DCA was one of the worst experiences I have ever endured. If you try and go your own path and be…read moreindependent, you will be reprimanded for doing so. For example, as a senior in high school at DCA, I did not have an elective the first period; however, my mother worked as a teacher there and had a class the first period. The principal found me and threatened me if I was seen on school property (even sitting in an empty room working on homework) before my first period, that I would not be able to graduate. In addition, when the principal found gum on a table, she brought it in front of the whole school and said she was going to do a DNA test because nobody would own up to it. Numerous events have happened like this time and time again. Putting her hands physically on me, searching my backpack (because she heard I had headphones in my backpack), and was threatening in all areas. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL. It is an automatic signup for years and years of counseling.

Teachers overall seemed great at first but at a closer look we realized most seem very frustrated…read moreand unhappy with leadership or lack thereof at this school. Several teachers have already left for new jobs during the current school year and I would not be surprised if others will find new jobs elsewhere over the summer. I hope they will all find new jobs where they'll be valued and treated professionally. From what we've observed the principal is mostly interested in photo opportunities for social media. She briefly shows up at school events to take selfies with APs and students, then disappears. Communication with parents/caregivers is almost non existent. At a recent awards ceremony the principal didn't even feel the need to give a brief welcome to students and families. Just sad. Instead attendees witness an extremely passive aggressive AP treat teachers poorly. Parents could clearly feel the tension in the room. Absolutely unprofessional. Our student will not be returning.

How would I know that I don't know, but she need to be fired cause oh my God think of how she's being to kids if she does that to a grown ass adult just trying to do their job.

There is a pretty good mix of kids here from what I can tell... and of course lots of clique. The school is not run very well in my opinion... staff not on the sane page, issues with teachers, lots of junk emails, and you just get this feeling it in on the brink of a major meltdown down. However 2 years in it hasn't imploded yet. The school it's self is old, needs updating, refreshing, a face lift! But for what it is it is better then some I have seen. It might sound like I'm bashing the school but honestly I think middle school is just hard! For the kids, for the faculty, for the parents... it is a rough time in a kids life and this school is a picture of just that. Could the teachers use the sane platforms for info... yes... could the principal respond more timely... yes... could the kid treat each other better... yes... could there be rainbows, butterflies and unicorns flitting around making everything magical? HECK NO... it's middle school... it is generally a time of kids trying to make it through and figure out who they are. It would just be good if during this difficult time the school didn't make it harder.

The academics are top-notch and the athletics and extra-curricular offerings are all that you would get from a larger school, but with more opportunity given the smaller size.
