They've recently reopened after financial difficulty and have simplified things so hopefully it will work out for them. The menu is limited but it's the only cafe in Pill so your choice is extremely limited anyway! Everything they sell is of an okay standard but nothing gets you really excited. They do always have a few nice cakes on display and the ingredients used in their sandwiches are normally fresh and of good quality. There is normally only one member of staff so service can be slow, but they are always friendly and you kind of make an exception as Pill desperately needs this cafe to stay open. I hope they continue to turn a profit as it definitely beats anything you can buy in the co-op!

The restaurant is tucked away a short distance off the rather bustling Park Street, and while this means it may not get as many clients as it would if it were on it, it also means that you can take a few steps off said streets and relax in relative peace and quiet. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back here. What I ended up eating was a cold, sad-looking, limp lamb kofte sitting in a bed of about three wilting salad leaves, and then some really bog-standard rice that would have been hotter and more enjoyable had I just cooked it at home, and some bean-based tomato thing that I can only describe as lukewarm red pulp. And, they made a big song and dance about the fact that we wanted to pay by cheque, despite the fact that they offered no credit card facility. We were made to feel as though we were being extremely cheeky and seriously inconveniencing them, which rather soured the whole experience, and irritated me because we were paying good money in their restaurant, and a cheque is still money, thank you very much. All in all, very disappointing: cold, lame food that felt reheated (and not enough, at that. I mean, honestly, if you're going to reheat, you could at least zap it for a few more seconds in the microwave), served very ungraciously.

It's not in business to further the vanguard of epicurean excellence, it is there simply to serve a niche in the market, and provide the locals of this particular part of St Werburghs with somewhere pleasant to drink a coffee and grab a bite to eat. I used to go there quite a lot when I briefly lived in the area. I didn't have a washing machine and so I used to use the laundrette across the road. Despite being pleasant enough, I could not spend a second longer in the place than was needed to put my washing in the machines. There's just something about laundrettes that promotes an almost allergic reaction in me... but I don't mind the dentist or hospitals... all very peculiar! So the upshot used to be that I would head straight over to Biblos and buy myself a large latte, before sitting myself at the breakfast bar arrangement that was mounted in front of the window and then I would plug my computer in. Happy days! Apart from the café in Better Food there's nowhere else to grab a decent coffee in this area, unless you are willing to walk half a kilometre to the St Werburghs Farm caff.

But what really annoyed me is that, after ordering all food and drink downstairs, we waited a considerably long time for the food. The waitress was completely off on one and not on the ball at all. She delivered our food nearly 1 by 1 (there were 4 of us) and without cutlery?! This is basic stuff! Having worked in hospitality for 7 years it is so blatantly obvious people need cutlery to eat!! I was sooo hungry and wanted to start eating straight away, having waited a while, and couldn't which was so frustrating! Its a shame as the review is based on only one waitress representing the place but I'm afraid I was not impressed, having been ignored by her when signalling for cutlery! On the plus side the food was good and they gave us extra smoothies (by accident) which tasted great.
