This is a great place to take your pocket pets. Pocket Pets are referred to as small animals such as guinea pigs, hamsters, hedgehogs, mice, rats, gerbils, chinchillas, and sugar gliders. All of these wonderful pint-size creatures require specialized care and therefore require special veterinary doctors. The staff and doctors here are very kind, compassionate and patient. Not only do they specialize in tiny fur babies, but also your larger, more common pets such as dogs, cats, and birds. We came here because our family Guinea pig was ill and not acting her normal chipper self. This was the only animal near our house that seen and treated pocket pets. I had no clue not all veterinary hospitals treated little pets. I was thankful that Ark hospital was able to see us so quickly and that the office visit wasn't outrageous either. If memory serves me correctly, the visit was only $120. You cannot put a price tag on your children's first pet! The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Dr. Cara Dixon was the vet that took care of our Chili Bean. She too was very warm, compassionate and very knowledgeable. Dr. Dixon is the owner of Ark Veterinary Hospital. She attended Michigan State University for her undergraduate degree in Zoology. I completely felt our family pet was in great hands. By the end our our visit, I had 2 prescriptions for our lil guinea pig and felt rest assured that she would be on the mend soon. The 2 prescriptions only cost me around $20, again- very affordable. Within a week our family fur-ball was back to she squeaky self, and the kids were dressing her up and putting her in toy cars to drive around the house. I would highly recommend Ark Animal Hospital, especially if you have a pocket pet.

I took my sick rabbit here that was otherwise a very healthy 1.5 year old Flemish giant. They kept him all day with no communication until I called. The vet told me his stomach was full of food and she saw something she even said was "odd" in his small intestines. But she blew that off and sent him home with critical care food and meds. I nursed my rabbit all night and in the morning he very horrifically died in my arms. I'm sure his intestines were blocked. The vet even said "it looks like when a dog swallows a toy". I paid $600 for my rabbit to die 12 hours later! I will NEVER recommend this vet to anyone. They should have the humanity to atleast offer me some of my money back. Just horrible!

Street view, just south of M59 on Mound Road.

Came here after googling veterinary clinics in the area, & I called around looking for a vet who could look at our rabbit, which is considered an exotic animal. Not many vets will tend to rabbits, they mostly see cats and dogs. Glad I found this great place. I can't say enough about the service and cate they give. I highly recommend them! Dr Kispert was very professional and compassionate.

Very affordable very accommodating very friendly. I am very pleased. I was in and out all three times I visited and all three visits combined cost less than $100. Thankful to ark for talking good care of my turtle!

Once you take your pet to Ark you won't go anywhere else. These people go ABOVE & BEYOND for their patients. Here's my story: Adopted the sweetest Doberman, who we named Red, from a dobe rescue out in Clinton, MI. We were told from the rescue that Red had been treated for heartworm and wanted to follow up with our local vet and establish a relationship. We brought him to a vet in Troy (that shall remain unnamed) and they let us know that Red was healthy and good to go. They didn't seem personable there, so we asked around and were referred to Ark. Long story short, they found that Red still had heartworms! How was this possible when the other vet said they checked for it? Well, Ark thought the same thing and called the other vet who gave them no real answers so Ark took it into their own hands and called the rescue we got Red from along with the vet where he was treated while with the rescue. Talk about customer service. Red was treated for his heart worms and has now been heart worm free for 2 years now! I can't thank Dr. Kispert & Dr. Richter enough for all the help along with their wonderful staff. It means a lot to us to have such passionate professionals caring for our furry family members.

Dr. Liz does a lot of work for the local rescues in our area. If you're looking for a veterinarian and you think Family Paws is one of your choices, wehave experienced great care here. Office is clean and well maintained. If you are inclined to donate, there is usually a kitty there being treated from Rosie's Catfe. Great things happen here :)

They were quick to respond to my email inquiries, honest with their costs and procedures (which were very fair), and setting up an initial appointment was simple. You can book an appointment using their online portal, or call/contact them directly. They had a good range of available booking slots, and we were able to set one up within a very reasonable time frame. The Family Paws Veterinary Clinic was easy to find, it's located in the corner spot of the strip mall, found at 22 mile and VanDyke Rd; so there is plenty of parking. The front of the Clinic is full windows, and the interior was neat, clean and organized. The staff greeted me immediately, and were great with my 9 week old pup. From the quaint waiting area up front, you could clearly view the unisex restroom and a couple exam rooms to the left, while there were more exam rooms around a corner at the other side. My pup and I were brought to our room after a short wait, everything there was also well cleaned and organized, and my appointment ran perfectly on time. From the techs, to the vets, to the reception, all of the staff were friendly, polite and professional. I felt comfortable with my pet in their care. At the end, check out was easy with a clear receipt of what procedures occurred. I am also happy to report a quick response to a lab that had been sent out for testing; I recieved a phone call with the results in less than two days. Overall, I'm very happy with my selection of Family Paws as our new Veterinary Clinic, and we have already booked our pup's next appointment with them.

I have a Pitt mix she gets anxiety going to the vet and other places, so I give her trazadone. I brought my dog in to get treatment for an allergy outbreak and update vaccines. The vet was terrified of my dog. The only time to come near her was to "examine" her. Which I had to point out her spots all down her sides. Now when it came time to do the injections he was so nervous my dog could sense it making her nervous. Well this vet decides to drive a needle right into the skin on her shoulder with out pulling the skin, my dog did not like this making her buck and jump. They then make me muzzle my dog and try to do it again. Mind you the vet tech which I'm pretty sure was his wife, was not trying to help hold my dog. So he again shoves a needle into her shoulder and gets the same reaction from her. Then she pulls the muzzle off. Mind you my dog never growled nor snarled this whole time. The vet got stuck by his needle he didn't have a hold of which then turned him into an ass telling me he can't come near my dog unless she's muzzled. Then I was still charged an exam fee even though I told them to stop because they were causing her to much stress. When I stated how it was ridiculous I was being charged for them doing nothing I was told it's because they wasted all their vaccines. Also is they try to sell you antibiotics ask for a paper script. A 14 day supply of cephalexin was $32, you can get that filled at any pharmacy for far cheaper.

He did a MRIT for my pit bull, when for her size, weight, and breed this shouldn't have been an option, they should've advised me to take her to a surgical specialist to get a TPLO done, but I'm assuming he wanted to pocket the quick 5 GRAND to do the surgery. Not only did he preform the wrong surgery for my dog, he botched it, the operation did not hold and she wasn't able to put any weight on her leg, and within a few months it became infected. When we brought her back to Cameron he claimed that he did nothing wrong, refused to fix the problem he made, and said he'd need another 5 grand to operate on her leg again. Once we demanded that he fix the issue he created under the cost of the original operation he said he would, but with an ultimatum, he said we wouldn't be allowed to bring her back afterwards... At this point we about had it and had lost all confidence in Cameron. We took our dog to the surgical center in flint, when they saw what he had done they were taken aback. We had to go through 2 more surgeries after Cameron. One to reverse what he had done to my dog, and the second to fix the problem that we originally had paid Cameron 5 thousand dollars to fix. My dog was out of commission for a couple years, going through three surgeries, this whole situation stole her youth and costed me over 15,000 dollars. he should've never operated on my dog to begin with.
