Sure there can be issues at the school, but compared to having you children in one of the fully public schools this is so much better. The public schools are glorified babysitters, they don't teach critical thinking or how to make it in life. They only teach how to graduate and make the school money. Aristoi is so much better than this. I have had 4 children attend through middle school and then go to public high school. Each one comes home saying how unprepared these kids are. Aristoi requires parents to be involved in their kids education, which is the key to children success. It is a difficult school, but worth the 10 mile drive there and back we make every day. read more

I wanted to like aristoi but every interaction i had with staff did not end well. First occurrence, we went to pick up car tags but nobody was there. There was an emergency so the lady had to leave. I let that go because accidents and emergencies happen. Second occurrence, we had issues with setting up the school cafe and was told a contact to reach out to. We reached out several times and got no response. When i called the office, i was told they received a lot of calls like this but i was the one who was the most upset. I was told my child would be fed regardless of the school cafe issue. Well guess what, he wasn't. He was eating his snack at lunch then had no snack at snack time. It took me writing the dean to finally get the issue fixed after 2 weeks. The teacher wrote a new behavior report every day. Never once did she try to contact us to create a plan on how we can work together. She would send him to recovery every single day. We then got a call to speak with the head of elementary. while on the phone, my son somehow cut his finger. THREE adults were in the room at the time and not 1 could tell me how he cut his finger. At the meeting, there was no plan on how we can work together. During the meeting, they wanted my 5 year old son to sit in a room by himself while we had our meeting. This upset me because why make a 5 year old sit in a room by himself?!? We were asked what other options we have considered. We made the decision to withdraw from aristoi. It is clear that they do not want to work with students who have a hard time transitioning. Rather than understand the student, they rather cast them away. 0/10 would never recommend. read more

I used to be a student who attended this school. I attended from kindergarten to high school junior. I switched schools as a junior due to unmet needs, bad accountability and numerous issues. Teachers can't control their students, often letting them yell and cuss and over all be horrible. They also almost never have things going on, like clubs which are lackluster and barely stick to their actual supposed club activities. Teachers often forget students in the hallways (which they send them out to when the miss things like tests so they can go over them with the class). They actually had a awful mold problem and instead of dealing with it PAINT OVER IT ALL their water system is also awful and tastes like PAINT which is awful. I struggle with anxiety and depression which they would pull me out of class to go to a seperate room to take tests which they at least did. But many teachers (at least in the past, I think some have left) handled my anxiety HORRIBLY making me have anxiety and panic attacks almost daily. The nurse, bless her, thankfully got to know me over the years and let me chill in her office when it got so bad but the fact it happened in the first place is awful. Some teachers are great! But others are horrible and I wish no one to have to have them. read more

Very good school. I am not a fan of public schools, But unfortunately I cannot afford private school. I seem to have found a happy middle with Aristoi! It is tuition free because it's a public school, but is ran much like a private school. The teachers and staff are friendly and really seem to care about the kids. There are lots of extra fun activities to keep the kids interested. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is they don't have buses. But considering it don't matter if you live outside of their district, I can understand why. One more thing, my 2nd grader reading levels were low when starting Aristoi 3 months ago. But she is improving so fast she will be on tract by the end of the year! Thank you Aristoi! read more

I find it curious that this school is considered to be "like a private school". It is indeed, not. I'm assuming the use of classical history sequence and Latin is leading to that interpretation. The scope, sequence, and curriculum that this school uses is available to all on-line at coreknowledge.org. and Memoria Press. It is based on the work of E.D. Hirsch, Jr. After much consideration, my spouse and I took a leap of faith and took our children out of private school to give this school a try. Why? We were searching for learning disability support and accommodations for one of our children. We were advised it would be available through this school. It was not. But, that was the least of the issues. The classrooms were loud and out of control on a daily basis. It became routine for teachers to lose papers, change dates for assignments and tests, and miraculously find lost papers when a complaint was e-mailed. And those lunch-time chess matches proudly posted on the website? Never happened. The children put their heads on the table after lunch, argued with each other, or sat in silence as punishment for being too loud. I've never witnessed such unprofessionalism in an academic setting or really anywhere, for that matter. Three out of the four 5th grade teachers were terminated during the 2016-2017 school year. I highly suggest visiting while classes are in session to get a real feel for the environment. read more

Aristoi is the best public charter school in Houston and surrounding areas. My only compliant is that Aristoi should have more than 1 campus. Everyone should have the opportunity for a classical education like Aristoi gives. read more

Aristoi is an amazing school that has managed to get to the roots of education on a shoestring budget. I have had students on the upper campus and lower school campus for years, and have been very happy with the teachers, friendly staff, and talented leadership. The virtues taught through books and lessons will have lasting effects on my children. The school is at an exciting time of growth and will only get better with time as clubs, classes, and sports are expanding and maturing. read more

I loved this school for my child in early elementary grades. Fourth grade my child started to change. They became more quiet and self esteem seemed to go down. They were struggling for the 1st time with their grades. They were failing class assignments. When I went to the teacher to ask about this I was told they weren't turning in class work and, therefore, were getting 0's. I asked for a copy of the work so I could at least make sure they understood the assignments ( this teacher did not believe in homework). I was told the assignments were missing. The teacher had no idea what happened to them. There were about 4 occassions where the assignments magically appeared and were graded. The teacher also began curving test scores stating the whole class didn't perform well. They also sometimes changed test grades to quiz grades because of low scoring. This really began to worry me. I would think at this time maybe homework would beneficial but no. The teacher did not like homework. Classic literature involved the teacher reading a book to them in class and then giving them an open book test. This was another thing I found odd. What is the point of teaching classical literature if the kids aren't really reading it? We decided to leave the school. Hopefully as this school grows they will spend some funds on online resources. It would have been very helpful to have a school website with homework and courses outlined. This way parents could stay in the loop to what their kids are doing. read more
