Dropped my wallet as I was getting out of an Arecibo taxi. I realised literally as the car drove off and called dispatch straight away. There is no way another passenger would have got in within that 1 minute window and taken it. Here's the thing: I had my iPhone in there and I was tracking it the whole time. The car company denied the driver had it. We asked him to come back, offered him 200 dollars to return it- the works. No dice. All the while we tracked the phone from the car to a location in Sunset Park. The police weren't helpful. But Arecibo? NOT TO BE TRUSTED!!!!! read more

Completely unreliable and unprofessional! Drivers are typically on the phone, and one even had a movie running on his phone. My driver to the airport did not adhere to traffics laws and sped on streets that were not expressways. For the return trip the car did not even show up. I called several times and kept being told that they were on the way and were already at the airport. Eventually, I got in a cab. I hope I never have reason to use this car service again. read more

Always been on time, cars are clean, friendly drivers at a good price. They get my five stars since most car service companies in NYC have none of these qualities. read more

I've lived in Park Slope for 10 years. Arecibo is inconsistent, like every other car service in the area, sadly. - The phone operators may pick up in seconds or never. - If they don't pick up the phone, you may get an answering machine or a fax beep. - If they answer they may dispatch a car for you in 5 minutes or never. - If the car comes to you, it may be there, or it may be in a completely different address. - If the car actually picks you up, you may get a respectful driver, or a cursing, foulmouthed jerk. Today, my girlfriend, who is in crutches after an accident, called Arecibo at 7.30am to request a car for 8.00am, in order to catch an 8.30am train in Atlantic Terminal. The driver called at 8.15 revealing that he was lost. He received instructions and never arrived, anyway. By 8.20 we managed to find a miraculous yellow cab. The Arecibo driver never arrived. The only solution regarding car services in this area is to ask Consumer Affairs to conduct an audit of practices. The situation is simply unacceptable. read more

Jose was right on time to pick me up and take me to JFK. The car was clean and well taken care of, and he charged the standard fare ($38, compared to the $55 I paid using Lyft on the way from the airport). I will definitely use this service the next time I'm in New York! read more

Use them 3-4 times a week. My wife (used to) takes them to Manhattan regularly.. Last week she got a "green cab"--small dirty, smelled, driver partition gave you no leg room. She complained to dispatch. I called shortly thereafter and complained as well---"we'll mark your records No Green Cab" they say. Today she calls for a car--a dirty green cab shows up again. Knees hitting the partition. She calls to complain again. Not even a word of "sorry" from dispatch. We can get a dirty green cab anytime by just walking out our front door. Who would order one?? Time to put the Uber app on my wife's phone. I warned you last week Uber. Since you don't care--you lose. read more

DO NOT USE!!! I reserved a car around 2pm for an 11pm pickup to get my family home from an event on Coney Island to midtown Manhattan. Very clearly specified our need for an infant car seat. Driver arrives with NO CAR SEAT! Proceeds to say, you have baby, you bring car seat. For a company that target markets families, this is beyond unacceptable. We were left standing in the streets for a full 45 minutes (despite being told 15-20) for a car with the proper child seat. When contacted the next day, in an effort to avoid having to write this miserable review, I was met with a total lack of sincerity and offered to "waive the car seat fee ($5) on a future ride". Absurd. If you value your families safety and are looking for a business that does the same, I urge you to find another alternative. read more

I have used Arecibo a few times to get to the airport. I have always been impressed by their punctuality and professionalism. Prices are pretty fair too. I just took my newborn on a trip for the first time and didn't know the best way to get to the airport with an infant. I was really pleasantly surprised that Arecibo had infant carseats and that Mario was really professional and cared a lot about safety when taking us to and from the airport recently! read more

After a trip back to Prospect Heights from the wilds of New Jersey I thought I'd lost my laptop--FREAK OUT! While I was panicking, I missed a call from Arecibo driver Chris, who had found my laptop bag and was keeping it safe and sound in the car. By the time I called him back he was all the way out at the airport, but he drove through the pouring rain and delivered the bag back to my doorstep within an hour and a half. BONUS: Arecibo has yet to decline to take my pet. "Doggy? No problem." Only slight bummer: they sometimes take longer to come than their estimated time. read more

Used them before. Okay service. Called them today at 4:20pm. I was at Banfield Pet Hospital (at Petsmart) on Atlantic Ave. j was with my sick dog (Aricebo allows dogs). They said a car will be there in 5 minutes. 50 minutes and 6 phone calls later no one ever showed up! The worst part? I called them twice to inquire and they put me on hold and never picked up the phone again! I called one last time and the operator told me that no one is interested in picking me up. What?!?! I told him that he could have told me that 45 minutes ago and how unprofessional they were. My poor sick dog had to sit out in the cold and ended this! Will never call them again! read more

On Sunday 10/2 we needed to get from Lincoln Place to Laguardia at 4:30 in the afternoon. I called. They said 5-7 minutes. After 20 minutes, I called again. They said 2-3 minutes. After a total of 35 minutes, we had to jump into an Uber. As far as I know ARECIBO NEVER SHOWED!!! And there was no communication to indicate they would be late. Certain no call or text to indicate they were sorry. No nothing! I probably will not be using them again. read more

Like other commenters here, on 12/22/17 I was quoted one price by the dispatcher and then the driver up-charged me by $25 once we reached the airport. I would have saved money by calling an Uber or a Lyft and I would have gotten there in a clean vehicle. I will never use Arecibo again. read more

I recently switched from another local car service (that I won't name here), and haven't looked back. The dispatchers are always friendly, same with the drivers. And helpful too. The cars always arrive when they say they will. Arecibo is a great car service. read more

last year, i took this rinky dink mini-bus - think chinatown but much, MUCH smaller - to visit my b fri at PSU. after the driver's third ciggie, i couldn't take it anymore. so, i did what any other rational woman would do ... i told him i was preggers so he'd stop. one hour later, he lit up again. bitch. HOWEVER, when i told my smoking driver from arecibo that i was with child, he immediately threw his ciggie out. now, that's quality service. but they're inconsistent. please note that they ALWAYS say 5 minutes, but it's more like 15 to 20. and, they get lost ... a lot. it's no fun waiting for a car at 3AM on the corner of drunk and drunker ... alone. nonetheless, three stars for not endangering the life of my unborn (perhaps fictional?) child. read more

I KNOW you've blacklisted me because of a coupla no shows I had. But I apologized! And now, any time I call, you say you're coming and you don't, or you just don't answer the phone at all. Eye for an eye, huh? Well eff you! I love New Bell now anyway. I barely remember you. read more

Well, against my better judgment, I used Arecibo again. Hell, I'm in the car right now getting home. Yes, they came quickly. But I've been in the car for 45 minutes, there was someone in the passenger seat who I expect was/is a relative, and they have been loudly talking the entire time. Fifteen minutes in, he gets a phone call and proceeds to talk insanely loudly on the phone for the duration of the car ride, with the woman on speakerphone. Look--I am not paying to listen to someone yell over speakerphone for nearly an hour. Three strikes and you're out, Arecibo. Never using you again. read more

Yesterday I saw Arecibo car #145 speeding down Underhill Avenue at nearly fifty miles an hour. After I asked him to slow down, he gave me the finger and sped off. Typical, given that Arecibo drivers are consistently the worst, least respectful drivers in Brooklyn. read more

we needed to get from red hook to greenpoint and i'll be damned if my fat ass was gonna walk to whatever train i had to walk to to make that happen. our friend called arecibo for us and the guy shows up in a spacious minivan about 5 minutes later. he was friendly and laid back and was totally ok with our 3 stops. great job! read more

Good prices but horrible service. Guys answering phones always give you attitude. They hang up before you can speak. They always say 5 min before checking to see.if any cars are even available. Therefore taking longer than 5 min to arrive. They don't call you to let you know your car is downstairs when it arrives. I wonder if the owners even care. Just horrible. Simplemente horrible. Precios bajos pero muy mal servicio. Quien sabe donde estan los propetarios y si les importa. read more

Possibly one of the most unprofessional companies I have dealt with. Had a scheduled pickup at 4:40AM for a 6AM flight. Upon arrival at the airport, the driver tells me there is a $3 credit card fee. I vaguely thought the website said no credit card fees, but it was early and I had a flight to catch. Pay by credit card, and ask for a receipt. Driver tells me he emailed it, and shows me his screen which shows an email sent. Upon landing later that morning, I see I have not received my receipt. I call, and the person who answers the phone tells me I will have it "later that afternoon". Next day comes, still no receipt sent. I speak with Kevin (who was actually the only nice and competent person I dealt with), and he apologizes, says he will find out the issue and call back. He calls back a few hours later and tells me to send an email requesting a receipt, with details of the trip (pickup location and time, dropoff location) and I will have a receipt in 5 minutes. I email. 4 hours later, I email again. No receipt. Next day comes. I call, speak to Johanna. She recognizes my name, says she has my receipt, will send out by noon. I ask her about the credit card fee. She claims there is no fee if I call and give my credit card in advance, but there is a fee if I pay the driver with a credit card. I tell her what the website says, and that it is misleading and deceptive. She doesn't seem to care. Noon comes, no receipt. I call again, speak to Kevin, he remembers me. Says my receipt should have been sent. Nope. "Unbelievable. I told her to send it to you yesterday." Kevin admits this is "unprofessional", and says he will make sure it gets sent out. Next day comes - that's 3 days later. Still no receipt. I call, get someone in billing. Ask for my receipt. No sign of it. Woman I speak to finds my emails - and says I didn't include the total cost, so she can't get a receipt. I inform her that she should know how much the company charged me, because that is the point of the receipt. She gets argumentative. I tell her she has until noon to send me a receipt of I will file a complaint with TLC. She says "ok" and hangs up on me. I was charged a fee the website claims I will not be charged, I was not provided a receipt (after asking over 5 times), and I was treated horribly (except by Kevin - he was a nice guy and I think tried to help). Deceptive business practices, incompetent record keeping, and unprofessional customer service. Never again will I use Arecibo. read more

Once the car finally arrived, we got to the airport uneventfully, and the driver was polite and friendly, if unfortunately drenched in some truly awful cologne. Also, the car door lacked that mechanism that stops it from bashing into you, so yeah, it bashed into me. That didn't feel good at all. Won't use them again. Sticking with über. read more

Writing this while I wait for a different car service to come pick me up. A friend of mine recommended them, and the first time I called they were OK. Every time after that has been an unmitigated disaster. They don't answer their phone consistently, their drivers show up late or pick up other people instead of you, and they don't know their way around the city very well at all. Look elsewhere. Do not use this cab company. read more

If you enjoy having a heart attack in the morning, wondering where the fuck your car is, then BY ALL MEANS, call Arecibo Car Service. My husband was leaving town for work, flying out of Newark, and he had a double flight connection. As a precautionary measure, I called Arecibo the night before to arrange a 9AM pickup the following morning. The guy barely let me get a word in edgewise when I was trying to confirm the pickup time and address. He talked over me with a, "Yeah yeah yeah, we got it, we got it." Well, they didn't get it. The car finally showed up 20 minutes later. I'm sorry, but giving ample notice for what was clearly an airport run requires only one thing - BE ON TIME. Maybe it's okay if you're coming home from a party or leaving a bar - a 20-minute wait might not be such a big deal, but NOT when you have to catch a flight in the morning. I should have double-checked yelp before I booked with them. I echo Sean A.'s woes in the customer service department as well. Trying to get someone on the phone to check on the status of our car was a nightmare. Twice, it just rang and rang for what seemed to be an eternity. Finally an automated voice picked up. But then I was on hold for 5 minutes. The driver never apologized or acknowledged the fact he was late. He, or someone from dispatch, should have called us to let us know that he was not going to be on time. Save yourself the headache, hassle and heart attack and FIND ANOTHER car service. DO NOT use Arecibo, ESPECIALLY if time is of the essence! read more

I have a friend who uses Arecibo constantly, but I am not sure how this is possible. Firstly, every time I have called, no one answers the phone. EVER. Today was the first time that anyone picked up. The only reason I called today was to find out if my online reservation went through. Apparently, it did not. The operator revealed that the website reservation system does not actually work. When I then attempted to make a reservation, I was advised to just find one of their car at LGA. (No specific location given.) I'd rather pay Carmel the $13 extra because I know they will show. Hell, the gypsy cabs outside Atlantic Terminal are better bets than Arecibo. This company is a waste of time, and based on the reviews here, a rip off. read more

Under ordinary circumstances, I've had pretty good luck with Arecibo -- they answer the phone instead of letting it just ring, they almost always say they're 5-10 minutes away and they're almost always right. But during the crazy busy dead-stop lines at LaGuardia after the January 2016 blizzard, Arecibo became my hero! I landed at LaGuardia just days after two feet of snow fell canceling every flight in or out, and walked outside to find the longest line for taxis I've ever seen and zero cabs actually taking people home. Several people in line tried to get an Uber, but had their drivers cancel when apparently police had barricaded the entrance to the airport and weren't letting any cars in. So there we all stood, outside in the cold, approaching midnight, the line growing longer and only the occasional cab or two trickling in. As a Hail Mary, I called Arecibo and asked if they could send a car to LaGuardia. I expected to hear "no." 10 minutes, the dispatcher said, the driver will call you when he's there. I watched my phone, 10 minutes passed, then 15 ... and then he called! He was at the airport. We played a difficult game of Marco Polo to find each other in the chaos. I don't know how he got through the gridlock. It frankly doesn't matter. I climbed into a plush black SUV that whisked me home in less time than I think the ride home from LaGuardia has ever taken. Where Uber failed others, Arecibo got it done. I might still be in that line if not for that rock star driver -- who by the way, had already been stuck in a three-hour traffic jam headed to LGA earlier that day, and he was still game to try it again. read more

Needed a ride to LaGuardia last week and used these guys. Didn't have to wait long -- the car arrived about 5 minutes after agreed pick-up time. It was a relatively cheap ride too -- around $20 from South Williamsburg. It was a little hard communicating with the guy on the phone, but I mostly just care about the ride and could care less about the rest. I plan to use them again in the future. read more

I like how professional they are on the phone. I like that they call in the morning to confirm pickup. I like that my driver had a friendly but not chatty demeanor. They seem reliable which makes up for the mild price hike read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for years and, these days, Arecibo is the only service I'll use. Many other services would tell me "five minutes," irrespective of ow long it would take a car to show. Never a problem with Arecibo. (I should mention here that I;m not just speaking for myself; as a massage therapist, I've seen numerous clients wait outside my office after calling other services). Plus, their cars are always clean and comfortable, and 90% of the time, their drivers relaxed and friendly. read more

We recently switched over to Arecibo Car Service as well and we love these guys! They are safe, prompt, and efficient and they care for ALL of their customers. We would give them seven stars if we could. They top taxi services in the area, especially that of Brooklyn Car Service, which treats its customers like a monopoly. read more

They said 5 minutes, but took closer to 20. Fair enough, the price was steeper than a cab, but altogether not unreasonable. The driver was friendly and somewhat chatty;. however, he got me home safely and quickly. Even though they're a Brooklyn Based car service, they took me to Astoria with not even a word about it. so, I would recommend them for sure. I did love their trademark "five minutes." After 20 when I didn't see the car, I called them and asked where the car was, and they said "oh, he's close. five minutes." read more

Do NOT use this service!!! Ever!!! Unreliable, expensive and the guys in the office are rude assholes. Rather use Pratt. They rock!!!

Don't do it! Ordered a taxi to JFK, dispatch called me to tell me the car was waiting outside, it was not (by a long shot) and I got stuck waiting outside in the snow for almost 30 minutes. They of course did not pick up any of the 836262483 times I tried to call. We managed to hit the rush hour traffic I was trying to avoid, and I almost missed my flight. This taxi service fails even the most basic expectations, so unless that somehow doesn't matter to you, don't use them. read more

They may or may not show up if you call. Definitely don't make a reservation that's a guarantee that no one will pick you up. My reservation was a no show and when I called no one came for another 30 minutes. I'm late for my trip to the airport. I hope I make my flight! read more

I am writing this review from a taxi en route to the airport that was 35 mins late, even though we scheduled it hours earlier. After calling ten times this cab finally showed up. When we called for a discount the manager argued with us and finally offered 5 dollars, which will hardly cover the cost if we miss this flight. Never using them again. read more

I've used them like four times now leaving for a flight at 4:15 in the morning from fort greene. I go to sleep confident that they'll be there on time because they have done it now three times in a row. They call when dispatched, arrive on time, and get me where I need to be. Smooth. read more

If I could put no stars I would. The last two times I tried to use this service I was waiting for well over 45 mins. This last time they never showed at all. The only reason I tried them again is bc they accept credit cards. I will not be using this service again or recommending to friends. read more

When Arecibo says "five minutes" they mean it! Their rates are consistent, and often cheaper than other car services in Brooklyn. They never try to rip me off for tricky drives to Red Hook or short treks to Crown Heights, and the drivers and dispatchers are always pleasant people. read more
