We used to vacation here multiple times a year in the 80's and 90's - this was our "go-to" spot for long weekends, family gatherings, etc. We decided to reunite our family, which is now spread out all over the country, at Abbey Springs for a nostalgic summer long-weekend getaway. FYI, we're not golfers either. Never swung a club on the course, but the family-friendly amenities and "life at the lake" environment attracted us back every time. What we liked/loved during our latest visit: The beautiful setting. The well-manicured grounds. The dining options (clubhouse food was great). The indoor and outdoor swimming options for the kids. The proximity to downtown Lake Geneva. Our rental condos were very nice. Nice pro-shop. Ice cream for kiddos at the Clubhouse. Beautiful wildlife - deer, turkeys, etc. What we didn't like: There's a strong sense of exclusivity and entitlement amongst the members and staff, and our group also felt an overall feeling of disdain towards us being renters. This was apparent in our interactions with several staff members and owners. Specifically - the older gentleman at the beach guardhouse who firmly enforced the parking regulations for renters ("go park by the clubhouse") and even suggested I drop off my toddler children (by themselves) at the beach and then go park. Other family members had unfortunate run-ins with him as well. Our children weren't allowed into the petting zoo at the beach. There was a large group of elderly women who had us removed from the snack shop because they "had the space reserved to play bridge." No signs on the tables. But our kids and family were forced into the restaurant to finish their lunches. Then... some of these women tried to come and take chairs (that we were using) from our table because there wasn't enough seating for them to play bridge, hurling some snarky comments at us along the way. We received a lot more cold glares pushing us out rather than warm smiles welcoming us in. Finally, and unfortunately, several members in our group commented on the extreme lack of diversity within this resort - primarily among the members. Also - look out for raccoons in the trash dumpsters at night! We enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Will we return? We'd consider it, but some of the aforementioned items may give us pause. read more

Scenic course, Terribly maintained. I can't believe the condition of the course for the price. Bad value fix your greens! I felt like i was taken to the cleaners. It is challenging with the greens were full of footprints and mud. The sand bunkers were not raked and some of the teeing grounds were very muddy. The course was recommended by a friend and there are two or three photo worthy holes. The fairways are tight and tree lined. It requires precise shots. The most positive was seeing a few deer and the carts had blue tooth. I'd recommend Geneva national or hawks view over abbey springs. Better value. Did I fail to mention the food service is mediocre. read more

We liked the house that we rented although the kitchen was very unorganized. Hard to know where to find anything. Also, it's time for the carpeting to be replaced. The resort itself is lovely. Enjoyed the 2 large pools and also the baby pool for our little ones. Both restaurants had delicious food. The sandy beach and playground provided a nice change of pace. The golf cart was helpful with our large group. I would highly recommend Abbey Springs! Golf course was beautiful although we didn't play. We DID play pickleball. read more

This is a very nice course that might need a little more maintenance but it has absolutely demonic greens. They are like the shaved head of a bald man - smooth and slippery and if your ball does not land below or near the pin and you have to go anywhere near downhill on your putt you will be sorry. Carts have cushy formed seats but unfortunately they are black and in the sun they are viciously hot. They have a cooler for drinks and a ball and club head washer. The GPS/radio is more of an advertising gimmick than it is helpful for the game. You could only enter two players names and the amount of ads shown is annoying. Also they have a very interesting speed restriction in that they have no signage as to where you are going to be too close to the greens or other feature but yet the cart will slow down to less than 10 miles an hour. If you are on the paved path however the quiet electric carts are lightning fast so a word of caution if you have a leadfoot going downhill on a path you will go very fast. We didn't try the food service as they don't have a full-service restaurant and went somewhere else for dinner but it has a nice view over the course and perhaps next time we will stay for drinks on the veranda/patio overlooking holes one and 10. read more

Been playing at Abbey Springs for years. Every year has gotten better. The golf course is challenging and really beautiful. It's kept in really great shape. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking. But what really makes the course are the people. The food and service up in the grill help set up the rest of the day. Everybody is so attentive and their food is really good. From the minute you walk into the pro shop and are greeted by the pros, you know you're in the right place. You also know you'll be taken care of on the golf course itself. Today we had Natalie, she had our back... Nine as well as our front nine. She made sure we were hydrated. She made our foursome smile every time she came up. Thanks for a great day! read more

Did a fantastic job with our wedding. We got married September 2014 but I'm just now getting into Yelp reviewing so thought I would give them a shout out. Staff was very professional and responsive. Food was just 'ok' at tasting event but was superb on the day of. Beautiful cocktail hour setting at lakeside tent and clubhouse banquet room is beautifully done and warm and inviting (I am not a fan of those large banquet rooms with white walls and no personality). They allowed our dog to be part of wedding (would've been a deal breaker) and the golf course is beautiful for pictures! I do not have a single complaint. Wish we had the money to do it again! read more

Very nice course. Great value in Lake Geneva. The course is in good shape . The greens are very difficult and you must be below the hole on almost every hole. Not overly long and the ladies tees really help the gals. Very unforgiving. You must keep the ball in play on almost every hole. For the money, you can't beat it. read more

We had a fantastic wedding experience at Abbey Springs! Our post-ceremony cocktail hour was held in the tent by the lake, and dinner/dancing in the clubhouse hall. The first few months after officially booking the venue was a bit rocky - there was a change in wedding coordinators, e-mail/phone response time was not the greatest, and I was unsure who I should be directing my questions towards. The tasting was wonderful (both the food and the information that we received), and really enhanced our comfort level in taking the next steps to define the details of our day. The final days leading up to the event were great - the new coordinator (Hi, Kinda!) was very organized and made us feel at ease. The staff did way more in the setup process than I had imagined, which was super helpful. We took photos on the grounds prior to the ceremony - our first look was on the pier, and the majority of the bridal party photos was near the rock-walled bridge. They all turned out gorgeous. The cocktail hour was great, and we put the outdoor tent heaters to good use on our 45 degree day in mid-May! The reception was absolutely wonderful. Everything that we had discussed and planned had come to life. The food was delicious, and the bar hoppin'. Our 118 guests fit very comfortably inside the great room. We loved every moment of our special day, and couldn't have pictured it anywhere else. read more

Aside from the food being delicious the "manager" Rebecca I believe was her name was very unpleasant. She appeared drunk and high. We had a friends visiting with us and this was very unacceptable. When I asked the bartender Ashley if this was normal behavior I was so very dissatisfied when she assured me that this is Rebecca's "norm". When speaking with other friends that are members they also informed me that they have seen and heard Rebecca talking about drinking at work and leaving her job to go drink with customers or friends. The servers were on top of their game fortunately which made the experience good. I don't know who is in charge of Rebecca but I will be finding out. We also overheard a group of bussers complaining about how "high" their "manager" was that day and how they are treated during the times she is at work under the influence. Totally unexpected and unacceptable. We now call to ask if she is in before dinning there. We will no longer come in while this drunk/ high lady is there. As stated above other members have seen and heard her while high and drunk and we will be putting together a formal complaint. You deserve better Abbey and staff. read more

This was one of the worst experiences i've had on a golf course due to the GPS system that totally controlled your cart. It would force you to leave the fairway at 70-YARDS!!! from the green. It was impossible for seniors or anyone with physical issues to then walk long distances to finally climb up to some of the elevated greens. We were exhausted by the time we got through the round. It controlled your speed depending on where you were on the course and it determined what were restricted areas. We were following the obvious cart path to the clubhouse after 9 holes and the cart came to a complete stop and would not move saying we were in a restricted area. We finally had to put the cart in reverse and move several hundred yards in reverse to the cart path on the first hole so we could proceed to the clubhouse. Beautiful,scenic course, comfortable carts but a HORRIBLE-Controlling GPS SYSTEM that ruined what should have been a lovely experience for my out-of-town guest and myself.
