This is not the location to choose if you are looking for long-term healing. The advice and insight I've been given felt like a bandaid compared to a lot of the complex and deeper issues I was struggling with. I didn't feel care or empathy at all from Katarina. The office started ghosting me, and have not gotten any response from her. Coming out of my sessions I felt unimportant, I felt like my issues and struggles didn't matter. This place didn't feel like a lighthouse. Matters got worse when I was asking for a note, or signing papers for work. The attitude towards me became cold. If it was out of their capabilities, I wish they tried referring me to a different location, helping me reach out to the actual help I needed. I felt so lost and stressed especially in the state I was in already. I felt threatened to have a session or not. Please, take the time to listen, be patient, understanding, responsive, and act with care as all these patients are going through tough times. Edit* After writing this review, I experienced an unsavory set of actions in order for me to take down this review, thus slowing my healing process. I have no doubt they have helped individuals before, but the unsavory actions indicate large red flags for this business. I advise caution. After every session, Katarina would just walk away like time was up that's it. I just felt like a stranger that she had to talk to for one hour and then that's it. Being a social worker, I felt it lacked the empathy and warmth. I've never felt as if she tried to understand me. I switched to my old psychologist and after just one session with him I felt hopeful. I expressed my concerns and he showed me empathy and a willingness to work things through.

You can get better information, advice and direction from YouTube or podcasts. There are several highly trained and experienced therapists that you access for your specific concern. Unless you lack any self awareness, and even then, either these therapists are oblivious or simply don't have a level of skill or any follow through necessary. If you don't return, no one follows up. May as well just use a free, more highly specific resource. I was advised to take action that is opposite of that for dealing with someone with the issues presented and would've further antagonized an already dangerous situation. Presented with the caveat they really don't know. I am not paying to get advice from someone who doesn't know! I can get bad advice for free, on my own time and not have to drive! Maybe try online therapy that isn't as expensive and time consuming and offers more alternatives for your specific issue. Extremely disappointing. Do not recommend.

Our family was at a crossroad and my husband was struggling to find his way back to us. That is until he found NIRC. I am forever grateful he found your program and walked through your doors. He entered broken and came out stronger. You gave him back his clarity and set him down a path with guidance, compassion and the tools that he needed to succeed. Pastor Bill Orris was his beacon and helped lead him through the fog. I am forever grateful that he found your program and ultimately found himself again along the way. He has now been sober one year and counting. There are no words to express the gratitude I have for your program and the impact it has had on our family. I honestly think we would be on a much different path had he not found NIRC and I hope that our story can give hope to others that are navigating through the darkness that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you NIRC and all of the staff that brough my husband back, not only to me, but to our family. We've made so many amazing memories with him this past year and he is able to look back, remember and reflect on everything that we've done together. His life is no longer a fog, it's now vivid and clear with purpose and filled with endless love.

Absolutely horrible experience. I would not recommend Northern Illinois Recovery center. Her is…read morewhy: 1. Intake specialists lie to you. They said I can contact my son via cell phone. I am a single mom and I asked to have access to my son via cell phone and my work iPad to keep them updated. I will share the actual texts between me and the intake person at the end that proves this. 2. This facility is not equipped to handle detox. Day 1 of my arrival they gave me Valium to treat my alcohol withdrawal. They waited 10 minutes after I swallowed the pill and called the ambulance telling me they have no Intravenous or intramuscular available to give me, and they called an ambulance and sent me to a local hospital emergency room. Upon arriving there, the ER doctor said I was fine and the northern Illinois Recovery center should have waited at least 30-40 minutes for the Valium to work. My vitals were fine and the ER doctor was said I was medically cl to go back and he said I needed nothing from them as he checked me out and said all my vitals were good. Now you know I'm going to receive a bill for the ambulance and the ER visit that was completely unnecessary. That shows you the incompetence of the staff and the Director of Nursing at NIRC that made the decision to send me to the ER via ambulanc. Even the paramedics in the ambuLance said my vitals were fine and why aER they sending me to the hospital ER...after giving me a Valium 10 minutes ago and not waiting for it to take effect. 3. There was one interaction with a therapist and case manager for a 11 day stay. Both of them were useless, no follow-up. 4. There was one educational class a day and that's it. 5. On my last day, it was 5:30pm and I requested to stay overnight so I may attend the 6-7pm AA meeting. The nurse Eunice even recommended I stay overnight so I can attend that and it'll end at 7pm and I can receive my final night medications, otherwise I'd have no medications for night if they discharged me because it was a Sunday and all pharmacies close at 5 pm. So he said he had to get permission from the staff and director Nick. The director Nick and rest of staff said I had to be discharged immediately because I changed my mind to stay and my discharge papers were done. That was the answer I was given. Now what caring treatment center would do that? Not this one. I had to leave then and there, unable to say goodbye to most fellow inpatient friends I made. They were crying and so was I. 6. All of this show what a unprofessional, uncaring and incompetent director and staff they have. Here is the text messages from the intake specialist before I went in saying he spoke to Nick director and executive director regarding they'd allow me to talk to my son via cell phone and use of my work iPad.

I was referred to Tracy by a family member that works here. I was a patient for over a year. I…read morereally loved talking with Tracy and she helped me navigate through a hard time. We seemed to be on the same page with my goals and options and I valued her opinion. On 8/10 I had an appointment to discuss finally treating my ADHD. It took me years to even consider medication, but felt confident that she could help. Our session went great! She advised me of 3 different medication options. I am very sensitive to medications, so I requested the one that my son had done well with since I was already hesitant to try anything. She said she would fill it but warned me my insurance may not approve coverage. I understood and we left it as, if they declined the medication we would discuss something else. A week passed after that and I hadn't heard anything so I called and spoke with Ari. Med was declined but they were working on trying to get it approved and if not they'd help me find another option or maybe pay out of pocket. Ari was kind and helpful, even though she had to be the middle man for Tracy. After an entire MONTH of working with Ari to figure of WHAT medication Tracy was going to try since the preferred one was declined, WHAT meds my insurance will even approve, and even WHEN Tracy would let me know what we will be doing I finally left a VM that said hey, if we can't figure this out by the end of the week I'm just done. Short version- I started the drug 9/12 and by 9/15 I had high blood pressure, eye pain, confusion, and other concerning symptoms. I reached out Monday to schedule my follow up appointment and I asked Ari if I should be concerned of these symptoms, she PROMISED that she would have Tracy call me by the end of the day to make sure I was ok. She warned me to NOT stop the medication until I spoke with Tracy. By Wednesday by BP was even higher and I could hardly function. I called and Ari said "she didn't call you back yet?" NOPE. She said she would talk to her and get back to me. They were open until 7pm and still, NOTHING. By Thursday at 9AM I called multiple times and no one answered me so I left a very frustrated voice mail. Hello? Is this normal? Should I stop this medication? Why does no one return phone calls like this? Well to my surprise guess who finally called me? TRACY! I was so relieved she called and asked me what was going on. I told her my symptoms and she said to STOP the meds. Great, that's all I wanted to know! Then she asked me why I was calling so many times in the last month and that my behavior was super suspicious and she thinks my ANXIETY was CONCERNING TO HER. She said she has been "WATCHING ME" and then told me she intentionally was "PUMPING THE BREAKS" on HELPING ME because she saw I was communicating with Ari to figure out what the plan was. Excuse me? Did you just GASLIGHT your patient because you failed to effectively communicate a plan with me? I asked her why she didn't just call me and discuss that she felt concerned and she said she didn't talk to me ON PURPOSE. She admitted she was playing a MIND GAME with me. Absolutely not. Not only is that incredibly narcissistic, it is down right predatory. Tracy, you could kill someone with behavior as a psychiatrist like that. BE CAREFUL. Advocate for yourself and if you are starting a new medication have a back up plan in case she ghosts you and then blames YOU! Oh, and after she gaslit me she yelled at me, refused to let me talk, fired me, and hung up on me! Thank you for your professionalism. Unfortunate for me, I will never ever work with a psychiatrist again for mental health or medications. It was incredibly heartbreaking to hear her say those things about me and not take any ownership on how it was handled. Insinuating I'm crazy and that was justification for withholding care? I actually do think this is very out of character for her, but she definitely earned this one.
