Great way to see the Central Business District in Melbourne on the City Circle Trams…read more Hop on a historic W-class tram for free. Route 35 goes in a clockwise direction. The 60 minute ride has a narration in English and stops at highlights along the way. The W-class trams were built from the 1920s to the 1950s. They remind me a bit of the streetcars in New Orleans. We used the trams to get a nice overview of Melbourne with stops to reach museums, Flagstaff Gardens and Queen Victoria Market. Had a great view of Marvel Stadium, Flinders Street Station, St. Paul's Cathedral and the Immigration Museum from the tram. So interesting to also see all of the Australian Open/AO advertising throughout Melbourne. A nice way to explore Melbourne especially when you have limited time in the city.

We purchased a MetroCard and tapped it each time we got onto a tram. The trams in the central…read moreshopping / business district are free and we did not have to tap. All of the trams that we got onto during the weekend were very very crowded it was standing room only. most were wearing masks since we were squeezed on top of each other. The City Circle Tram is a free and convenient way to see the sights of central Melbourne and the Docklands while experiencing a ride on one of the city's much loved older & historic trams. An audio commentary should have provided details of city landmarks & major attractions. We waited for the number 35 tram that never came. There was no notice that it was not running for the three days we were in Melbourne. We stopped another tram driver and asked, we were told it's not running.

A friend and I were on Day 3 of our 12-Day Southern Australia Explorer cruise with Princess Cruises https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=7AsUmSSTZ33cVe-JhEpXyA when we finally pulled into the Melbourne Cruise Terminal for our first official port day. I was last here over ten years ago and honestly couldn't recognize anything (obviously, I wasn't paying attention then). How was our experience when we used this gateway into Melbourne from our cruise ship!? PURCHASE Myki Card Daily Rate ($6.00AUD): Used for their public transportation, this was a wonderful deal especially if you were in port for the day to get to/from Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD) or elsewhere once you left the port area. Once you made it inside the CBD all trams were FREE. In addition, the Flinders Street Station was also a FREE tram zone (green cars) and would get you to most places in Melbourne. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=QdDXSIK049kJq507EE07oQ SERVICE The friendly staff inside the terminal were so helpful with our questions, offered some options as to where to go, and provided maps. The kind woman who sold us our tram card was equally cheery and kind. Upon our return, the outside port security guards were straight business and ushered us in while the Princess Cruises staff were wonderful as always. From start to finish, everyone we came in contact with was awesome - thank you! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) I honestly didn't notice any onsite parking at the terminal. However, there was a nearby passenger drop-off/pick-up location just past the security gates, and there potentially was some street parking once you were outside the terminal area. Otherwise, the 109 Tram conveniently took you to/from the Station Pier into the City Center - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A clean plain hangar-like interior https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=Ooac3kQKAoToXDQfgxP84w with a central information desk, several seats to take the load off your feet, minimal decorations, and ticket window counters to purchase your tram pass was what you saw. A decent amount of natural lighting entered through the many large windows while multiple large bright electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. There weren't any TVs nor background music. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&select=W3-EQc02VsLnUfYsBe26Bw ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Melbourne Cruise Terminal served its purpose well, and I honestly had no particular issues with the place. I arrived safely, the place was secure, it offered shelter, it sold tickets to their easy tram system, and everyone I dealt with was super helpful and nice. There wasn't anything else I needed. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $6.00AUD / $4.00USD BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, although they accepted credit cards, not mine of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS
