I wanted to review the American Red Cross overall. I think that they are a wonderful organization…read morefor obvious reasons!!! I have the utmost respect for everyone in the health care profession, especially angelic (for the most part!) nurses! The American Red Cross usually has the most amazing nurses working for them. Last night, at my donation in Somerdale, NJ, was no exception. A sweet older man, named Frank, not only did my check in, but also my donation. He was friendly, positive, and gave a great stick. We had a nice conversation as well. Frank even told me to help myself to the snacks in the cantina since they would just be sitting there when they left. So I did, and my son was thrilled w/ the Ritz and mini Oreos! Every now and then you'll get some free "swag," which is nice, but I can care less. I've been donating off and on since I was 16. I feel it's my part, helps my community, and my great type of blood mixes with all other types. Yeah, that's me ;) If you've never thought about donating, please look into it.

this has to be the most unprofessional Red Cross I ever been too!! My husband donates twice a year…read more he had an appointment on a Saturday late afternoon. We got there and was ringing the bell to be let in several times. no one came to open the door. we continued and finally was let in by an employee with an attitude. She was angry. If you don't want to work with the public then you are in the wrong profession. My husband is in great shape works out and eats healthy. They are going to deny him to give blood because they claimed he had a heart arithmetic and he is not allowed to give blood. this was a bold face lie!! they wanted to leave and not attend to him because he does the power red.. he rescheduled and was taken on Monday in collingswood with no problem. I demand the management investigate, he was checking his blood pressure all day thinking something is wrong with him!!! The reviews are here for a reason, do not go here!

Luckily, it was a pretty gloomy day, so I didn't feel too bad about spending a whole Sunday there. Our instructor was a lovely and helpful woman and she did her best to make the most out of a long, mostly lecture-driven class. She said it was her first time teaching at this location. We also got thirty minutes for lunch, which pretty much flew by. There were seven people total in our class; the small size helped ensure that the instructor gave each person individual attention and feedback. The hands-on portion of the course was the most interesting part. We performed CPR and AED on both adult and infant mannequins. We also practiced bandaging each other up. At the end, we took a few multiple choice tests (which we could retake if we failed, though everyone passed on the first try), received our certification cards, and walked out of there ready to take on the world! At least for two years, at which point we'll need recertification.

Nothing was set up as usual. i did the questionaire in advance. My interview was at 2:15 and finally was on the table at around 2:45. While one of the two people who were taking the blood donations and seemed to be incharge came up to the volunteers and said we will take no walk ins. People were turned away. As much as your organization advertises about blood shortage it was very dicouraging. I have O negative blood which is in short supply. I have given blood regularly since I was 17. I an now 70. Your Patient Bill of Rights does't seem to be a priority.

A friend recently told me about prenatal yoga at The Village through Holimomma. I checked out the…read morewebsite and signed up for my first class at 18 weeks pregnant. The yoga class was great. Being a novice at Yoga, I was nervous I would feel lost throughout the class, but that was not the case at all. The instructor was welcoming, and the entire yoga session was curtailed towards pregnancy. It was nice to be surrounded by other pregnant women and to solely focus on my pregnancy during the class. The Village offers plenty of other pregnancy and motherhood support classes and activities, I'm looking forward to checking more of these out in the future.

I'm so glad I took the Evidence Based Birth classes…read more On my Facebook I update all my friends on what's going on in my pregnancy. I have a lot of friends around the country that I've gotten pretty close to and they are just so excited for my husband and I. However, when you do talk openly about things, you get a lot of unsolicited advice as well as judgement for some of the choices you are making. Some of the comments are horror stories of why you shouldn't make a certain decision. Through conversation I disclosed to a friend a choice my husband and I decided to make in regards to my labor. Wasn't really thinking about it. This woman jumps on and starts saying how she hopes I don't make this decision because of the risks of "A, B,&C" A very long paragraph of fear tactics. If it wasn't for evidence based birth and everything I've learned, I probably would have been so afraid that I would change my mind and go against my own convictions. Because of the classes, however, I'm fully informed. I know the ins and the outs of the decision I'm making, how to navigate advocacy with my doctor, and also how to avoid some of the risks associated with this decision. So, new mamas, highly suggest the class. It saved me a lot of anxiety in my pregnancy and I look forward to the birth of my son with excitement.
