Started my day thrifting here but walked out empty handed. The store has an impressive array of stuff and selections. From housewares to clothes to furniture to little knick knacks...there's a lot of square footage to cover. Docking a star because the prices aren't that good, and some things are overpriced in my opinion. I'm not sure how they're doing their pricing, but they need a reality check. They're charging way too much for items that are donated. Donated: It didn't cost them anything to stock inventory. They're also a non-profit, so they don't have to pay taxes either. I understand that ARC has programs it needs to support as well as the overhead cost of hourly employees. However, there's no reason for the price gouging. This location is the worst for pricing out of all the ARCs I go to. People go to thrift stores to buy used items for LESS than buying items new at the store. It keeps a lot of things from going to the landfill and you get to save money. When you're charging up the yin yang for things I can buy cheaper and brand new at the store, then what's the point? $10 for a used doormat? Get real. $20 for a small bird cage with complimentary bird crap still in it? Disgusting. $3.99 for a travel chess set with missing pieces. $1.99 for a plastic container that they sell at the Dollar Tree as a set of 3 for $1. Don't even get me started on the prices for the filthy and broke down furniture and appliances or the garbage in the collectibles case. read more

A thrift store is a thrift store. I love going "treasure hunting" for brand new clothes with the tags still on them at times, to hand thrown pottery, actually signed on the bottom in the clay...for a few dollars ! I don't think that people who shop at thrift stores are scary or shady..they are just smarter than some of the snobs who throw away their money on shopping sprees that leave them with an empty feeling. And an empty wallet. One must take the TIME to go through everything and then stop in every few weeks to find the new things they add. I also donate to the thrift store, and my son just cleaned out his closet...about 30 barely used t-shirts with funny sayings on them. Donating is green. I called to donate some beautiful leather furniture and a solid wood dining set for 8. They turned me down cold. If you live in Capital Hill, Cheesman Park, Congress Park or City Park, they will NOT take your donations via pickup. "Too many cops" was the reason I was given (eyeroll). I told them that we have a large loading zone for our building, and they still wouldn't accept the donation. A lot people who live in the city don't have a car, let alone a truck. Whatever are they going to do when Denver actually becomes a 'big city' like those on the East Coast? Give up on donations altogether? read more

I was harassed by what i assume was an employee with special needs for looking at the book section. He started yelling at me that i couldn't look at the books cause he was there or something along that, I couldn't really understand but either way there was no reason for it since other shoppers were looking at the books also. The most annoying part was that instead of saying excuse me he yelled "white" at me to get my attention based on my skin color which doesn't make sense. I'm not mad at the special needs employee i don't expect him to know better but screw this location for having them work around customers and letting them harass people. Other employees watched and laughed as it happened also. won't be returning f#ck you guys. They hire special needs employees to pay them as little as possible and exploit them. read more

This Arc is hit or miss. I have scored some good clothes in here, the best buy I got is a beautiful J Jill dress that I adore. Most of the clothes seem quite outdated. I have picked up some little knick knacks to sit around and collect dust that are nice. There is a large selection of furniture, but again, it's very outdated, I have found the pieces that might be worth buying are usually broken. This is a thrift store that you need to spend time picking through, and realize, you may leave empty handed. read more

Part of my life is to know something about thrifting. This ARC isn't my favorite in town, not by a long shot. Though it's larger than the ARC on Broadway, it's just not filled up nicely. Some thrift stores swap inventory with each other slightly, they're ultimately a reflection of what's brought in. I must therefore conclude that folks in this 'hood spend more money on the nearby Sonic than they do going through their unused wardrobe. Like other ARCs, this one seems to have jacked prices during the recession. Does it really affect the bottom line for helping RC's, or does it piss off patrons who won't pay the upsized prices? Remember, no matter which thrift store you patronize, you're re-purposing goods, and not increasing the carbon footprint of a similar new product. Plus, these are charitable institutions that help make a positive difference in peoples' lives. Go through your closet. If you haven't worn it in 2 years, donate it. If you haven't worn it in the last year, at least think about it. read more

This has to be my favorite thrift store near me! The place is big. All clothing is separated by sizes unlike some other stores. They have great sales! Cashiers are the best! They can move through the line quickly. read more

I realize this is a big store and there are a lot of moving parts but there are some fundamental problems: 1. The CDs are labeled in such a way that the titles cannot be browsed without picking up the CD and looking at the front. That is, an adhesive price sticker is wrapped around the label on the hinge end of the jewel case so you can't read the title and artist. This has a side-effect of occasionally breaking the delicate plastic hinges of the jewel case unless you cut the label down the middle where the two halves of the jewel case meet. Why can't they stop doing this? They never started doing this until about the same time all the prices went up from $0.99 to $1.99. I have brought this up with staff, but no one seems to give a crap about the customer experience, or they're afraid to confront the staff member who thinks it's a great idea to put the CD price tag in the worst possible location. I don't know which is worse. 2. You need to keep meticulous track of your gift cards. Tonight I had two gift cards: one from a few days ago (can you tell I'm there a lot?) and one from this evening, obtained by returning merchandise from previous visits. I used two of the cards--one had about $14 on it and one had about $4, but after using both cards, only the second balance had been applied, and the first card had no balance on it anymore ... "POOF, no money, your card is blank." This most likely happened because the cashier was distracting herself by talking to some random interloper about losing her phone and offering to call her phone for her, then trying to get some other cashier's attention about some bag full of stuff--more than one distraction, originating from the cashier that was serving me, that was NOT at all time critical. The cashier spent very little time paying attention to what she was doing with my money and that resulted in her losing $14 of my money. A supervisor came over to "help," but that's when the cashier claimed I only had one gift/refund card, and they kept insisting even though I held up the other card. It is OK to make a mistake, but this happened because the cashier didn't give a damn about what she was doing. I love people from Ethiopia, but this cashier was not one of the smart, conscientious ones. My recommendation is to develop a sense of urgency about your job and offer to pay attention to your co-workers AFTER you are done with a transaction involving other people's money. Not everyone can be a customer service dynamo, but I guarantee most customers are much more likely to forgive a mistake if it seems like you are present and attentive at least. I want to know who's training these cashiers to not give a rip and lose people's money. read more

The Women's Rest Room is terrible. It only has 2 stalls and only 1 is working most of the time. The store could be better organized. They have arranged the area that has pictures and frames but it could be much better. Arrange them by size and also by the empty frames. These should be separated so if someone is looking for a certain size, they don't have to try and look through hundreds of picture frames. I would also like to see the clothing colorized on the racks. If you are looking for a certain color, you know right where to look. I would love to get a job there just to organize the store. The people that price the items really need some training. Who puts the price sticker right over the picture or important markings on the item? The stickers are hard to remove and especially if it is on a delicate item. I get so angry every time I go there! I complain to the poor clerks that work there and they agree that there is no training or oversight. One of these days I am going to go there and fill up a cart with items that have the price tag over the saying or the markings. I doubt that anyone will correct it. People are so lazy these days! read more

The stores are fine but their pick-up service is for the birds. They call two weeks ahead to schedule pick-ups, then it's a roll of the dice if they will actually pick-up. twice now They have arranged pick-up and the driver went right on by. They try to say when called that no one on this end had agreed to pick-up. Or donations will now go elsewhere. read more

This update is strictly for the book selections. This is one of the few thrift stores in the area still selling used books. With a 3 month old we are actively trying to fill out his library. We were able to get 12 Dr. Seuss books for $30! That would have been $60 on sale at Target! read more

Terrible customer service! They charged me an extra $20 and wouldn't give me it back in cash. They then tried to blame it on me. I left that store without my lost cash, but with a $20 gift card so that I have to come back. What a scam. The manager was extremely rude. Unless you like being over charged and rude service, would not recommend. read more

This is far and away the best ARC Thrift Store. Not too smelly or dirty. I find the best clothes here. Maybe someone my size with very good taste died and all of his clothes were donated to this particular ARC. But awesome new stuff shows up all the time. Or maybe it's just too far from Capitol Hill to be picked over by the rest of the hipsters who don't have cars. read more

I am a thrift store fan and I am always on the lookout for something without breaking the bank. This one is a little diamond in the rough. It is located in the Big Lots shopping center and on most days parking is pretty easy to find. I have found clothes, home goods, so many awesome books, and lots of vinyl records here. There are so many choices on so many things. I really like how the store is organized and it's usually pretty easy to find what you are looking for. Sometimes it's hit or miss, like any thrift store. They play fun 80's music to get your "shop on" to and the people that work here are usually pretty friendly. They do half off items a lot and senior day is Tuesday so I usually try to avoid it on that day, it gets packed! read more

I can't speak about the clothing but this thrift store has an amazing furniture and housewares section. I always find great brands in excellent shape from places like Nordstrom, world market, etc. the prices do seem a tab bit higher than some of the other arc stores but they are still more than reasonable. Additionally, this store is massive and is way more organized and clean than other thrift stores with this much inventory. I'm definitely a fan! read more

I have been to this thrift store about 4 times already. Each time I leave with nothing. I am a very patient thrift store shopper and I do not give up hope right away. It takes time to find hidden gems in thrift store and you have to be very patient. I find nothing but clothes from the 70s and 80s And it smells really bad I will say I give them credit for the book selection. read more

This is for the broadway store.... employees Stand around discussing how manager is mean. The one saying it wasn't much nicer I'm guessing. I went in on Saturday evening around 6:30 pm, just looking around,for clothing for my elderly mom who's in an assisted living. While the selection is fabulous and the prices are fair, there was a woman in her early - mid 50s complaining about her job, management and customers. I believe her name was jenny? Anyway, shopping for me is a stress relief usually but this trip wasn't a pleasure . I hope, whoever this woman is, has someone train her in customer service read more

I love this thrift store! Every Saturday is (mostly) half off day and Tuesday is senior day! Have a great selection because it's huge! You have to know how to be a thrift store shopper...patient and dig through to find gems. Shoes, bags, and coats are my favorite sections! I sometimes hate standing to check out but the small price at the end for as many items that I get is worth it. If you're in the area, check it out! Great hours too!! read more

You cant beat the Thrift Store and this one is better then the one on W Colfax. Cheap Clothes that are in good condition, house hold items, ive gotten pots and pans out of here with no complaints. The prices seemed on par with other stores but the coats did seem a little higher priced. But still go in here and see what you can walk away with. read more

Arc is my favorite place to go, especially on half price days! I've found toys, housewares, knickknacks, shoes, clothes, books. It's a pretty tidy store, considering it's too small for so many items. I do wish they had more fitting rooms, with a bigger area to leave my cart. Once I went into a fitting room and when I came out, my cart and all my "finds" were gone. I eventually found them, back on the racks and shelves, so, the store employees are maybe too efficient! I'll be going to ARC today, looking for sandals, Capri pants and lightweight tops. Tuesday is a busy day, but I find everyone to always be very polite and well mannered. I've never felt ill at ease in there. Whenever I have a question about an item, the man who works in the back room is very nice and helpful. He's been there as long as I remember going to this store. A couple times I needed something priced and he sure made me happy with the price he put on. Shopping Arc was a wonderful way to buy items for my grandchildren, including a highchair, toys, games books, portable crib, stroller, and clothing. It was great fun when I took a grandchild in and they found a knickknack they wanted to buy me! I wish these stores were around and so well supplied when my kids were growing up! read more
