If you need a medical bed or wheelchair they can help coordinate. If you need to move they have a liaison that would work with your to help bring furniture to their place for design. And also helping thin out belongings . Optional. You can eat in your room. Staff has 24 hour care and shifts with RNs, CNs, LPNs, mgmt director social worker, sales, care coordinator. The facility has indoor parking, handicap too, there is security with locked doors so people cannot get in after a certain hour . There are cameras. There is restaurant quality restaurants, a number of places to eat, depending on if you are assisted living or independent living. And there is a gorgeous rooftop spacious area with loungers and chairs and outdoor furniture with a gorgeous view of downtown Chicago if you want a cocktail. The rooftop is open but w a ceiling. And then there is a facility up top where you can also rent if you have a party. Wall to wall windows. And there's a bar area. There is a large movie theater. There is a beauty salon and they do massages. There is a physical therapy room and physical therapists can work with you depending on your needs. Medicare coordinated. There is a church nearby and walking distance. There are a ton of activities listed on the wall that are going on every single day. They are posted also in the elevator. And you can receive a copy. Every assisted living resident wears alert necklaces around their neck and when you press it, it sends a message to the staff or the nurse in short order to come to your room if there's something urgent or an escort needed. This is not skilled nursing, but it has a lot of features in the plus care category that would meet the needs of most people in their golden years. If you are flat on your back and convalescing, you probably should be in skilled nursing. But that is not the energy or aura of American House. It's a breath of fresh air with senior living to end of life. There's absolutely nothing American House couldn't provide to probably 99% of people. I was very impressed. There is also a grocery store being built across the street. There's parking in front of the building that it's very spacious. If you have to unload a wheelchair. The front door is automatic. It's a building that takes up a full block. It is clean, and the residents are very friendly, and the staff is very friendly. The price point is appropriate and will not break the bank. There are tailored approaches. And it's in Oak Park, which is a lovely community, very diverse w restaurants and parks, and very close to the city. They provide transportation within 8 miles for free. Or rather as part of your monthly rent. This is a month-to-month rental. With a minor down payment. There is also outdoor space in the courtyard and umbrella tables and a bar and a cooking grill. And there's also small gardening with people who may plant vegetables or flowers. The rooms are very modern and comfortable, and there is no stove, but there is a microwave and a sink and stainless steel refrigerator appliances. The rooms are hardwood floors and tall windows. Lots of light. Good views. The windows do not open for safety. The rooms are carpeted. No bath tubs. Walk in showers. And the closet space is huge. The doorways are wide for wheelchairs. You can decorate it the way you like. Utilities are included. You can get a landline separate. But most people have cells. Parking is extra. You are a couple blocks from Rush Hospital. Again great facility. Mary P. is a tremendous asset to American House and is very thorough in her explanations of the offerings of the facility. Subject matter expert, she is great listener. In the assisted living area, some people do put up their names outside their door, but it's like an apartment. And very private. So your doors are not open like a nursing home. And there's a number of areas with televisions and there is a piano, and coffee bar on the first floor. Books to read, games, social schedules. Wonderful, spacious, clean, I give it five stars.

My mother at the age of 93 needed an assisted living facility after being released from the hospital (following a fall inside a Wal-Mart store). In my quest to find such a facility, I had explored several and The Scottish Home (now known as Caledonia Senior Living) was an immediate standout. What are the special amenities? The first attribute you notice when you approach the outside of the building is the peaceful serenity that you experience from the feeling that the property is nestled within Cook County Forest Preserve, along with the beautiful flowers adorning the building's entrance. Once inside, you can sense a warm and cozy feeling from the layout and what appears to be an expensive Scottish plaid carpeting. The building is a well-built structure with both air conditioning for the summer and hot water heat for the winter. Hot water heat is far more comfortable than gas forced-air heat, since it provides a even heat which is both moist and quiet, while it doesn't create any negative air pressure. Conversely, gas forced-air heat produces a blowy, dry heat with negative air pressure that invites the cold outside higher pressured air to invade into the heated space that in turn creates cold spots (besides the gas forced-air heat has to travel through heating ducts that can cause allergy problems). The food is extraordinarily and is served on china alongside crystal glasses (besides the china cups for the tea and/or coffee). The management and the staff are very outgoing, friendly and professional. The staff has quite a few members who are long-termed employees, which is a testament to the working environment, along with the good relationship they apparently enjoy with management. There are a number of private rooms (with a view of the forest preserve) available in the Scottish Home, which was the one selected by my mother, together with the adjoining private bathroom. There are numerous activities including games, discussion groups, arts and crafts, outside entertainment, light exercise programs (even a weekly bible studies class, for those interested). Every Sunday includes a Catholic Mass along with a Non-Denominational Christian Service. Overall, I couldn't be happier with our decision in selecting The Scottish Home (now known as Caledonia Senior Living)!

While I could not be present in person due to work obligations, I called in during the assessment to ensure I could provide support. My father answered the nurse's questions to the best of his ability, and there were no indications of issues at that time. Following the assessment, Lisa informed me that an internal review would be conducted. Today, after sending a brief follow-up text to Lisa, I received a call from your Assistant Director. During this call, I was shocked by the tone and manner in which I was addressed. I was told, in a very agitated and dismissive way, that my father would be better suited for another facility, with no further explanation. When I pressed politely for clarification, I was refused any details, spoken to in a disrespectful and aggressive manner, and ultimately hung up on. This behavior is unacceptable from any staff member, let alone someone in a leadership position. My questions were reasonable: I simply wanted to understand why there had been a sudden change after positive earlier interactions. Instead, I was treated with hostility and given no professional courtesy. I am deeply concerned that the treatment my father and I received may have been influenced by bias. As an African American family, it is difficult not to draw this conclusion when no substantive explanation was provided for such abrupt and disrespectful behavior. While I understand if their team ultimately determines that Brookdale Oak Park is not the right fit for my father, there is no justification for unprofessional and dismissive treatment. Families seeking care for their loved ones deserve transparent communication, respect, and courtesy.

A few years ago I grew increasingly worried about my mom's safety at home and started to…read morecontemplate senior and assisted living options and dreading having the tough conversation with her. My mom was averse to anything that had the word senior in it already. A serious health event accelerated my plans and I had no choice, but to force the decision and move her to Brookdale. Much of the up front decision-making was done by me. Of the options in the area, I preferred the layout, amenities and that there were both independent and assisted living options. I had tons of questions and they answered all of them, they also visited my mom in the hospital to talk about Brookdale and introduce themselves. My mom didn't like being there, to say she was downright disagreeable her first few weeks is being generous. Over time she slowly adjusted. When Covid hit, I was terrified and relieved all at once. Terrified because senior living communities were getting hit hard, relieved because I knew there would people to help her no matter what. They had strict protocols and regular updates, which I'm sure every family member greatly appreciated. When we had issues getting PPE for her medical condition, they were able to help us out. They even had staff on hand that could facilitate virtual meetings. Not seeing her for months at a time was hard, but they did their best. Over time, my mom came to adore members of the staff and they were saying great things about her (even though I knew she could be quite difficult). I'm not going to dress it up, senior living isn't cheap and assisted living is stupid expensive. Seriously, like make you nauseous every time you get the bill expensive. That said, the peace of mind knowing that she was safe and looked after was priceless. Even as my mom's health declined and she moved into hospice (they do that too), the staff was kind, compassionate, and informative.

My mother stayed there from November 2021 until February 2023. We were promised the world when given a tour - the best food, best care, night motion detectors in case they get up at night, call button watches in case they need help, the works! Everything ended up being a catastrophic failure which was a combination of true neglect, staff turnover, overpromising, and lack of problem solving from upper management. Staff would take hours to answer a call alert. That means if your loved one falls off the toilet and presses their watch or the wall string, they could bleed out and never be helped. The excuse was that assisted living alerts were clogging the phones of memory care staff phones, but they never tried to figure it out, or we were told their phones were dead. I constantly had to go get staff if my Mom needed to be changed, or just end up doing it myself if I couldnt find anyone. If your loved ones medications change or they have a lot of meds, make sure to be on top of the staff. There were countless issues with getting the proper meds were I had to go home and grab backup meds when they werent able to fill critical meds properly. Neglect and lies from the nursing staff. i was called one day to be told my mom had fallen but they went through protocol and she was fine. Much to my horror, the ring camera I had in her room showed the fall, two caregivers helping her up and tossing her back on the bed. The nurse never came to do an exam. My mom clearly was shaken up from the fall as she was barely responsive and all the nurse ended up doing was trying to shove pills down my moms throat as she could barely hold herself up. I am crying as I write this thinking about how neglectful this was. I showed the video to the executive director and it was just a shrug. They terminated the Nurse but nothing else was done or changed with protocol. The food portions were abysmal. if you didnt make it to the diner, which my mom didnt because the stroke she suffered caused her to be fearful of being out in the main room, you would be left with the smallest portions. And despite the fact it was known my Mom had trouble feeding herself, they would just leave the food with her and I would come and just see a cold dinner and her not having eaten. The turnover in staff using outside agencies meant that either staff didnt care about their job or they didnt know the personalities and needs of the residents. There were times staff would sit my mom on the toilet and then say they would be right back and leave here sitting on the toilet for 30 minutes - as a fall risk that was absolutely unacceptable. I could go on and on but it was just absolutely awful. There was no way I could sleep at night or take a day off with so much going wrong all the time. There were attempts to create updated plans for her but they were never followed through due to staff turnover or just lack of follow through. Dont let the nice facade of the building and main lobby fool you when it comes to their memory care. Additionally, multiple management members cursed me out when all I was trying to do was ensure my Mom was getting the care promised.

The Wye Valley building seems comfortable enough but there are some glaring issues. 1) The meals are not very healthy or satisfying. For the price that is paid, I would expect fresher food, more variety, more flavor (I have eaten there myself a few times.) More importantly, the meals don't seem to follow appropriate dietary guidelines for seniors with health issues, i.e. most seniors. There was a brief period when the staff had a dietician that was making a real effort to make sure the food was tasty, well presented and appropriately nutritional for the individuals. But now, the food is not very good. My mother tells me about other residents complaining about the food, but are afraid to speak up. 2) The second elevator has been inoperable for months, because of needed repairs. However, and this is on Brookfield, an inspection has not yet been completed, it seems like it's been out of service most of the year. 3) Although the building is for independent living, seniors still need support and stimulation. There is a small game room and a room with an exercise bike. The staff I have encountered do well with the resources they have, but it seems like more interactive activities could be added - things that are a little more engaging and lively - that would be appropriate for an independent living situation.

Plymouth Place is located right off of LaGrange Road, just north of Ogden Avenue so if your loved one can still walk, drive, etc. there is plenty of stuff right outside the doors. Lovely grounds. My dad's unit overlooked a very pretty and spacious courtyard with lots of seating in the sun and shade. All meals were included and I have to say the quality was excellent. The common areas here have beautiful artwork, antique furnishings and fresh flowers in many places. This is not your average retirement/assisting living facility. Light years beyond what you probably remember visiting your grandparents in when you were a kid!

For this reason, I was curious about their plan to build a series of new condominiums/townhomes. I was invited to attend a presentation geared for folks looking to become future residents. My interest was limited to the history and background of Plymouth since it goes back more than 80 years. The Marketing Manager was extremely rude to me after she found out that I was not looking to become a resident but simply interested in the development of the property as an adjacent homeowner. She accused my of being 'adversarial and antagonistic'. She began shouting at me and became combative. I became very uncomfortable and left in disbelief at how I'd been treated. A friend of mine, who recently moved to nearby Bethlehem Woods had investigated looking into Plymouth Place and had a similar experience with the same woman, so much so that it turned her off from looking any further into being a prospective resident. I honestly don't understand how this person got her job or keeps it as she has experience in senior living and care going back over 20 years. If it weren't for this unwelcome and hostile reception, I would have given Plymouth at least four if not five stars.

Understaffed, over booked and always hiring. Never go here to get a job. The 1 lady in charge of new hires is sloppy, slow and brain-addled. It took 3 weeks of sending, resending and resending the same paperwork via email to this lady because she keeps misplacing it? Not checking her spam folder? I have no idea. I went in for "orientation" and she handed me someone else's new hire paperwork to sign. She couldn't be bothered to read the name on the file? Then they send you to Oak Brook for fingerprinting. The lady who works there is sloppy, too. My fingerprints were rejected because she rushed through the process. I finally called after 3 weeks of waiting for Addus to get their stuff together and was like, "I am withdrawing my application". Two weeks later, the manager calls and asks if I'm ready to get a client. I told her that I told the other lady that I withdrew my application. She didn't even bother to tell the main manager that she lost an employee?! Also, if you don't have a car, you'll be put on a waiting list for clients. Total trash agency. Also, I was told during the self-led online training that they will call your client randomly and randomly visit your client's home. Also, if they are sick or there is a change in your client medically, they demand that you call them and tell them immediately. Have these people ever heard of HIPAA laws? Your first call is to your doctor or an ambulance- not to Addus!! They are NOT licensed medical professionals!! Don't do it!! In fact, she placed me on hold for 90 minutes at the end of her workday then completely ignored my emails when I tried to follow up with her. I feel as though they took our personal information for nothing and I would never refer their services to anyone. This has been a horrible experience. They are clearly overwhelmed with their workload and aren't able to provide proper effort to assist their clients.
