The thing about this restaurant is that they do an all you can eat, not quite buffet but close. Expect to pay about £14 per person on a normal week day, £11 for kids. So once you are seated you order from the menu and they bring your food to the table. Once you are finished, they bring you the menu again and you can order again. You can continue to do this for up to two hours.
Generally, I liked the idea... granted I would prefer a more traditional buffet so I could pick and choose how much of each item wanted but that's not really a big deal.
We ordered five different items from the menu. For the heck of it we ordered their capital spare ribs as an appetizer. It was the best thing we ordered this evening which, sadly, isn't saying much. We then ordered the Szechaun Beef and the Kung Po Chicken. The chicken tasted as if it had been precooked, perhaps even frozen and reheated and simply tossed into the sauce. There was no flavor to the chicken at all, which was very disappointing. While I didn't really enjoy the sauce it didn't have any punch to it. It should have had some spice but it was sadly missing. The beef was also sub-par and tasted as if it had been pre-cooked and tossed into yet another uninspiring sauce.
For our second serving we ordered the Chicken in Black Bean Sauce and their Ginger Beef with Spring Onion. Once again the meat was tasteless and had no flavor of the sauce. The ginger was probably fresh as the flavor of the ginger even permeated the beef. The black bean sauce came on a sizzling skillet and wasn't too bad... unfortunately the chicken ruined the dish.
I will say that the service was very good and the wait staff wasted no time in taking our orders.
For two pints of Diet Coke, some tea made from actual leaves and an all you can eat dinner for two adults our total came to £33. I don't think I will be returning. read more
