We used to vacation here multiple times a year in the 80's and 90's - this was our "go-to" spot for…read morelong weekends, family gatherings, etc. We decided to reunite our family, which is now spread out all over the country, at Abbey Springs for a nostalgic summer long-weekend getaway. FYI, we're not golfers either. Never swung a club on the course, but the family-friendly amenities and "life at the lake" environment attracted us back every time. What we liked/loved during our latest visit: The beautiful setting. The well-manicured grounds. The dining options (clubhouse food was great). The indoor and outdoor swimming options for the kids. The proximity to downtown Lake Geneva. Our rental condos were very nice. Nice pro-shop. Ice cream for kiddos at the Clubhouse. Beautiful wildlife - deer, turkeys, etc. What we didn't like: There's a strong sense of exclusivity and entitlement amongst the members and staff, and our group also felt an overall feeling of disdain towards us being renters. This was apparent in our interactions with several staff members and owners. Specifically - the older gentleman at the beach guardhouse who firmly enforced the parking regulations for renters ("go park by the clubhouse") and even suggested I drop off my toddler children (by themselves) at the beach and then go park. Other family members had unfortunate run-ins with him as well. Our children weren't allowed into the petting zoo at the beach. There was a large group of elderly women who had us removed from the snack shop because they "had the space reserved to play bridge." No signs on the tables. But our kids and family were forced into the restaurant to finish their lunches. Then... some of these women tried to come and take chairs (that we were using) from our table because there wasn't enough seating for them to play bridge, hurling some snarky comments at us along the way. We received a lot more cold glares pushing us out rather than warm smiles welcoming us in. Finally, and unfortunately, several members in our group commented on the extreme lack of diversity within this resort - primarily among the members. Also - look out for raccoons in the trash dumpsters at night! We enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Will we return? We'd consider it, but some of the aforementioned items may give us pause.

It was amazing that this course was in great shape especially considering it was this early in the season. This is a fun course. The greens were in great shape. This is not an overly challenging course but is not overly easy for the average golfer or hacker like me. The prices are right a well. Once you walk into the building you are in an open bright colored room with information posted, and it appears your will need to be buzzed into the next set of doors. Upon entering into the rink area to the right in an area to purchase skates and/or skate accessories and next to that is the concessions. Just a couple of steps from the concessions is the washrooms. Then coming back there are tables and just past those is the right. Dj booth is in the front as well. Going straight through the door there are games and moving past those is the prize area and skate rental area. The beverages are over $3.00 and some change each, but they sell the pitcher for a little over $6.00. They offer pizza and snacks as well. We ordered the nachos and fries. The nachos which were good, but those fries, they were so good. This group rented the whole place to enjoy their birthday and is was very nice. Employees were both very kind and fast. You couldn't pay me to come back to this place. We had our family's Christmas party here in the…read morelower area where the bowling is at. The entrance was difficult to find (several locked doors). As we entered through the door, the smell hit us immediately. The entire hallway, bar area, bowling area, and banquet area smelled like a musty and moldy basement. The entire place was extremely dated. Most of us had to wear our jackets the entire time because it was so cold down there. The bowling alley area is old, broken, and just plain horrible. $20/hr for a lane, not including shoe rental. You have to write down your own score, as there aren't screens to display anything. There weren't proper dots on the floor to help you figure out where to stand, so you kind of had to guess where to stand to prepare to throw your ball. The lanes did not appear to be properly maintained, as the bowling balls would take funny curves when thrown. Bowling balls would constantly get stuck and have to be retrieved by then gentleman who worked there. Most of the bowling ball returns would trap the ball (they were covered in duct tape and the wheel would stop spinning), and it would take the next ball crashing into it to get it unwedged. The balls themselves were in terrible condition, with large dents and chips in them. We have a 3 year old, and needed a lighter ball and bumpers. They did not have balls for smaller children, so it was near impossible for my son to push the ball down the lane himself. The bumpers were merely long pieces of soft Styrofoam that were set in the gutters, and not flush with the lane. This caused balls to become stuck in the gutter/bumpers and the ball needing to be retrieved. It really was a shame that much of our paid time was spent fixing constant problems. The soda guns were having problems, and our first couple of drinks were highly concentrated with syrup. My daughter ordered two waters, and both had unknown speckles in the bottom and in the ice. All-in-all, the few staff members were friendly enough, although not very engaging. I do not recommend this place, and will not return.
