I've been taking my rats here for a while. I've had nothing but good experiences with the younger vet who's been watching them. Only problem I've ever had is my appointment starting later than I scheduled it for, so plan for that in advance. The prices are affordable for me considering rats are "exotic", that's hard to find. They keep in mind my financial status when recommending what can be done for my boys. Staff is super sweet. One of my boys was wheezing when I was waiting for the vet to come in, I told the front desk I was worried and a tech took him to the back to get him on oxygen while we waited for the main vet. They are able to schedule me in within a day or two of calling which is also amazing. 10/10 recommend for small animal owners! read more

Terrible place!!!!!! I brought my newly adopted cockatiel here that just started plucking. They told me he had an "ingrown feather" and charged me $700 for surgery. At post op visit they said he may never stop plucking that spot. Well 3 months later Im he is still plucking. After capes and ecollars and silvadene it seemed to have gotten worse. When I called to get an appt they said they didn't have anything but to send a picture and they would have a dr take a look I waited. When she called back she said it looked infected but she couldn't really tell but he needs an appt. What was point of picture???? I thought they cared and were going to give me something until I could get in with them???? read more

This is a great place to take your pocket pets. Pocket Pets are referred to as small animals such as guinea pigs, hamsters, hedgehogs, mice, rats, gerbils, chinchillas, and sugar gliders. All of these wonderful pint-size creatures require specialized care and therefore require special veterinary doctors. The staff and doctors here are very kind, compassionate and patient. Not only do they specialize in tiny fur babies, but also your larger, more common pets such as dogs, cats, and birds. We came here because our family Guinea pig was ill and not acting her normal chipper self. This was the only animal near our house that seen and treated pocket pets. I had no clue not all veterinary hospitals treated little pets. I was thankful that Ark hospital was able to see us so quickly and that the office visit wasn't outrageous either. If memory serves me correctly, the visit was only $120. You cannot put a price tag on your children's first pet! The staff was very welcoming and friendly. Dr. Cara Dixon was the vet that took care of our Chili Bean. She too was very warm, compassionate and very knowledgeable. Dr. Dixon is the owner of Ark Veterinary Hospital. She attended Michigan State University for her undergraduate degree in Zoology. I completely felt our family pet was in great hands. By the end our our visit, I had 2 prescriptions for our lil guinea pig and felt rest assured that she would be on the mend soon. The 2 prescriptions only cost me around $20, again- very affordable. Within a week our family fur-ball was back to she squeaky self, and the kids were dressing her up and putting her in toy cars to drive around the house. I would highly recommend Ark Animal Hospital, especially if you have a pocket pet. read more

At Ark Veterinary hospital you are required to get the very best care possible for your animal and if you ask for anything less then you will be told to leave. My rabbit's normal vet was being overloaded since the pandemic started as most vets have, however his teeth grew pointy and needed a tooth trim because he stopped eating his food. Ark was able to get him in incredibly quickly. The procedure is typically routine, about $150-250 depending on the vet. However at Ark, they required he get a full work up. They required lab work, x-rays, 5 different medications before they would even consider giving him the surgery. Total cost: $1100. 7x more. When I asked if we can decline the lab work (on the basis that I can't afford that) they refused to see Liam and told me at Ark we only provide the best for the animals we see. However my rabbit was in danger of death. No vet was able to schedule him any sooner. Pay up or your rabbit will die. This is Ark's policy, the best care or nothing at all. I strongly recommend that if you are looking at Ark that you look elsewhere, for the sake of your wallet. They are the american health care system of vets. Thankfully my rabbits normal vet called me back letting me know they had an open appointment and that they'd see him right away. He was in and out in a couple hours and it cost $210 (including all anesthesia and take home medication) and he's doing just fine now. read more

I took my sick rabbit here that was otherwise a very healthy 1.5 year old Flemish giant. They kept him all day with no communication until I called. The vet told me his stomach was full of food and she saw something she even said was "odd" in his small intestines. But she blew that off and sent him home with critical care food and meds. I nursed my rabbit all night and in the morning he very horrifically died in my arms. I'm sure his intestines were blocked. The vet even said "it looks like when a dog swallows a toy". I paid $600 for my rabbit to die 12 hours later! I will NEVER recommend this vet to anyone. They should have the humanity to atleast offer me some of my money back. Just horrible! read more

I would not recommend this vet. What was supposed to be a routine operation that they encouraged me to do led to my otherwise healthy happy rabbit dying under their care. I was incredibly nervous about that outcome, as rabbits are sensitive, and the worst situation happened. They made me pay for the procedure that was completed as well, which I understand is company policy, but it still felt awful to have to give them hundreds of dollars in order to receive my pet's body back. And then no condolence card, no call to check in on us, nothing. If you have a rabbit and you're on the fence about taking him/her to Ark, look for other vets that may be more compassionate. read more

Came here after googling veterinary clinics in the area, & I called around looking for a vet who could look at our rabbit, which is considered an exotic animal. Not many vets will tend to rabbits, they mostly see cats and dogs. Glad I found this great place. I can't say enough about the service and cate they give. I highly recommend them! I'm incredibly thankful to have found this vet clinic! I've taken my rabbit twice in the past year, and both times she has been seen by Dr. Lee and staff. They taken excellent care of her and been able to diagnose and solve her illness. Everyone I've spoken with has been very kind and helpful. They are very busy, so be prepared to wait when you bring your pet for their appointment, but it's worth the wait in my opinion. Dr. Dixon and staff were wonderful in treating our guinea pig, Moe, who we had taken to two other vets that were unable to get a urine sample from him to run testing on. Other places had given us a syringe to get a sample from him (from a gp?!?), but Ark kept Moe for four hours in order to make sure they got that sample! Although we've only been here once so far, we are now clients for life for our 3 guinea pigs, as it's obvious they are committed to their patients, even the little 2 pounders. read more

This place is nice cause it's close to me, but it seems a little unprofessional. Due to COVID I wasn't able to go inside, but we dropped off our cat at 9:30 am for a urinalysis and didn't get a call to pick him up until 6:20 pm. I had anxiety about this experience in general, but then they kept giving us grief about getting vaccines, and we had to remind them twice they wanted us to schedule a vaccine appointment. Ark veterinary hospital helped us manage our leopard gecko's gout. They diagnosed the issue, gave us medicine, and called to check on us frequently. Unfortunately, we had to put Kiwi down after she took a turn for the worse. We were devastated. The vet went above and beyond. They wrote us a letter and made little claw prints. Could not be more pleased with veterinary services than I have been with Ark Vet. Dogs, cats, rats and lizards have been carried by us into the Ark Vet examining rooms over the past twenty-five years, and all have been treated with dignity and respect and cared for very well. My wife Laura and I arrived in Shelby Township, MI, on December 23, 1992 with two children, two dogs and a cat. Soon thereafter we introduced ourselves to the Ark Veterinary Hospital. We had a Beagle, Spitz, Damifino mix (roughly 20 pounds, named Kasha) and an Irish Setter, Golden Lab mix (at the time 110+ pounds, named Shannon and called our house-horse.), plus a small ginger-colored cat (about six pounds and fast as a snake, named oddly enough, Ginger). For the next ten years, Ark Vet cared for our pets. But in the fullness of time, each of them passed away, and we were pet free. . .but not for long. Almost sixteen years ago, Arianna (a tiny tea-cup poodle, now about three pounds 12 ounces) joined the family. A few days ago I took her in for her 16th annual check-up, and yesterday for a tooth cleaning and possible extraction (not necessary it turned out). She's totally blind, and a bit deaf, but according to the new owners of Ark Vet, she's in good health and should be around for a while yet. Once you take your pet to Ark you won't go anywhere else. These people go ABOVE & BEYOND for their patients. Here's my story: Adopted the sweetest Doberman, who we named Red, from a dobe rescue out in Clinton, MI. We were told from the rescue that Red had been treated for heartworm and wanted to follow up with our local vet and establish a relationship. We brought him to a vet in Troy (that shall remain unnamed) and they let us know that Red was healthy and good to go. They didn't seem personable there, so we asked around and were referred to Ark. Long story short, they found that Red still had heartworms! How was this possible when the other vet said they checked for it? Well, Ark thought the same thing and called the other vet who gave them no real answers so Ark took it into their own hands and called the rescue we got Red from along with the vet where he was treated while with the rescue. Talk about customer service. Red was treated for his heart worms and has now been heart worm free for 2 years now! I can't thank Dr. Kispert & Dr. Richter enough for all the help along with their wonderful staff. The lack of customer service will sink this company. I do have good news though, they are consistent. Consistently untimely in every manner. If you have a scheduled appointment, be ready to wait an hour in the parking lot. No apologies for their service failure. Even an acknowledgement of a service failure could have fixed this. I guess veterinarian skipped the business etiquette classes in college. That's only my first grievance with this business. They stated they would call us with the results within 24 hours. After 24 hours of no contact we had to reach out for answers, and the results still weren't ready. They then prescribed my dog medication they didn't have available and recommended that I start this medication immediately, but their laboratory "1day shipping" wouldn't have arrived for 2 days. Do you see the trend yet? Consistently failing at all angles of customer service. Last note, they couldn't even weigh my dog correctly, and only saw a problem when we pointed out that she lost five pounds. Miraculously she gained 7 pounds when we forced them to re weigh her, which they did reluctantly after we were given the "side eye". read more

I love Ark Veterinary Clinic and so does my baby boy. He is 10 and they have been taking good care of him since he was a pup. They always care a lot about him and they spend time explaining his treatment, medicines ect. He ate a bar of soap years ago and they nursed him back to health. He is very important to me and so I apriciate how much they care and do there work with heart. I wish they could see people, too! =) You wont be disappointed at Ark... First off, do not trust the reviews for Ark Veterinary that you see on their Facebook page. They delete and block any review that is unfavorable to their business. Now, I can only speak for myself but seriously, do not take your animal to Ark's Veterinary in Shelby Township. Or do so at your pet's risk. After sinking nearly $400 in tests for my very ill cat, the doctor sent me home with a can of food. That was it. The next day she calls and says she wants to run ANOTHER $350 worth of tests, and I decide to pay $50 for the few meds that she recommends instead. Despite the fact that my cat's oxygen was extremely low (the doctor's assistant nurse just discredited the reading on the monitor because "that can't be right"); despite the fact that his liver looked bad according to the tests; despite the fact that his nose was discolored (to which I specifically pointed it out to the doctor, but to no interested response); despite the fact that I had the vet whom I had previously gone to, i.e. the PET DOCTOR, fax all of my cat's previous medical history; despite everything, the incompetent doctor at Ark Veterinary misdiagnosed and mistreated my cat. Less than 24 hours afterwards from receiving the meds and a couple of syringes to force food and aluminum hydroxide down his throat, my cat's nose was turning purple. I decided instead to take him back to the PET DOCTOR. There, they immediately gasped at my cat's condition and put him on oxygen. The color of his nose began to return. He would have died within hours from suffocation because of the negligence and ineptitude of Ark. Then they gave him a couple of shots and showed me the correct way to feed him (placing food on my finger and rubbing it on the upper mouth and not forcing it in with a syringe). For the first time in nearly a week my cat's tail was wagging, and, as you can imagine, the vet at the Pet Doctor was flabbergasted at the incompetence of the work done by Ark Veterinary. He wanted their info. He gave me medicine for my cat's liver and told me to discard the crap I had just paid over $50 the day prior for. Mind you, he did all of this just by looking at paper work, and to top it off, charged me only $100. The doctor at Ark should be held accountable. She nearly killed my cat and nearly charged me over $700 to do so, over half of which I paid and will probably not get back. Although I should. I hope your experience will not be as equally appalling and - had I just waited a few more hours - fatal to your pet. read more

It's hard enough to find a good vet practice sometimes - let alone one that treats exotic pets. My RES turtle was not looking well for a few days. I recently moved to the area and called around looking to get her checked out. One place I called referred me to Ark Veterinary Clinic, so I called and was able to make a same day appointment. All of the staff was super friendly and Dr. Richter was very knowledgeable about turtles. Left with two medications plus the visit for less than $90, which was so much better than I was expecting. I think I found my new veterinary clinic to take my pets! Very impressed ... And I loved the "house kitty" that they allow to walk around the place as she pleased.
