Since this place is just down the street from my house I'll definitely be back! They were really friendly and there was no wait or anything.

Tl;dr - stylist ignored what I wanted and gave me a boring cut that I hated, chopping off tons of…read moremy length in the process. Had to get it corrected elsewhere. Full version: I had long straight hair past my butt with no volume (figured since I can't get volume I could at least have impressive length) I wanted to get a long shag haircut to see how shorter layers in my hair would react without completely losing my length. Based on positive reviews here I booked Urban Halo. A shag is a complicated cut so I paid more to have an owner do it. Was assigned Andre. I called and asked what kind of prior consultation I would get and was assured he would consult with me to make sure I got what I wanted (I had a lot of questions about what kind of shag to do, whether I should consider a modern perm in lieu of a shag to add wave, etc.) Half an hour before my appointment I see a voice mail asking me to come 15 minutes early. Which irked me a little at the time because they provided so little notice but I didn't clock this as a red flag until after because my appointment was so rushed and this might have been an indicator. I get there. They wash my hair right away and that's fine. I sit in the chair. Andre asks me what I want and I say I want a long shag to create more volume. I ask about doing a perm because I have heard that perms today can provide more natural looking wave then the old 80s perm. He tells me that's called a body wave and "you could do that." And then...nothing. OooooK. I show him my example pictures of these really piecey shags with lots of layers all the way around the head. He goes OK so lots of layering around the face and more volume and he says we need to cut some of my length to get volume and how much am I willing to cut off? I tell him I would like to keep as much length as possible while still getting the cut but if he needs to take some off to get the look then fine. He ends up taking off like 10 inches of hair, bluntly across the bottom. My hair is still long because it was so insanely long before but this was a noticeable amount to take off. He then proceeds to do that thing where they angle the scissors diagonally and cut downwards away from your face to create these super subtle long layers which is a haircut I have gotten 1000 times at Great Clips and is not what I asked for. That is literally it for layering. He does stuff to even out the rest of the cut so it is literally a blunt cut for the entire back of my head and the whole thing was maybe 5 or 10 minutes. He spent more time blow drying than cutting. At the end the whole thing is just a slightly shorter version of what I already had with a few short layers in the front. I felt like I had cocker spaniel ears. I was obviously not thrilled and started messing with it in the mirror. He says how beautiful it looks now and I say well it definitely looks healthier, which was the only nice thing I could say, and then he tells me to think about coming back for the body wave and walks away. This was not an objectively bad haircut, thus the second star, but this was the most simple, boring, basic haircut and if I had wanted what was essentially just a trim to take length off I would have done it myself. Looking thru pics now I realize that all the haircuts here look the same and that is what my hair looked like, too. I felt gaslit. I immediately booked a free zoom consult with another stylist known for giving consultations and second opinions and she agreed this was absolutely not a shag. She told me a lot of stylists in DC don't even know what a shag is or if they do they won't do them because it is a specialized haircut. I am shocked because I am not a hair stylist but I 100% know what a shag haircut is. In retrospect I am guessing Andre didn't know how to do a shag and instead of really talking about that with me he just instead moved forward with the same basic cut he gives everyone. I hated hated hated it. So anyway I booked the other stylist elsewhere and paid twice as much for her to give me a true shag. It was a razor cut. I love it. It was more expensive than Urban Halo but I got exactly what I wanted. I actually have volume! So it WAS achievable - Urban Halo just couldn't bother to try. No body wave necessary (and honestly I would be afraid to go back and get that service from someone who doesn't listen to me). I now feel totally confident going shorter with this same cut next time (though it pissed me off that Andre took so much length off that we could have used as raw material for my correction cut). I wish I had taken a before photo to be able to post a comparison but didn't think to at the time. In conclusion, my cut from Urban Halo is adequate at best - not embarrassingly bad but a basic, cookie cutter cut with no advanced techniques that did not justify the price point. He didn't listen, just did what he wanted and I found this frankly both lazy and arrogant.

Yes, you read that right. I've been getting pedicures for decades and the bottom of my feet are always treated (remove dry skin) either a pedicure and no salon has ever asked me if I wanted the bottom of my feet's dry skin removed because it's always included. Vanessa said, "what did I expect for $22?" I said I expected what the advertisement said, "a regular pedicure." She's a scam artist.

I first spoke with Ms. Mimi on October 3, 2020, 3 months after moving to the area. I found her business on google after reading every last review mainly bad haha it's who I am. People always say nice things but I wanted to see what the negatives were, were they valid or were they people with unrealistic expectations? I waited for a while to ensure I was making the right decision and then I scheduled my appt for March 20, 2021. On March 21, 2021, Ms. Mimi messaged me to see if I was ok with my eyebrows and if I had any issues or concerns. We went ahead and scheduled my touch-up for April 14, 2021. A year later, I still love my eyebrows !! I have thick skin and understand that it is a bit stubborn at times. I've watched my skin reject every tattoo ink so my expectations were not as high. To my surprise, It lasted extremely long, longer than expected. If you did your research prior, you would know how long microblading last and when a touch-up is required. It's not going to be done twice and you are good for the rest of your life. You always have to follow the care instructions !! It's not rocket science! I am trying to post pictures of my eyebrows from start to finish and my updated touch-up today after a year (not necessary but wanted to keep it fresh) but no photo button. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, it's all about learning about different cultures and practicing grace. Give to others what we expect! Do not be so quick to judge! We all have bad days, in the customer service business, one bad customer can ruin someone's entire day and the next customer will judge that person based on their experience. I am extremely honest and I don't sugar coat things, there was a rude customer today and I saw that it affected her mood when I got there and I told her that it had nothing to do with her. How people treat you is a reflection of themselves !! Her mood changed and she was so happy !! If it's not for you keep it moving but it doesn't help to be mean and nasty! If you have issues address them and fix them but your tone and body language can make things better or worst !! I love Mimi and I have no complaints about my stubborn eyebrow !! I got both microblading and eyelash extensions done. You first numb your eyebrows with cream for about 20-25 minutes, and I also got my eyebrows waxed to clean them up so Mimi was better able to shape my eyebrows. Mimi then draws the eyebrow shape and listens to what you want before microblading. Mimi was very experienced and very sweet, and I entrusted everything to her. She drew the perfect shape based on my natural eyebrow and eye shape, and selected the right shade, a brown/black so it wouldn't be too dark. She also explained the process to me. You can't wet your eyebrows for about 12 days, during which they'll scab over and may appear light, but the pigmentation will return. You then have to come back to get microbladed again in 6 weeks (additional cost) so the ink will become more permanent (about 2-3 years). Before she begins, she shows you that the blade is new and opens the package in front of you. It still hurts some with the numbing cream but is bearable, and it lasts about 30-40 minutes. It looks really dark at first, but i've had it for a week now with some of the scabs coming off, and it looks great underneath. Mimi made the beginning of my eyebrows look like they are natural hairs when she shaped them! I didn't catch the name of the woman who did my eyelash extensions (she had the cutest little son), but she did a phenomenal job and was so sweet like Mimi. I had cluster mink lashes before that were glued to multiple lashes and were uncomfortable (if I squeezed my eyes shut they would hurt like it was pulling my natural lashes), but here they glue them onto your individual lashes and it feels so much more comfortable. The lashes they use also look so natural, and she even clipped the lashes to adjust to your eyes. Even though it's in a nail salon and not the most luxurious of places, this place is a real gem with unbeatable prices, great service, and results that look natural and fantastic! I don't leave many Yelp reviews, but I just had to share the amazing experience that I had with Mimi yesterday. She got the process started earlier than my appointment slot, which was great! The first question she asked me was what I wanted my eyebrows to look like, so I knew right away she cared about my experience and she assured me that they were going to look natural and fit my face like I wanted. I was so relieved to hear that because I truly did not want it to look like I had my eyebrows "done" or to be too dramatic. She could tell I was a little nervous and kept talking to me throughout the process and explained all the aftercare procedures and follow up appointment details wonderfully. I did not experience any pain - and I am a baby when it comes to any pain. It is a very different experience because you have little feeling in your eyebrows, but you can feel the pressure of the Microblading. The process goes by so quickly though, so it didn't bother me at all. You can tell that Mimi truly loves what she does. I kept telling her how thrilled and excited I was with how my eyebrows looked afterwards and I think she was almost more excited FOR me. I still just cannot get over how my face and eyes are immediately more defined and I'm only in Day 2 of healing. Mimi did a fantastic job microblading my eyebrows. This was not my first time getting them done, but I much preferred this experience and I will certainly visit Mimi again in the future. She is a very kind woman who clearly loves what she does. She also makes clear she will take care of her customers. I will admit I was surprised when I arrived to the location, because it looks like any run-of-the-mill walk-in nail salon, but Mimi has her own rooms in the back where she performs her procedures. She started by applying numbing cream and drawing on different shapes with a brow pencil to get my feedback before we began. I liked this better than other places that use sharpie or something less natural. I really felt like I was dealing with an artist. She listened to what I wanted and checked with me throughout the process to make sure that I was comfortable with the procedure (and gave me more numbing cream when requested) and that I was satisfied with how they looked. When I requested they be darker (so that they would fade to a color closer to my hair color), she agreed and instantly went to get darker dye. I can sometimes find it uncomfortable to correct service providers in what they're doing, but Mimi made me feel very relaxed and like I would get exactly what I wanted. And I did. I got my eyebrows done by Mimi 2 weeks ago and I am SO happy I did! I was incredibly nervous to get my brows microbladed, especially since Mimi was so much more affordable than everyone else in the area and because I knew it would be semi-permanent, so I was terrified I wouldn't like the outcome. BUT after struggling with over-plucked, uneven eyebrows for 10+ years (I also have a small scar that leaves a space in the middle of my eyebrows) I can say that I have NO REGRETS! Mimi is wonderful, knew exactly what color I needed, and listened to all my concerns and specifications for the shape. I was also worried about the healing process, but I kept them as dry as possible and only had a bit of flaking for about 3 days (everyone's skin is different and will heal differently!). I cannot wait to go back for my 5 week touch-up to perfect my beautiful eyebrows for hopefully 1+ years! If you don't have $500 to spend on your eyebrows, but still want to wake up each morning looking like you already spent 15 minutes putting makeup on your brows to make them look perfect, then I recommend Mimi!! *Since the photo below was taken, my brows have healed and look completely natural and match my light skin and light brown hair perfectly! I did my eyebrows a month ago, but decided to wait before I post a review. I did a lot research and watched videos. I was hesitating a lot, but I am glad I actually have done it. Location was easy to find and there is a lot parking available. My appointment was on time. Mimi explained the process to me. And started numbing. While it was taking time for a full numbing we were trying to choose the shape and color that will fit my face type. So there is an option: you can bring pictures of the shape you like, Mimi can suggest something for you, or in my case we just drew several versions and I picked the shape I like the most. By that type the brows were numb totally. So when Mimi was working I did not feel any pain, which I was so happy about. After it was done Mimi explained what to do and how to take care of the brows. In the beginning I felt it was a little darker than I wanted, but after the healing it became more like natural. The healing process was smooth. Yes the color changed - became more natural; the healed skin fell off and it was just a little itchy. I had many compliments at work. Brows are a very important facial feature. The wrong shape, arch, or color can make a huge difference in ones appearance. Having thin or bare eyebrows can be even worse, sometimes depressing. Over the years my eyebrows thinned drastically. I seen a few dermatologist, all who had different answers to give. The first one said that waxing burnt my hair follicles and my hair would never grow back. The second one said that my hair lost was a result of seborrheic dermatitis. The last one prescibed a cream that is used to grow eyelahes. Needless to say it did not work. Spike pencil by MAC became my bestfriend, I used it everyday until I found Mimi. I considered microbraiding in the past but was displeased with the results I saw on others and the ridiculous prices. After reviewing Mimi's work and reviews I decided to give her a try and I am so glad I did. She is nice, professional, and patient. She made me feel comfortable and her confidence was infectious, not to mention her reasonable price. Today was my 4 week touch up and her work is just as good as the first time. Please don't let VAN put the numbing cream on you before her showing you the eyebrow design. Make sure she draws your like before taking hair off from you. She goes over your hair line saying that she will lift your eyebrow to look higher, she doesn't respect your hair line growth. after twice I told her to follow my hair line. Plus the ink that she uses is really poor and comes off, this is a month I went with her on June 6 2024. the color changes to greyish. Please don't think because its cheap its good. I rather spend double the price that I payed but to get a good job. The double line you see was my hair covering my old microblading, if she would follow my hair line this wouldn't happened. She wanted to put skin color on it to cover it but we all know that doesn't work like that. Its like a tattoo that has to be remove complete not cover it up. My eyebrow hair looks more because and natural and black then what she did. I first heard about Mimi after noticing one of my girlfriends gorgeous brows! After she told me she had them microbladed and seeing how incredible they looked, I was sold. I immediately booked an appointment for my sister and I to get our brows done by Mimi. My sister and I had a blast hanging out with Mimi and getting our brows done. Mimi is truly an artist who knows exactly how to create the perfect brow for each client. She began by free hand drawing our brows until we had the exact shape we loved. As blondes...we were a little apprehensive as we did not want them to be too dramatic. She knew exactly how to give us a natural flawless look. The process was not painful at all and took about an hour each. The healing process was much faster than expected. After three days my brows began peeling/scabbing. The peeling process lasted two full days. It has been one week since my appointment and my photos speak for themselves. Although it being in a nail salon was confusing at first, I had a great experience here. Mimi was so friendly as soon as I met her! I have gotten my eyebrows microbladed before, but from another person. I did not like how they looked nor did they last very long (it's been maybe a year and I've had it touched up too). They've faded a lot so I wanted to find someone else that could create a better, more natural looking shape for my face. Before even telling Mimi what I wanted to do to my eyebrows, she immediately said everything she wanted to do to them and it was everything I was planning on telling her! Clearly she has been doing this for a long time. She was very quick and did not even have to "trace" an eyebrow shape because she knew how to precisely draw them naturally. When my other brow technician showed me her final results of my eyebrows I was not wowed. But when Mimi showed me her results I was so happy! She is also so super sweet! I can't wait to see what they're gonna look like and will come back in 6 weeks for my touch up. I had a terrific experience with Mimi and my permanent eyeliner session! Mimi did an incredible job and was able to fit me in her schedule the day of and exceeded my expectations. I was nervous about the pain and about how natural the semi-permanent eyeliner would look (I did the tops of my eyes only), but she used plenty of numbing cream and it was not at all painful, and she took care to make the results look natural, using a brown color and tightlining the eyeliner. I've already scheduled and look forward to my one-month touch-up. She explained the after-care procedure thoroughly (use a piece of cotton with filtered bottled water on the area and dab on bacitracin ointment, for three days). So far, I've experienced no swelling, which is amazing. She also let me drop by the ATM at the nearby CVS since I was running low on cash. The results look even better in person than in photographs and Mimi is definitely very knowledgeable and skilled. I felt I was in great hands the entire time. I'm so happy with the results, as I already feel so much more confident and it will save me lots of time getting ready in the mornings! read more

She did such an AMAZING GREAT JOB on my eyebrows. Mimi is a true artist and was meticulous when shaping my new brows. She is an absolute perfectionist and she is very considerate, checking that I was okay the entire procedure. She really knows her stuff! I was a bit hesitant about going through with the microblading procedure but after reading all the reviews about Mimi, I decided to give it a go. Let me tell you, if you are thinking about getting microblading done, Mimi is the best. I felt at ease and comfortable the minute I spoke to her. She was so sweet, funny and very knowledgeable!! She's been doing this for many years. The procedure took about an hour and half and she took her time. She gave me clear instructions on how to take care of it after the procedure. She made sure the eyebrows are exactly what you wanted before she starts the procedure, so make sure it's really what you want. It took a week for my brows to peel and heal. Even it went through the healing process I gave her a call and asked questions and she was very understanding and made assured that it's all part of the healing process. I'm going back in two days for my touch up and I can't wait. So if you are in the DMV area pls choose Mimi.. Mimi is great! I had been thinking about getting my eyebrows microbladed for a couple of years, and after seeing all the pictures of Mimi's work I made my appointment. Mimi did a great job! My eyebrows are the exact shape/style I wanted! She drew them on first to make sure I liked the general shape and then began the microblading process. She opened up a new blade in front of me which I appreciated, that way I knew everything was sterile. The first pass through hurt a bit, but after that I could barely feel it! It has been about a week since I got my eyebrows done and they are doing great! They are still fairly dark, which is to be expected, and are starting to scab over and heal. I was very surprised that right after I got them done there was very little pain or redness. The only bad thing is that they are currently very itchy because they are so dry (you cannot put anything on them for the first 2 weeks). Overall, my experience was great and I would recommend Mimi to everyone. She is very friendly and knows what she is doing. read more

Coming here has been one of the best beauty decisions I have ever made! I never make a decision without doing a ton of research so when I finally decided to look into Microblading I came across Arlington Nova online and I was sold. All of Mimi's 5 star reviews and her instagram photos spoke for themselves. I actually booked for myself and my sister and Mimi was able to do both of our brows at the end of her day. Mimi made sure I was happy with the shape before we started, she was really great at listening to what I wanted and she executed flawlessly on it. My natural brows are very light and sparse and I used to spend the time using brow pencils every day. Mimi's work is outstanding!!!! I was extremely nervous about the permanent aspect of this on my face. What if it turns out bad and I look like lil kim!!! But, Mimi calmed my nerves and now I look younger and receive so many compliments. Now, if you are an American who has not experienced different cultures, you may be put off by this experience. Mimi a little abrasive and tells you to write a review. She is not light handed nor does she handle clients with kid gloves. This is not a spa treatment or relaxing Sunday event. For example, Mimi asked me where I am from. I get this a lot being light brown skinned. I told her I am African American. She said, "African? No, you not African. You too pretty.". Yup!!! I searched the internet trying to find a place to get my eyebrows microbladed. After extensive research and yelp reviews, I made an appointment with Mimi. Needless to say I was very nervous. Just as I arrived, Mimi had a client she was doing. She was gracious enough to let me see what was going on. I was relieved from that point forward. Mimi applied the numbing cream, we talked about shape and color, then she went to work on my brows! she is constantly viewing her work as she goes along making sure everything is to her liking. Mimi is the best permanent makeup artist! She did such an amazing job on a co-worker's microbladed brows that I made an appointment for my daughter to have microblade brows--she's a new mom who doesn't have much time. The brows turned out beautiful!! And so natural! Then her mother-in-law saw the brows and LOVED them. So for her birthday, we took her to Mimi for microblade brows. Another beautiful, natural pair of eyebrows thanks to Mimi! I had my brows done earlier by a different person and they weren't done as beautifully as Mimi did for my daughter and her mother-in-law. I used so many products to let it grow & when it did, I just can't keep up with it. I like my eyebrows now. I still have to go back for a touch up but I'm very satisfied. I will say this, you have to trust the process. At first I thought it was too blocky & I was getting scared but after 10 days my eyebrows looks so good. I've never written a Yelp review before, but Mimi was so incredible that I HAD to review. First of all, she is the sweetest person. Second, she is just amazing at what she does! I have always had issues with my eyebrows with overplucking and such, and because of her, I feel confident about my eyebrows for the first time in a VERY long time. I asked her how long she's been doing microblading and she said 36 YEARS!!! Talk about a pro right??? I'm very pleased with the results and this is only the first session! (at least 1 touch up is necessary with microblading) I can see why people may be skeptical because her place of work is in a nail salon, but please don't let that discourage you. Although that person did a good job, I started following Tuull on social media around that same time and knew she would be the next artist I went to once I was due for a touch up. The person that first did my brows did a good job keeping things conservative (which I appreciated.) But at the one year mark, the work had shrunken and faded enough that it only looked a tad different from my natural brows so I went to Borte for that little extra razzle dazzle. It was super easy booking online and during our consultative visit, Tuull walked me through some options, asked me lots of questions and even sketched different stylistic approaches on my brows to then go home and think about. I then returned for my follow-up appointment and since then, two more touch up appointments over the past couple of years. She is a total pro and really knows what she is doing. My brows now frame my features in a much more defined way and it's freeing to not have to do my brows daily and still enjoy their framing once I wash my face or go swimming. Like with any powder brows, you've got to get your annual touch-up to keep them looking fresh (because fading is inevitable.) While the lashes themselves are high quality and long-lasting, I personally don't think the full price of $120 is justified. If you're okay with the cost, you'll likely be happy with the results--but for me, it's a bit too pricey for the experience overall.
