Honestly, five stars for their dedicated marketing. Their billboards are what drew us in, they had us in stitches - we couldn't NOT stop at this spot on our road trip. The store itself had great tourist items for purchase. Definitely stop in if you see any of these gem of billboards.

Great selection of items, including jewelry, petrified wood, rocks, minerals and Native American artifacts. Really cool shop - only thing to keep in mind is things are a bit pricey! Enjoy!

Located on the I-40, in Joseph City, Arizona - take the Geronimo/ Hunt Rd Exit. This original route 66 landmark Trading Post has been on the painted desert landscape for decades. Boasting some of the largest petrified wood pieces still in existence in the area. A pull off location on the side of road way back in the day, this trading Post sits just off the I40 at its own exit now. The standard native American "souvenirs" can be found here, along with some more traditional pieces of real artisan high end quality. Over the years, I have acquired some beautiful true native American works of art - silver, turquoise, coral, onyx, petrified wood and bead work pieces. Periodically they even have a few estate items in the back cases. As you walk into the front door way the cases immediately in front of you and rows to the left contain more of the standard issue "souvenir" stuff and cheap road side jewelry. To the right, and back are older cases which usually contain - older even vintage more traditional artisan pieces - some are not cheap in these cases - but if you are looking for real artisan pieces - look here. Great cut stone selection as well - Geodes, bookends, polished pieces, big ones, little ones - even a bulk "rock" shop out back (to the right) with bins and piles of rocks to dig around in. This is also a restroom stop, please note they will not offer the rest room to people just passing through usually - it's for shopping customers. Also, remember you're in the middle of nowhere in the desert - they have items from around a buck to in the 1000s - it's a Trading Post. 00089

This is not the typical truck stop native American gift shop. There are so many unique native art and jewelry pieces. The prices are reasonable for one of a kind items. Stop in even if you are just wanting something fun to do. There are so many things inside and out to look at. We will be stopping by everytime we travel thru.

This is the epitome of a tourist trap... Run down plywood teepee's and old wagon parts out front. With junk behind the buildings and fences. For the extra effects there are broken down cars in the parking lot giving the effect that there are many people in the store. The Petrified wood chunks out front are very cool. As you walk in the store you realize that most of the store is full of stuff made from China. The two ladies behind the counter hardly pay attention to you. Sifting through the isles searching for SOMETHING to take home as a souvenir I find a back door with poorly marked sign mentioning an outdoor area full of petrified wood. I find myself a chunk of petrified wood to take home. I don't know if the ladies are hustlers or just inexperienced. The lady keeps her hand on the scale to add extra weight. I'm leaning on suspicious since the place sells petrified wood all the time. With unlimited supplies of rock sold by the pound it seems pretty pathetic to try and cheat people for a couple extra bucks. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because of the petrified wood inside and outside of the store.

This place is pretty awesome. A great spot to take pictures near petrified trees, Teepees and old wagons located in the parking area of the Geronimo Store. Inside the store you will find Native American jewelry, arts and crafts, clothing, hats, and all kinds of unique stones, baskets and more. This place has plenty of atmosphere and charm. The clerk was friendly and this was a real treat to stop by when traveling I-40W in Holbrook, NM.

Fun store to walk through. I could have stayed a bit longer to look a little bit more, but we had places to be. My purchase, two pairs of Moccasin's. Not made by Native American's, but that's OK.

They answered my many questions and pointed me in the right direction to Moccasins where I found the kind my mother used to wear.

The dinosaurs are huge but then so are the piles upon piles of petrified wood and other rocks surrounding the building. I believe my husband was grateful they were closed, he seemed to relax a bit more as we strolled around the perimeter!! I definitely would have loved to get my hands on some of the fine specimens they had just laying in the dirt! Everywhere we looked it said they were open the afternoon we drove through town but unfortunately it was all locked up and no sign of anybody around. Since we found it on Roadside Attractions, we treated it as such and just enjoyed the unique dinosaurs and a chance to stretch our legs! Perhaps some day we'll return and one of the beautiful rocks will come home with me!

We stopped in to peruse the inventory and basically got into an argument with the crabby old guy who was manning the place. I was just curious on where they get all of their petrified wood, etc. and he told me I asked too many questions and then started to grill me on rocks and the origin of petrified wood??!! Really weird customer service. While my wife was shopping inside he followed me outside - he said he didn't trust me. Like I was going to shoplift a 100 pound rock... The more valuable stuff was inside anyway. What an old coot. Stop for the pictures and move on.

Crystal Forest is not only a private gift shop NOT associated with the National Park, but they also a campground. Check this out if you are traveling with an RV or tent because Petrified and Painted Desert do not allow camping to my knowledge. The museum is near the RV parking area. A separate, larger gift shop is on the other side of the National Park entrance. I'm a fan of this shop because they sell a variety of petrified wood that you are not allowed to take from the parks. "Then how do they get the petrified wood?" My oldest asked me. I did not inquire about this with staff members. It was so dark and I knew I would be soon approaching winter storms, so I wanted to get back on the road. Restrooms were available. Arizona is more than just the Grand Canyon and Sedona... check this area out too!

This private gift shop is not part of the national park and is located outside the south entrance. They have a really nice collection of colorful petrified wood here. It is illegal to take petrified wood from the park, so this place is a great option to purchase some. Next to the gift shop is a campground with approximately 20 spots. Most sites have sheltered picnic tables. You can camp with an RV, tent or sleep in one of their teepees. Just check with the gift shop for availability. There is no camping inside Petrified Forest National Park, so this is your best option.
