We have been very happy with our decision to enroll our two students at Archmere Academy. My freshman started during covid, which was a challenge socially but academically Archmere made adjustments and school continued. My two students are very different in their strengths and weakness and as long as your student seeks out what they need, we have had a very successful and happy time at Archmere. They have expanded their college counseling department and made other staff and facilities improvement, that have only added to the school value. read more

Archmere's marker reads: "This was once the home of John Jakob Raskob (1879-1950), financier, DuPont and General Motors executive, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and developer of the Empire State Building. Known as "The Patio," his palatial home was constructed 1916-18 in a style befitting his position in Wilmington society. The name "Archmere" was given to the surrounding estate because of the natural arch the trees formed over the Delaware River vista. This has been home to Archmere Academy since its founding in 1932 by the Norbertine Order. Archmere Academy was officially dedicated on October 12, 1932. Opened as an all boys' boarding school with an enrollment of 22, the Academy is now a co-educational college preparatory school with an enrollment of over 500 students. The Patio was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007." Not much to see from the road with the gates locked. read more

I actually GO to Archmere, unlike some of these reviews that come from adults who haven't even stepped 3 feet onto the campus. The education is great and the teachers actually care about the students. It's the students that ruin it, because most of them vape or do drugs and waste their time with that instead of actually doing the stuff they should. Overall, it's great. Go there if you're able to. read more

Absolutely disappointing college placement assistance. We have now had to outwork the placement staff, twice to get colleges to review decisions for two of our children. We achieved positive outcomes each time - after the staff at Archmere declined to take the actions we asked them to take. If you want something done, do it yourself was the lesson we learned. I am still waiting for the Headmaster Michael Marinellito return a call from 4 days ago. I hope he reads this. read more

Attended a beautiful wedding reception recently for which the bride did an amazing job with décor. The caterer however could have been more flexible. When the family asked for safety tape to be put down by the invisible marble step down, they were told ~ 'no'~ flat out. Not too long into the reception a guest missed the step down and hit her head having to leave early and later get a CAT scan. This COULD have ended tragically as we all know how serious even a quick knock on the head can lead. On the way out it was pitch black. I could not see my hands in front of my face. Not a single light available along the walkway to the parking lot. My husband who had recent surgery almost fell flat on his face missing a massive step and we were holding hands too! The building is beautiful but clearly safety is being ignored. That makes it potentially terrible for receptions as most end in darkness. The catering company insists on a very large amount of liability insurance for many reasons but at least two of them could be avoided with safer lighting. Lowes has step lighting that requires no wiring, I mean, COME ON ! I cannot believe such a revered school would just blatantly ignore even the minimal of safety standards. Someone WILL get hurt and sadly it could have been avoided. Shame on everyone who knows about this and just ignores it. Other than almost cracking our own heads open on the way out,....the family wedding was absolutely spectacular!! Every single decision they made was perfect. The food was really good too ...I will say the Chef/Owner of the catering company did a great job. He just needs to fine tune his staff and make sure he has someone at the helm with experience running weddings. OH....And..the ceiling will blow you away but I don't recommend looking up at it.....you might fall and hit your head because there isn't proper lighting letting one know about the 'step down'. read more
