I was professionally advised of the treatment plan along with possible complications and cost. The molar was removed but the wisdom tooth was not (I was advised this maybe a complication because of the wisdom tooth proximity to my sinus cavity, but a determination would be made during surgery and "watched" for later treatment) One day later I have no problems or issues. I give this long review to highlight the professional, caring Dr Wallen, his front office staff and his surgery staff. They turned a visit I honestly dreaded, experienced anxiety (due to traumatic dental experiences as a child) into one of thankful and blessed to have such a great team, do not dread going back, appreciate, and will return for further treatment.

I was recommended to Dr. Maxwell by my dentist Dr. Hortman, my case needed an oral surgeon. I had…read moreundergone 35 radiation treatments to fight throat cancer that left the bone underneath my gums compromised. Dr. Maxwell reviewed my history along with my x-rays and gave me a preliminary diagnosis. He then proceeded with a new extensive set which confirmed his original diagnosis. The doctor gave me a plan to resolve my issues which was my teeth were chipping and cracking due to the lack of blood flow to bone underneath the gums. The bone was so compromised that it wouldn't stand up to implants so the doctor recommended dentures. The process would have to start with the blood flow being restored through hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Dr. Maxwell needed my medical records to build a case for the insurance company. Immediately I thought about the hoops I would have to jump through to get them to him. The only thing that I had to give him were the names of my doctors and his staff took care of everything. The staff at Coastal Carolina is the best I've ever seen and I've been to more medical facilities than I could count. Through all my visits there the only thing I had to do is sit back and open my mouth. The staff took care of everything in an extremely friendly, compassionate and efficient way . . . they all followed Dr. Maxwell's example. It did take months for the doctor to prepare me for the dentures that Dr. Hortman made for me. The two doctors worked hand in hand through the whole process to restore my mouth. I highly recommend Dr. Maxwell and Coastal Carolina Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. My appointments were on time, never having to wait long. Also, I would see that all his patients were treated with the very high standards I was. Good luck with your journey, if you choose Coastal Carolina you'll be in exceptional hands

I did not receive a thorough exam. I've spent a lot of time in a dentist chair over my 68 years and he may be the worst in just the fact that he didn't communicate with me at all. Hopefully he doesn't treat all his patients like this and maybe he was having a bad day. The dental hygienist was very nice and did a good job. The office personnel were very friendly and helpful. They did tell me my insurance wouldn't cover any of the dental costs but upon returning home home I call BCBS and they do cover 50% even though Ocean Drive Dentistry is not in their group. I don't agree with the added 20.00 for PPE and I wasn't advised of this charge in advance.
