Wonderful attentive service. Made to feel at home. The staff made the arduous journey well worth the effort it took to get there!

We stayed at Roan Cottage for a week in August 2012, as a family group of 6. It's the best…read moreself-catering accommodation we've ever stayed in! beautifully fitted out, with high quality new kitchen, bathroom & en-suite shower room. It was also newly decorated, so felt close to staying in a new house, and was very clean on arrival. We were met by the owners, who were friendly & helpful. There is a thorough welcome pack, with all the info you need. It's located on the south western tip of Mull, about 4 miles from Iona, so is a great base to explore Iona, crossing by ferry from Fionnephort (sp?). Local shop is 10-15 mins walk away in Bunnessan (hilly, so quite steep walking back), where there is also a fairly basic pub/hotel, but we found there food was very tasty not an exciting menu, but what they did was done well. Really surprised that locally caught fish is not more widely available! So we sent my nephew down to the jetty nearby with a fishing rod, and he brought back a mackerel, which we had for a starter before lunch! Doesn't come fresher than that!!! Overall we found this a very tranquil place to have a complete rest, close to nature. Lots of places to explore, and ideal for long walks/hikes/cycling/jogging, etc. Some stunning scenery of course. Roan Cottage is out of range for mobiles we found, but we could get a clear Orange signal about 100 yards up the road (walking West, towards Fionnephort) next to a roadsign. So you can wander up there any time you need to make calls/texts. It's just a weird hotspot, with no signal anywhere nearby except this one spot! What was also brilliant is that Roan Cottage has WiFi, which we found marvellous. So self-employed people like us can keep fully up-to-date with work in the evenings, and enjoy the island during the day. It's a very spacious & comfortable cottage, beautifully fitted out. Absolutely delighted with Roan Cottage, and I recommend it 100% to anyone looking for a smart and comfortable place to stay on Mull. We paid 650 for a week, plus electricity (about 12), which we think is excellent value. Thanks to Rob & Angela, the owners.

HARRY POTTER FANS, listen up: This hotel is WALKING DISTANCE from the Harry Potter Bridge here in Glenfinnan. You know the one. FLying car, chamber of secrets, Hogwarts express? Yeah, that's right!! NOT ONLY THAT, but it is right on Lock Shiel which, in addition to being absolutely stunning, is the lake that Hogwarts is on. Compare pictures to this lake to photos from the second task(mermaids) from Goblet of Fire....you will SCREAM! Enough about Harry Potter. This hotel is quaint, homey, and incredibly warm and lively. The entire staff goes above and beyond to make sure that your needs and desires are met. From the included breakfast every morning to the offering of packed lunches for your daily hikes the team here is a cut above the rest. The rooms are large with beautifully updated, modern washrooms and showers. The tea kettles and assortment of coffee and teas(in room) are brilliant and the perfect touch. The main dining area/restaurant is delicious with terrific daily specials. The bar area/casual dining area is just as great and features traditional, Scottish, live music some nights. This place will remain at the TOP of my list not only for myself but for recommendations to anyone that may ask. Thank you to the brilliant team behind this beautiful hotel.

    Islay House - Living Room

LONG, HONEST REVIEW- TLDR, this place is a SCAM and you should spend your hard-earned money…read moreelsewhere. Any positive reviews of this place have to be falsified or are from before the property was repurchased. AVOID IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY. We booked 3 rooms at the Islay House in October 2025. It was an expensive booking, which is to be expected given there are very few accommodations in Bridgend and on Islay. Before we checked in, there was a large storm that unfortunately interrupted shipping of gas (necessary for heating) to Islay, which I understand is completely out of their control. However, this resulted in us having NO HEAT and NO HOT WATER for the duration of our stay. Normally, I would write this off and shrug, because it happens. Why the one star review? Because the staff INTENTIONALLY did not disclose to us that there was no hot water at check in, and that we would not have hot water or heat for the duration of our stay. Again, TERRIBLE customer service, but maybe not even worth a review. We were REPEATEDLY assured by staff that we would get a partial refund. REPEATEDLY. We made the reservation through Booking.com so they said we had to file the request through Booking. I asked the staff REPEATEDLY to put this in writing (to ensure an agreement regarding a refund), which they assured me they would do. I had a really nasty feeling that they would not do it but eventually we had to leave for the ferry so we hoped against hope they would do the right thing. We filed the complaint with Booking 10 days ago, and just received word that "we could not come to an agreement with the property regarding a refund", so we are getting nothing back. Absolutely disgraceful and completely disrespectful. I wish I could leave a positive review because there were positives of this property, however such blatant and disgusting SCAMS deserve nothing more than 1 star. Book at your own risk. Will update review if anything changes.

The wonderful experience started even before we arrived. Their pre-arrival communications assured us our upcoming stay was in the best hands...and upon arriving, we quickly learned that the accommodations, culinary experiences, and Islay insights for all our local day trips would be world class; and, they were!!! Glenegedale House is such a cozy, inviting house, exceptionally well-appointed throughout, including the wonderful bedrooms that inspired us with a real sense of tranquility. Glenegedale is also surrounded by the stunning natural beauty of Islay. Graham and Emma are excellent chefs and each meal was a culinary masterpiece...incorporating fresh-caught seafood, other locally-produced foods, and Islay's amber elixirs into an amazing experience. From Graham's special Islay porridge, to the seafood platter that included scallops someone on Islay dove for that day...Graham and Emma make each guest feel extra special. We will never forget the presentation and the deliciousness of each meal. Their knowledge of Islay and their deep relationships across the island, also added to our visits to historic sites, distilleries, and craft shops. We amended some of our itinerary, based on their insights and we're so glad we did. They've given us a much better appreciation for the island and the people of Islay. This was an extraordinary experience because of our stay at Glenegedale House. We give Glenegadelle House (Emma and Graeme) our highest recommendation and will definitely be back as soon as possible.
