At first glance, the property is really cool…read morewith added touches like fresh eggs in the refrigerator, cookies on the counter and little "gift bags" on all the pillows. It didn't take long, however to notice that the pictures on the property listing don't reflect the current reality. The cabin is badly in need of a deep clean. When we walked upstairs the room full of beds was perfect for the occasion, but we walked on the balcony to find filthy, outdated furniture and dirt and debris all over the balcony. The windows were filthy, the coffee maker and toaster were nasty, and there was a thick layer of dirt peaking out from under the couch. There was a visible dust layer on everything, the board games, the air hockey table, in every corner and windowsill. The paddle board decals are all coming off and the board wasn't blown up enough to use. The propane fire pit had no propane. All the outdoor furniture was covered in bird poop and dirt, including the front porch furniture and around the fire pit. There was also an outdoor container next to the fire pit that had several bags of trash in it, creating an unpleasant stench as we sat near the fire pit. We live locally, so we went to our home and got a leaf blower to try to clean off the patio/balcony and I had to wipe down all the chairs around the fire pit so that we could sit there without getting filthy. We understand that this is a farm setting, however for the cost, more attention needs to be given to cleanliness and replacing small appliances, or at least giving them some much needed attention. On a positive note, the animals were cute and we enjoyed the kittens that hung around the porch.

One would never think that such a unique and beautiful cabin could be found in the middle of the thickest woods and hollers of eastern Kentucky. Nestled in the Appalachian mountains, The General's Cabin offers a panacea for all of your worldly worries and concerns. The soundtrack of my daily life which consists of consistent questions from my child, the tension built up in my shoulders from driving in morning traffic and the demands of bills, birthday parties and work melt away with a quick walk down to the lake that's located on the property, a nature hike on the path that winds around the farm and a morning coffee taken on the front porch while listening to the wild birds that populate the woods. Highlights: 1. Remote and tucked away from the road. If you're looking for solace and quiet, this is your spot. There's about 40 acres of forest surrounding the cabin so you're afforded plenty of solitude. 2. Close to national parks and on the edge of the Daniel Boone Forest. It's a great spot to set up camp if you're headed to do some rock climbing or hiking at the Red River Gorge. 3. Everything you need is in the cabin! The cabin comes stocked with washing machine, dryer and laundry detergent! There's a full-sized fridge and freezer for all of your needs and a stove and range to cook or bake whatever you like. There's a coffee maker and grounds. 4. Good shopping nearby! We picked up groceries from the closest big city, Lexington on the way to the cabin - there's a Whole Foods and a co-op there that you can stock up for food. And there's the fabulous Liquor Barn where we grab baguettes from Bluegrass Bakery and cheeses, cakes and olives and wine galore. If you're ever in need of anything extra, there's a big Kroger in nearby Stanton, so no worries there! There's also an affiliated cabin across the road that provides whole multi course meals in their space, complete with wines, appetizers, main courses and desserts and even a cheese course, if you so prefer! 5. Clean and courteous. The cabin is well-maintained and the interior is comfy and well-appointed. I love the large stone fireplace and the cozy couches and chairs. It's the perfect spot to read through your stack of magazines and for kids to play in nature. The owners, Joy and Mike, left a note and some fresh flowers, which was a welcomed touch! One would expect that a cabin so remote in location would have issues with critters but I was pleasantly surprised at how tight and secure the house seemed when we visited. Despite the abundant wildlife outdoors, none of it made it inside. 6. Dogs welcome! We have a medium-sized dog that my child likes to take along on holidays and so we are always looking for accommodations that accept pets, and we were so happy to know that not only were Joy and Mike ok with us bringing our pooch along with us, they were very happy to welcome her! They mentioned that they've had many canine guests in the past and that it's never been an issue, which was a relief because vacation homes and especially ones that are so beautifully decorated often discourage dog owners from bringing dogs. 7. A fun loft space for kids! My son adores the loft space and happily set up camp up there. As soon as we walked through the doors, he spotted that loft and proceeded to climb the ladder, much to our surprise! He had us lug books and toys up there so he could "spy" on us from up there, which kept him entertained for hours. All in all, an amazing spot in the middle of the woods and one that's gorgeous and unique. I've stayed in many cabins that advertise peace and quiet and fail to deliver, but The General's Cabin did through and through. I wish we could stay for longer stretches but we will settle for returning for our annual trip back to Kentucky to visit family for our little get away from the chaos and grind of urban living. Hopefully one day, we will be able to spend a couple of weeks up there and to bring our friends to share in the joy of this corner of heaven.

Rustic and wilderness meets comfort and luxury at the end of the The General's Cabin road. We go for the amenities but we enjoy it due to the quiet, beauty, and nature. If you are looking for peace, fun and luxury here you have it all. You don't have to leave the property to get it all but if you want there are hiking trails, waterfalls, bridges and an abundance of other things to see and do in the area.

They all come with a full kitchen and utensils, propane grill, sat tv, free wifi, and hotubs. The views are beautiful since it is near the red river gorge hiking area and on a working farm. There is also a swimming pool that all cabins have access to. The owners are very friendly and let you roam their property to view the horses. Donkeys roam the property and will walk right up to you. They are incredibly friendly and let you pet them. It is a short drive to the Daniel Boone National Forest and the Natural Bridge. There is so much to do in the area, like ziplining and hiking the many paths you will have to go and find out for yourself. These cabins were built with high quality as if they were built to live in and not rental properties. Check them out at sceniccabin.com. The place is amazing- a restored house (or maybe corner store?) fitted out with amazing rooms, done in just the right mix of period and contemporary styles. There's a common sitting room with TV, which we used on the first night when we had the place to ourselves. The dining room is big enough for a big family, and there's a full kitchen which you can use for anything. We just had coffee and heated up leftovers, but it is fully equipped. So, this isn't exactly a B+B- it's BYO Breakfast or whatever- but that works for us. We don't get up for anything at 7am, even breakfast, so a typical B+B can be a waste. This way, you do things on your own schedule. The room was perfect. Comfy bed (though I don't think I would get a pillowtop myself- too poofy.) Dresser, etc., bath with separate shower and tub, everything we needed, done better than our own bed and bath. Free wifi and cable, little touches like good caramels; really, I can't think of anything missing or not up to par. Parking on a quiet side street or in a couple of spaces behind the house. The owner was very friendly, and unobtrusive. She lives nearby, and Brookville is a nice small town. A decent mix of restaurants and shops (lots of places are closed on Sunday though.) Outside, there's a bit of a smell from the Owens Corning factory down the hill, but it wasn't noticeable inside. There's a big lake nearby and a few other attractions. We went ziplining five minutes away. I heard they just did the renovation a year ago, and it is beautiful. Prices are reasonable for what you get- I think $85-120, depending on the room and the day of the week. Wish we could have stayed a week, it was so relaxing. We'll be back someday.

It was a great way to bring black women together. The space is spacious and decorated with cute up-to-date decor. The space is perfect for a bridal shower, girls meet up, baby shower, celebration party and much more. It has plenty of room for enough guest. There are multiple areas/rooms perfect for setting up products or food. They event host uses multiple tables and rooms to showcase different products. You can also have food catered and brought to the location. From the outside it does not look to be so amazing inside but it is. It looks small from the outside and is actually a little hard to find. It is located on Mt. Adams. I would highly recommend hosting your next event here!

A couple months before the event booked one of their properties to for my siblings, husband, and I to stay in after our small legal ceremony. Most of our family is in Dayton/Cincinnati so we were having a small gathering at a restaurant Mt Adams. I noticed there was a max capacity set for people to stay over but asked if a couple family members could meet there before walking up the restaurant. They said no, they regulate with a camera the people coming in and out. This was fine, we made other arrangements. ONE WEEK before our wedding they cancelled our stay. They were completely aware it was our wedding and we had even discussed possibly booking other properties with them for the weekend. When I inquired about why the stay had been cancelled they simply said they needed to make more money off of longer stays and were only offering long term stays. Cleary they only care about themselves and their personal profit. They couldn't even wait one week until after our wedding to open it up to long term stays. I understand COVID was a hard, especially for small businesses like them. However, COVID had already ruined our original wedding and then they left my out of town siblings with no where to stay. At that point ONE WEEK before the wedding there no other rentals available in Cincinnati for 6+ people. If you value people over profit like us, don't use Red Whale Rentals.

Jeb and Jen were gracious hosts who were around whenever we had a question or needed any type of assistance. We drove from Michigan and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful scenery and pool...we pretty much changed from our pjs to swimsuits and back to pjs the entire trip.
