Steaks and salmon are the best! Service is good. Ambiance is midwestern steakhouse. Meals are expensive. read more

The interior is a little outdated but it's got a vibe. The food was very good and the service was actually really good.

Seriously, like stepping back in time to the days where you could go to your local steakhouse for a phenomenal meal, friendly service, and a cozy home like atmosphere. Well, look no further. This no-frills steakhouse specializes in dry aged beef, is James Beard award winning, has great cocktails, and still serves you a relish tray while you wait for your meal. For those of you under the age of 35, a relish tray, often consisted of carrots, celery, pickles, and cubed cheddar cheese like this one. They also will bring you some bread and butter if you would like. In my opinion, you should definitely opt for the tenderloin, but I'm not sure there is a bad steak option on the menu. They also have seafood and even sandwich sandwiches including a burger so there's something for everyone! It's family friendly and although the decor will remind you of your grandma's house, no grandparent I have ever met could put out steaks like this. Visit the ice cream capital of the world and make sure to save room for a steak! read more

- House salad - delicious - Tenderloin (filet) - I would have loved a crust on it. Was cooked to the right temp but I'd order something other than beef next trip. - Waeside Old Fashioned - no thank you :) Overall, I'd go back to try it again and order different things, maybe some chicken. The service was lovely and the whole place is quirky / cool. read more

One of our favorite spots that is not quite local but only a 30 minute drive. It's a great Saturday night to get a group together, cruise up to LeMars for the best steaks around, a good bottle of wine or two, and end with a little ice cream. A stop or four along the way home to continue the conversations and to check out other little small-town spots makes it extra fun. Service is top-notch at Archie's. We have only ever had above- average service there. Highly recommend. read more

I dont know what is going on with Archie's but the last two times we have been our steaks have been like steamed? No crust or grill on the steak at all. Server was great, still the best onion rings, but honestly we brought out of town friends and I was embarrassed. The fat wasnt rendered on the steak... I just dont get it? read more

Archie's Waeside - "steamed" ribeye. Fat not rendered no sear or anything. Honestly this is the second time. We wont be back. - American Near Me - Le Mars, Iowa

Archie's Waeside was a family favorite long before it became a James Beard award winning eatery. So, I can almost reach this out-of-the-way gem without my GPS (yes, LeMars is small ... you'll understand as soon as you go!). The service here is warm, while maintaining excellence. Most customers go expecting to wait, so there's a relaxed vibe in the entryway as people sip drinks and share onion rings or other appetizers. The front room and bar have a swanky feel ... that cool, retro supper club. Expect at least a 45 minute wait. There is an app to give you a place in the queue. It isn't easy to choose between menu items, including steaks, Iowa, pork chops, and half pound burgers however, my parents My parents almost always order the Vals special. From here, settle into the supper club experience: a petite relish tray (resting in in ice chipsh complete with cubes of Velveeta and veggies. This is served alongside salad, rolls and crackers. Finally ... the main event - this usually involves meat, perhaps a topper such as mushrooms. And a side... Archie's food aims to please and if it doesn't, the staff is kind when asked for help or changes. The atmosphere is not fussy, but it can be a dress-up spot if you choose! read more

Food was good the servers are also very kind and always there when you need them. The prices are kinda steep for a small steak but it was still good. read more

Was highly recommended and rightly so for the area. Steaks and chops are quality meats cooked very well. Lacking in seasoning imo, although you can get the steak peppered and seared it's still just needing a little umpth. Russian salad is legit! Burger is the bomb "as in really good". Staff is the friendliest you ever meet, highly recommend the place for a quality dinner. If you aren't a steak snob like me it'll suffice but the staff makes you want to come back and keep trying something new. read more

Archie's Waeside - a plate of meat and cheese - American Near Me - Le Mars, Iowa

Surprised it wasn't extremely busy on a Friday at 6:30. No wait. Never understood the infatuation people have with this place but I get here probably once a year. Ordered ribeye with three shrimp, baked potato and salad. Salad hit the spot, baked potato is hard to mess up, shrimp was delicious, and steak was perfectly medium rare. Both my wife and I commented on the gray color of our steaks but we both thought they tasted good. Like the local beer choices. read more

This may be the best filet I have ever had. Every time I have gone there, it has been cooked perfectly to my preferred medium rare. I like their sides and salad and they have Killian's beer. Each time, the servers have been friendly and very efficient. It is a must attend place at least once per summer if not more even though it is a 90 minute drive. Excellent restaurant! read more

Way overpriced boring food. The service saved our overall visit, the staff was attentive.

When you walk in you take a step back in time. This restaurant has not changed since it opened, but in a good way. I came here on a Wednesday night and it was packed. You can get on an online waiting list through the website. If you want a steak and potato meal this is the place. The steak was cooked perfectly and the potato was service with chive sour cream. If you're in the area and wanting a steak - this is the place to go! read more

This is an epic and classic midwestern steakhouse! Always worth it. Know that you MUST make a reservation. Coming from Denver, the prices were amazing! read more

Food was excellent. Onion rings, salad, steaks all top notch. Server was knowledgeable and friendly.

Impressed with this place! If you like a good steak this is your pace! Steak done superbly! Complementing the meal was the excellent service provided by server "Mike". He had a pleasing disposition that I imagine would enable him to put up with difficult customers! Hats off to you Mike! read more

Amazing steaks. Prices can't be beat. This place is awesome. Ambiance is real old school but the food is incredible

Moved back to the area after a few years and couldn't wait to have dinner at Archie's. I have to say that my husband and I were highly disappointed!! The steaks are still 5 star but what happened to the rest....no Dried Beef on relish tray, no Rolls, and no Fritters?!?!? These are the things that made Archie's unique. Had a couple drinks and I have to say you pay big city prices. $8 for a glass of Beer, come on Rand family. I know times have changed but we definitely will not be returning. read more

We stopped here for dinner on our drive from Denver to visit family in Minnesota with a friend that lives in the area and fell in love! If you call yourself a steak lover - you have to give Archie's a try. Don't let the location deceive you, this is the best quality meat in the Midwest prepared with incredible skill and is worth the drive. Three of us had the NY Prime and one of us had the Salmon - all were prepared perfectly, tasted excellent and served with a salad and in true midwestern style, your choice of potato. As a frequent Napa visitor, the wine list and prices will also blow your mind. Our server was attentive and provided great service and conversation. We liked it so much, we are going to build our trip around a stop at Archie's from now on! read more

Expect to wait to be seated! I tried making a reservation for 2 on a Friday night but this restaurant will only make a reservation for parties of 6 or more. There is plenty of room at the bar to grab drinks and or appetizers while you wait. We waited at the bar for about an hour before being seated. I got the strawberry shortcake frozen drink and it was very unique! They have a nice selection of beer on tap. The service at the bar was exceptional, everyone there was very friendly and checked up on us. The onion rings appetizer lived up to the hype! They were lightly battered and juicy. The ranch dipping sauce it came with was very buttery! The peppered New York strip steak was extremely flavorful and the seasoning on it was perfection. Don't make the mistake of putting any steak sauce or ketchup on it. The aged prime angus steak was perfectly tender and every bite melted in your mouth! And for those of you that eat the steak fat, you'll most definitely love this steak! Every bite will be a piece of heaven. The peppered New York strip is a leaner cut so I'd recommended this one if you don't like a fattier steak. Both steaks come with a good sized salad and a choice of potato. This place also gives bread, sliced carrots and pickles on the side. Presentation of the food maybe a tad off putting but the food is absolutely divine!!! Definitely worth the wait!! read more

Stopped by on a recent business trip in the area. I remembered people talking this place up so much when I lived in Sioux City, that the experience was a bit of a let down - but if you think about what/where it is, it's not bad Pros: Meat was very good, great flavor but a bit heavy on the fat/gristle side Prices are very reasonable, for both entrées and drinks Cons: sides offered are all potatoes (baked, hash brown, or fries) rolls were straight out of a store multi pack "relish" that comes with your salad - carrot sticks, celery sticks, a pickle and cubed American cheese Time frame to get food or drink is not speedy, at the bar it took us 15 minutes to get the first drink This is a place in smaller town Iowa, just don't go in with the expectation of a big city steak house (sauces, sides, table cloth), and it's not bad. read more

This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend, who told me it's the best steakhouse in the Midwest. We were in the area, so we thought we would give it a try. I was just appointed, and I will say it was not worth the drive. I started with the salad and Russian dressing, and the garlic was so powerful it burned my throat. I could only take a few bites of the salad. For our main course, We ordered the Château Briand for two. They carve it for you right at your table. It was under season, and we had to add salt and pepper. There is also no bread served with the meal. I'm not sure why the wait is so long here because I was not impressed. read more

Archie's Waeside - Chateaubriand - American Near Me - Le Mars, Iowa

Been before and had a fabulous meal. Everyone did and it was a party of 15! So in anticipation we went out of our way coming home from Minneapolis to have dinner there again. Only 5 of us this time. Loved the sign up in advance and glad we checked because we were 1.5 hours from getting there and still waited 45 minutes when we arrived. (their app was helpful to see the progress of people being served and really kept the waiting area much clearer). Our waiter was prompt, so sincere and helpful. He had a great memory and sense of humor. Loved his service. Salads were fresh, dressings awesome and the relish tray was very tasty and fresh as well. Onion rings - Fabulous! 2 ordered the ribeye which was cooked as ordered but extremely thin piece of meat compared to what we had in the past. Good flavor but really disappointed in the portion. Sides of hashbrowns and baked potatoes and rolls were fine. 2 of us ordered the thick sirloin. One got a piece that looked more like a tenderloin end, at least 2.5 inches tall, and was very rare when it was ordered medium. The other thick sirloin was maybe 1 inch and not very big around. The last person ordered the Archie special regular sirloin medium and was served what looked like a child's portion and thin as well. Way overdone!! Mind you we had not eaten all day and were fine with the overall taste, and still had 2-3 hours to drive so we didn't complain or return anything. As we were finishing up eating the food came out for a large group in the party room right near us. We saw steaks that were huge and fabulous and learned there are also prime cuts available. Maybe we missed them on the menu? They also had the regular steaks like we did BUT the ones they got rivaled ours by far. Makes me wonder if the kitchen was busy trying to get the food to the party that we got sort of the short end of their attention. Will we try again? Not sure. Something has changed there or we had a bad night? Not sure. read more

Great food, make reservations because you will need them if you want to be seated in a timely manner.

Not much else to say about Archie's that hasn't already been said. Absolutely the best steaks in the COUNTRY. I don't even bother ordering steaks anywhere else because it is always a disappointment in comparison to Archies. Some helpful tips: - get your steak "peppered"! - ask if any of their "not listed on the menu" steaks are available. Some of these are: * The Benny! The biggest tenderloin you will ever see * The Tomahawk! A bone-in rib eye that will draw everyone's eye * The shorter house! A "double" porterhouse. Nothing better! * Order wine! The finest selection in the area. Bob has contacts in Napa and knows his stuff!! read more

I always look forward to visiting Archie's when I come to Lemars and they never disappoint! Although I thought of trying to venture out to a porterhouse or ribeye...they're huge portions and I couldn't bring myself to order 12-22 oz. so I stuck with the 8oz petite tenderloin which is also know as a filet. I ordered medium rare and it was perfect! We came in with a very large group (40) and to get all but one cooked to perfection says a lot for the staff. Don't fool yourself thinking you can just walk into Archie's on any given night without a reservation. They pack'em in here on a Thursday night we had to park across the street and people were streaming in and out of here at 7pm. Fortunately, they have a great bar to wait for your table! The bartender is a doll and serves a generous pour. I believe our party closed the place down at 10-10:30. Thanks again Archie's! read more

Always excellent food and service! Steaks, shrimp sides top notch. Love it. Looking forward to going back.

Archie's lives up to the hype. One of Rachel Ray's favorite steakhouse, charming small town feel, 3 generation family business and you get $60 quality steak for half the price. I recommend the Ribeye peppered if you like some marbling (I.e. fat on your steak). NY strip is a little bit leaner. All steaks are seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic, but if you like more spice I recommend ordering the peppered seasoning. If you are looking for the full experience their onion rings are also famous and freshly breaded everyday. Fair warning to be very hungry. Dinner comes with a salad with your choice of homemade dressings, butter and rolls, cheese, pickles, carrots, and celery. You also get a choice of potatoes with your meal. They make their hash browns fresh everyday as well. Wonderful drink menu ranging from frozen daiquiris, cocktails, beer and wine. Plus a bar side where you can snack on apps while waiting for a table. Their hospitality was great. The waitress has dined at Archie's since she was little. One of Archie's family members explained their menu and how their seafood is flown in fresh everyday. This place was worth every minute of our drive here to this little Iowa town also known for Blue Bunny Ice cream. read more

The Petite tenderloin is delicious. Tender enough to cut with a fork, cooked to perfection, seasoned just right, delicious.

AMAZING STEAKS! The atmosphere was not what I was expecting. Regular square tables, no table clothes. Older dishes. Did I mention the steaks?! I order the $51.00 steak. Wow! Ordered medium. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor!!! It was perfect!! I ordered a drink from the bar. Unfortunately it was way too sweet and I was able to taste the Alcohol. Put in an electronic reservation at 530z advised it would be 1:45. Left, cam back and order 4 drinks and an app for $60. After another 30 min we asked when we would be seated. Archie's was incredible! I ordered the salmon, which is flown in fresh, so you know it's food! Perfectly cooked, with broccoli and rice. They had options for kids, like cheeseburgers and chicken tenders. For more adult options, they had many cuts of beef. My husband ordered the tenderloin medium rare, which was more rare than medium rare. His meal was 30 dollars and it was good not amazing. Maybe it was just the night, but the plates were not served hot so after 5 minutes, the food was getting cold. But once again, my salmon was incredible and the service was awesome! I would come again only for the salmon. My salmon was one of the less expensive items on the menu, for 17 dollars. They did give you a salad and rolls as a part of your meal. read more

Top 5 steak for sure. Got the NY strip, it was melt-in-your-mouth good. Our onion rings were crispy, cooked well, and tasted great. Wasn't a fan of the salad - lots of raw white onion. The roll was a basic roll, and cold, and the "relish tray" didn't do anything for me. The hash browns weren't great either. But the meat maked up for all the less-than-stellar add ons. We waited a while for a table, but the place was packed when we got there. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks beforehand. Our service was good.
