I had a very similar experience to the person below me who posted in 2015, so it's interesting to see that not much has changed. During the onboarding process I felt like I was also spoken to like a child, and I was cut 0 slack even though I was a brand new employee who had never used any of the technology they use before or been in an ABA setting. I was also "let go" very abruptly, and the reasoning did not even remotely line up with the handbook policies. I was given nothing but positive praise from everyone but my supervisor, who I never actually met in person, and who never actually supervised any of the work I did. The company does not allow for mess-ups as you adjust to the work-flow, and leaving a session for a family emergency (like, hospital emergency) after being told it was ok literally resulted in 1/2 (I think?) of my termination. Again, super unclear why I was fired. I really enjoyed the family I worked with and a lot of the people I met, but my supervisor was the least professional and least understanding boss I've ever had - to a shocking degree. read more

This is a (psuedo) employee perspective on Arizona Autism United (AZAUnited). Here's my story... After being introduced to AZAUnited by one of the head employees of the organization, I decided I'd like to be involved in the work of AZAUnited. In a quick snapshot, they provide services to individuals with autism and their families, supporting them improve their quality of life, ultimately reaching independence. I often heard the statement "I'm trying to work myself out of a job." The organization strives to be sustainable, ultimately transitioning clients, when ready, out of services. I participated in the initial and follow-up training. I met with a client and family. Ultimately, however, my schedule wasn't very compatible with the typical timetable of AZAUnited clients and nothing came of my employment here. My biggest complaints would be two, though still pretty minor. First, in almost all interactions with those training and orienting me within the organization I consistently felt that I was being spoken to like a child. I think it's a result of the approach they use with the children seeping into their interactions with adults. While I don't think it was intentional, it felt demeaning. Second, though I won't go into detail, the way in which I was "let go" was quite abrupt. I thought we were on the same page...but then we weren't. While I don't disagree with the action, I don't feel it was appropriately communicated. Overall, I feel that AZAUnited runs an ethical, empowering organization. They are supportive of their employees and maintain a rhetoric which emphasizes the individual and working _with_ (not _on_) clients to reach goals. They strive to be educators, leaving both those receiving and providing services with tools to use. read more
