Since the sign we have posted is really big and literally cannot be missed we thought maybe the guy was at our door to ask permission to be on our property because he was doing something for a neighbor and maybe a cord he needed ended up on our side of the property line. (This happens all the time) So while my husband was trying to figure out what this guy wanted I was trying to call my dog inside. The second the guy heard me talking he invited himself insidr, practically stepped over my dog and just entered the house with no invitation. My husband and I are both polite people and were raised to be hospitable so we didn't say anything. We also didn't say anything when he invited himself to sit down. He started asking a bunch of questions that seemed just like friendly questions. It wasn't until he asked for my email that I realized he was trying to sign us up for service without permission! I nicely asked him to leave and took his business card. The next day we called to tell him we were not interested and also asked him to please be respectful of peoples posted no soliciting signs. Later that night we got notified by the credit reporting agencies that he ran a hard credit check on my husband! Apparently even though we DID NOT authorize this and we DID NOT give him a social security number he was able to pull the report just by using our address, my husbands name, and his birthday! I was appalled and absolutely livid! We have been trying to contact this company all morning to explain the situation and ask them to get this inquiry off his report and nobody will answer the phone! If anybody from the company shows up at your door saying they are selling ADT security systems or anything else DO NOT engage in conversation! Tell them to leave immediately! It is totally illegal to run a credit check without authorization and it is totally uhh unprofessional and rude to ignore a no soliciting sign! We have no plans to stop trying to get this inquiry off his record! The mans name was Taylor Hopkins!

My husband and I both specifically asked him how long the contract was for for the monitoring monthly fee and were told that it was 1 year. We specifically asked what it would cost it us to cancel after a year and he told us it wouldn't cost us anything as long as it had been a year. He told us that when a year was up we should call and tell them we were going to switch companies and they would lower our monthly payment or we could just stop it anytime after a year. Last month I called ADT and asked for a lower payment and was told no so I got a different system with a cheaper monthly fee. I then called to cancel and was told that I have a 36 month contract and it will cost me almost $700 to get out of it. Very deceptive sales practices.
