Called today- March 8th, due to the heavy snowfall... I was taking the dog 17 blocks. It took about 10 mins to get through as I'm sure many people were calling in. The guy who answered said it may take awhile due to the roads snow conditions, perhaps 20 minutes...maybe. ...I took a chance and said ok. The dog and I bundled up and went to the lobby. As we reluctantly walked out under the building's awning...a white car pulled up, the driver sd Arecibo? I was amazed! haha! Mr Leon, was an excellent driver; manipulating the slippery road. He sd I was lucky he was in the area! As we went, he said he was going home after dropping me off as he felt the streets were too slippery and dangerous for driving. His car was very clean. I will definitely call this company again! ...and be mindful of dangerous weather conditions... and Time it may take for 'available' car service... Posted at a later date cos...I forgot =P read more

I would not recommend this car service because they have no regard for time constraints and reservations. The drivers act as if they are doing their customers a favor by picking them up. On one occasion, I was manhandled by their driver simply because I requested for him to pull up closer to the pick-up location due to my disability. Their prices change from day to day as they participate in price gouging. I find it difficult to give this company a rating because safety is definitely an issue. Their personnel is not properly trained to deal with customers. read more

Just had to throw Arecibo some props - I left my cell phone in the back of a cab last night, and the driver answered it when I called (THE NEXT DAY, mind you) and said he would drop it off at the base for me. How often does that happen in a yellow cab! Plus, I take them so often they know my number by heart, are super-friendly and prompt, and are pretty dang cheap in the bargain. Yippee! read more

I used Arecibo 4 times in 2 days. My cousin and her husband use them all the time in Brooklyn Heights, and love them. All 4 times they were early or on time. And did not cost significantly more than a cab. Each time my wait was less than 10 minutes. Save yourself some time and enjoy the convenience of calling a car, and have it show up outside your door, while other fools stand in the snow desperately trying to hail a cab. read more

The driver was prompt and the car was clean but that's all I can appreciate. Rude driver with a jerky, scary manner with the car. Passed the double yellow line a few times. I told him I was going to the hospital and he immediately turned on blaring reggaeton. I'm not exactly in a party mood, buddy. He refused to provide a price quote. They need to get with the times and be more like the ride-sharing services. read more

I needed a van to take a chair that I was acquiring from a friend. I called Arecibo and asked them for one. They told me it'd be about five minutes. I asked how much, and they said $11, plus the van. I said what? He said, the van guy will charge you. Perplexed, I said OK. The van came on time, took the chair and I (about two miles) without issue and then wanted $20. Ten bucks a mile. That's ridiculous. Not only by the guy with the van, but also for Arecibo for not knowing how much it would cost. This isn't right. I call and ask how much it costs, and they tell me. That's how it should work. Period. read more

I have never had anything but great experiences with Arecibo (I've used them 3 times now). BUT, I have only used them to go *to* the airport (JFK), not to return home (to Park Slope) from the airport. It seems like reviewers here who've had bad experiences have had them on the airport side of things, so maybe this is something to watch out for. All I can say is that the three times I've used them, they have been on time and professional. The cars are always clean and comfortable, the driver is friendly but leaves you alone (I hate cab chit-chat), and the price is right. Its about $10 less to take Arecibo to JFK than it is to take a cab. Two of the times I've used them have been for really early flights (with 5am pick-ups). Its nice to know there is a place you can count on to show up so early and take care of everything when you feel like a zombie. read more

I was desperately looking for an affordable car service to take my visiting family to JFK airport. It seems these days limo services are putting gold into their gas tanks, for the prices they charge. Not Arecibo. They have good, fair prices, are punctual and I heard the driver they sent us was very pleasant with my family. From now on, only Arecibo. Good companies deserve good reviews! read more

I regularly use Arecibo for local runs, as well as trips into Manhattan and to the airports. The cars are nice, the drivers are friendly and the prices are fair... I've never had any problems. Highly recommended if you need a car in Park Slope. read more

Arecibo - Airport Shuttles Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Had to go from Kensington Brooklyn to Bayonne NJ for a cruise. Scheduled the car 3 hours in advance, when 10 min late I had to call several times before getting someone on the line and was told they would take 2 more min. 10 more minutes and we tried to call them again but no one was answering the phone. When they were over 30 minutes late we called another car service company, that gave us a much better price and got there on time. read more

When they show up they have good drivers and good prices. We have used Arecibo on and off for years and the "off" times are for the very frequent times they never actually send a car and you call and call and are on hold and nobody answers. It has happened too many times to count. Today was my last time calling them ever. I ordered a car for the Newark airport two hours in advance, never got a confirmation and I had a feeling dispatch never ordered me a car. Sure enough! And they don't bother to call me if they realize their mistake, they just don't bother to answer the phone. When you really need to leave and arrive at a certain time do NOT use Arecibo. read more

I had to write a review because the day I have experienced with Arecibo has been nothing but frustrating and disappointing. At 7:58am I called for a cab, per usual I was told they'd be there in 5 minutes. At 8:13am I called back because no one had showed up. I was told the car was 3 blocks away and would be there within minutes. 8:21am, still no car so I called back again. 10 minutes after that a car finally showed. I called this afternoon at 4:52pm to get a cab and again I was told it would be there in 5 minutes. At 5:14pm I got tired of waiting and called back! I told them I was still waiting for the cab.. guess I was put on the "put on hold till he hangs up list" because it's now 5:31pm, I'm in the back of a green cab, I'm done writing this review and I'm still on hold! read more

Love this car service! Cheaper than Lyft/Uber. Only not giving them 5 stars because they wait till the last minute to pick you up from the airport and are almost always late. read more

I called in and gave them three specific stops in Brooklyn that I had to make. I was very clear. The driver showed up late, drove dangerously (and without a seat belt / on the phone), and then refused to let me out of his car without paying DOUBLE what I had been told. DOUBLE. Never again. read more

Nightmare! This company is not reliable at all. The phones never answer, the app rarely works, the drivers do not wear masks and they are always late if they show up. read more

If Arecibo doesn't drive there I don't want to go there! They have taken me to the airport numerous times (my preferred route to JFK is Atlantic Ave to the Conduit). They take me all around Park Slope, to williamsburg and last month when I called at 3:00am to see if I could go to the upper-west side (mission aborted but they were ready to drive me) I don't mess with the other car services unless I have to. I am surprised to hear about some problems-I live a block and a half away so I usually just walk there or call and come down to find the car waiting. Heck I would even want to drive for arecibo! read more

I use car services in Brooklyn frequently; I've had two awful experiences with Arecibo, so bad I've erased the number from my phone. Will never be using them again. Their prices are predatory and inflated with little explanation. Last night I was charged $14 to go from Park Slope to Cobble Hill. I also took issue with a driver who wanted to charge me $30 to go from Park Slope to Canal; he got so irate with my questioning the price that he threatened to throw me out of the cab in the middle of Flatbush Avenue right before crossing the bridge. I'm not combative, I just believe in being charged what's right and fair. The drivers with Arecibo are dishonest and rude. I'll never use them again. read more

Everytime I move into a new neighborhood, one of the first things I look for is a reliable car service and I found that in Arecibo. Whenever I have called, they show up very quickly and that is that. I even used them to take my mom to the airport when she was visiting. The price is reasonable and unlike most yellow cab drivers, they actually know where they are going and I don't have to give them directions so I can just sit back and relax and enjoy the ride. I had to come back and update my review, from 4 stars 2, after having two bad experiences with them. The first is they didn't show up for a scheduled pick up to the airport. I had an early morning flight so I called the night before to set up a pick up and that time came and went and no one showed. I had to call the office twice and finally someone came. Thankfully the flight was so early that there was no traffic on the Belt so I made my flight on time. The second bad experience I had is when I called them to pick my mom up from the airport. I told them she had just landed and had luggage to pick up, but asked if they could send a car to meet her - no hurry. Well, they sent someone right away which was great, except my mom wasn't ready, she was still waiting on her luggage. They called me over and over again telling me they were there and I explained that she was waiting for her luggage and that she will be out as quickly as she can, however they left. I ended up calling another taxi service from my old neighborhood to pick my mom up. Needless to say, I haven't used Arecibo since and I don't see myself using them in the near future. The one thing I will say is that if you are ready to go and need a car service to pick you up, they are good with that and show up quickly. However they aren't very dependable otherwise, in my experience. read more

Never stayed on the phone more than 6 seconds. Never had to wait more than ten minutes. Best and most reliable way to get around Bk. Fairly cheap way to get to any airport, but only if you're into riding the teacups at six flags. Usually pretty funny, and severely intense all at the same time. That, and if you're drunk enough they will let you smoke in the cab. read more

Pros: Lots of cars so chances are you'll be able to get a ride pretty quickly. They kind of run Park Slope - one of the bigger ones - and prices are pretty decent. I've usually had a good experience. Cons: Ok, I get it. Your schtick is "five minutes" and if you say how long it's really gonna take (say 10-15) then I might hang up and call elsewhere who'll say five minutes. However, when I'm in a rush after you've told me five minutes and the car is late, and I call back to check and you say five minutes (without checking on the driver) or 'he's a block away' and doesn't show up for another 10 minutes. Then no. UGH. Plus, and this is an issue with all car services, I HATE when drivers give me crap for using a credit card. I pay extra for the credit card fee so you're not losing any money, dude. Sorry that you want to get cash right away, but most of the rest of us also have to wait for our paychecks so just deal with it. read more

I did a quick Google search because I needed a ride to airport and this place popped up. I booked a reservation with them the night before my flight. The driver was prompt, his car was spotless, and he got me there no problem. It was awesome and the price was great. I'll definitely be using them again. read more

Found arecibo through yelp, and it's become my car service of choice for getting around brooklyn or for shuttling friends back to manhattan late at night. $25 from boerum hill to the upper west side..not too shabby. Dependable, reliably clean, professional, fast and efficient. read more

Love Arecibo. I just used them three times, once for a trip to JFK from park Slope, again when I returned, with fellow Yelper Natasha A, and then for a trip to port Authority. One star off because the guy got confused on the second round and we had to wait for quite a bit, but he was really nice about it. For the most part they're prompt and cheap, no yellow cab can compare when you're in Brooklyn. read more

Called them the other day to haul my ass and the rest of my crap up to my uncle's in midtown from the south Slope. When I called they said "be there in 3 minutes" and they weren't kidding. I wish he gave me the chance to say that I needed 15. Only cost me $27 when I was expecting maybe double that (I am not good with distance and really can't guess well when it comes to any sort of cab fare). My driver was very nice and even put all my crap inside the building for me when I got to my destination. I will definitely use them for any BK to JFK trips in the future seeing what Rebecca said it cost -- I had to pay a cab over $60 to get to the south slope from JFK in December because I didn't realize the standard fare from JFK to the city only meant Manhattan. So thumbs-up to Arecibo, you will hear from me again. read more

Called them the night before my brother needed service to JFK at 5am. There they were, right outside, prompt and at the given rate! $35 vs. the $65 my brother paid to get to Gowanus from JFK by a clueless cab driver. They also got him there in a jiffy and didn't try to prompt any small talk. Will use again. read more

fye minite...or 5 mins..is how far your conversation gets with Arcebo. They are the best, they don't cheat you with prices, they know brooklyn and they are the best most reliable cab service around. Hit and miss... They are not the worst car service in the area but we've had some disappointing experiences over the years. The good is that they are usually available, usually quick to arrive and relatively reasonable in price. The bad is that often times the service is lacking (generally not helpful with luggage or packages, aggressive sometimes unsafe driving and poor attitude), the cars are not always clean and all the good attributes are not consistent. They remain on the list of options whenever we're in need of a ride but its usually a chosen out of necessity than preference. read more

Bertha Molina made our trek to JFK enjoyable and affordable. Bertha deserves acknowledgment because she has not only worked with Arecibo for 22 years she was the FIRST WOMAN to drive for them. I bet they're happy they finally gave her a fair shot. We are! Great ride and best route. read more

Dependable. You call- they come. So fast. Airports- not a problem.Only downside, not sure what language phone guy speaks- wanna understand, hopefully someday. This is a fantastic car service. I've used them at least 10 times and they've never been late--are frequently early. Friendly, professional drivers. Some take credit card, though not all of them--would prefer it if that was a given. And prices are reasonable, compared to the alternatives. Update - 3/17/13 I love these guys. Completely consistent. Honestly, Arecibo is pretty much my Uber in Brooklyn. One of the most dependable vendors I've experienced here. Definitely a shame if others have had differing experiences, but I will vouch for this company. read more

I took them to the airport from Brooklyn once 1.5 years ago. Mixed review. Inconvenient to place a reservation: I tried to call to use them tonight. Ring ring ring... No answer. This was also the case in the past two years ago where I couldn't get them to answer- hence did not use them. Driver service: The driver was very prompt, professional in demeanor, kindly accommodated me with multiple stops, and patiently waited when I wasn't quite ready yet. However, en route to JFK, he was a little confused on how to get there, got turned around and detoured, and made me a little nervous after awhile that I might miss my flight. Ambiance: Car was old and worn but serviceable. Not good for impressing anyone if that's what you need. read more

FIVE MINUTES! These guys will pick you up anywhere. I got them to pick me up at Newark Airport and take me to Brooklyn. It took 20 minutes but it was well worth it. read more

I am so torn about Arecibo. I have had some great experiences, and some really bad ones. They are almost always to my door within ten minutes (though they always say "five minutes" before hanging up), and get me where I need to go. However, sometimes the driver tries to gouge me for using a credit card (or just in general). The prices fluctuate so greatly depending on who the driver is--even when you ask for a price ahead of time--and I've had it happen a few times that they hear I'm using a credit card and up the price by several dollars. These are all hazards of car services in general- I understand this. So, unless something better comes along, Arecibo will remain the service I generally use. read more

Aricebo was great for my family for a number of years, though the drivers often complained to me about the company. Then we had several very bad experiences (not showing up, sending a small car when we specifically had arranged for a large one, etc.) and stopped using them. I decided to try again, for a ride to a very important medical test today. No one showed up. No one answered my calls asking where the driver was. I missed my appointment. read more

Won't be using them again. Scheduled a car for a 1pm pick up. Went outside at, literally, 1:02, and no car showed up. Finally got through to them, only to be told, "you weren't there at 1 so we left." They get 2 stars, though, because they called back saying someone was on their way. That was 15 minutes later though so we had already left. read more

I was hesitant to use this service after the recent bad reviews on Yelp, but I decided to use them anyway. Not really sure why the bad reviews, as I used them on 2 separate occasions. The first time, I was at LGA airport and called them requesting a ride to Park Slope in Brooklyn. They told me about 7 minutes, and just as promised, they came rolling by with their Arecibo sign 7 minutes later. 40 minutes later (traffic) and my wallet $33 lighter, (excluding tip) I was in Brooklyn. Upon my departure, I went on their website and filled in my info about 8 hours before I needed to leave. They arrived several minutes early, and we had a no hassle ride back to the airport. Another $33, and all was well. Will definitely use them again next time in NYC. read more
