He has a great selection of polished pieces and rough petrified wood. There are large piles outside that are priced great. You can take your time looking through them or pick up some Adam has already worked. It's not the spit shined store you might find elsewhere but it's a wonderful experience after all it is a working rock shop. I spent a lot of time talking to Adam while my wife wandered around the place.

Not sure how some of these Route 66 places stay in business but I'm sure glad they do!! Rainbow…read moreRock Shop is a relic, just like the dinosaurs all around the outside! The dinosaurs are huge but then so are the piles upon piles of petrified wood and other rocks surrounding the building. I believe my husband was grateful they were closed, he seemed to relax a bit more as we strolled around the perimeter!! I definitely would have loved to get my hands on some of the fine specimens they had just laying in the dirt! Everywhere we looked it said they were open the afternoon we drove through town but unfortunately it was all locked up and no sign of anybody around. Since we found it on Roadside Attractions, we treated it as such and just enjoyed the unique dinosaurs and a chance to stretch our legs! Perhaps some day we'll return and one of the beautiful rocks will come home with me!

We ended up purchasing a whole bunch of items from the store, including sweatshirts and jars of unique jam, and it was hard not to keep finding more things to look at. The woman working as the cashier, who might also be the owner, was extremely nice and very friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The inside of the store had a very nice and relaxing vibe. It felt welcoming and comfortable, making it easy to take your time browsing through all the different items. I really liked the wide variety of products the store had to offer. There were stickers, magnets, food items, kitchen appliances, and many other things you could bring home as souvenirs from Flagstaff. The selection made it easy to find something for everyone. I would definitely go back to this store the next time I visit the town.

The girls working were so friendly, asking us where we were from and chatting up my son about the "Monster Spray" (made from a local lavender farm) we were purchasing. Some other items I picked up were a cute quote sign (Mark Twain) for my classroom, a single earring handcrafted by a local artist, a hand-drawn card, also by a local artist (will be sending this to my dad who appreciates Native American art), and a bunch of stickers to commemorate our trip through Flag (we traveled from San Diego to Durango and back, picking up stickers along the way). They also have quality mugs, carved signs (we grabbed a small one with the initial A for my sister), and even a selection of local artisan paint! So much cool local stuff--handmade jewelry, dishtowels, Flagstaff t-shirts, and more. Their displays are darling too. When we left I had to take a photo of the cute girls who provided amazing service, and the adorable bag they package your purchase in. If you are in Flagstaff and staying in the downtown area you MUST stop and browse the General Store!

We saw a vacant space, so we grabbed it. It was right in front of a cool little art shop called Sedona's Tree House. Poking your head through the door is enjoyable in and of itself. It's as if you've met up with the Ents of Fangorn Forest (The Hobbit) and have been carried into a magical treehouse dream, with a giant tree climbing up through the middle of the shop. The shelves are cleverly designed from beautifully rough cut and masterfully finished planks held up in some cases with what seem to be branches growing out from under them. Hand crafted Kokopelli wind chimes, nature inspired table and wall art, and various artsy knickknacks of all sorts are beautifully displayed throughout this cozy little treehouse-themed shop. We ended up buying a beautiful sun-themed wind chime for only $25 that we're looking forward to putting up in our courtyard when we get home!
