'm not a sweets guy, but the mango fruit pudding was tasty. All of it so so delicious. My only fault I have with them is I'm trying to cut back on calories and I fail miserably when I come here. It's very close to the I 40 and the cancer treatment hospital so it's not different to find.
