I have been going to Argonaut for about five years, frequently and regularly. I was referred by an attorney who wears expensive dress clothes every day, who said they were reliable and trustworthy, so I decided to stick with them, and I haven't been sorry I did.
They do a good job with shirts and pants. Sometimes they charge a little more than I expect for specialty item (overcoats, sport coats) but in general I think the pricing is reasonable and you can always ask ahead of time.
Their track record with me is positive. Clothing items come back to me in the condition I specify, including starch levels, etc. At Argonaut I have very rarely had anything about which to raise my eyebrows over. Isn't that what you look for in a cleaner? I am routinely thrilled by the service quality, and absence of clothing damage. Once I think a button broke off of my shirt, but it was an old shirt and I think it was just that button's time to go.
As I mentioned, the service is excellent. In the beginning, after I had only been a return customer a handful of times, she recognized my face, knew my name, and knew off the top of her head which (nondescript, normal men's dress) clothes were mine. I found that impressive. That was years ago.
WORD TO THE WISE REGARDING DRESS SHIRTS:
These two things are the main reasons I removed one star from the score.
First, Argonaut _will_ mark your surname in your shirts. They do this on the front shirttail, on the inside seam. Admittedly, that they didn't warn me about this practice is arguably unprofessional. But I have never had a situation in which that part of my shirt was noticeably showing, even when I wear my shirts loose, untucked, and unbuttoned. To me it's irrelevant that they do that. I noticed the other reviews on here declaim it, but I DON'T SEE WHAT THE BIG DEAL IS. It's the inconspicuous part of the shirt where you would normally test a detergent or stain remover. As you may surmise from the other reviews here, that is the only notable drawback to Argonaut.
A second (and far lesser) concern: do make sure to remove your collar supports before dropping off your dress shirts. The owners/staff tend to have poor memories about keeping/replacing these.
I have no problem recommending this as as a reliable, honest, eager-to-please service sector small business. read more
