I was able to a get quote ($6 per knife) and it was finished within 10 minutes. They also did the paper cut test right in front of me! Very sharp. Dennis was extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of my Kirby Vacuum cleaner I have owned for 30 plus years. He cleaned it and restored it to its original vacuum cleaner high end functioning status. He even cleaned the large wheels that "drive" the vacuum cleaner forward. It took a week and it was a new vacuum cleaner again! He actually carried it to my car when I came to pick it up. I would rate my service as epic and an amazing opportunity to find a place that knows your vacuum cleaners and restores them perfectly. I was also given an accurate estimate. I was surprised they were able to replace parts and the bag holder the same day. The Kirby has many safety features that keep the owner safe and the vacuum working at a high capacity. I drive past this business frequently and have noticed that they do knife sharpening. I've thought many times that I should take my good knives in but I didn't do it until one of my favorite lamps suddenly stopped working and I found that they also do lamp repair. The lamp needed to be rewired, and they also installed a much better socket than the old one. Did a great job. Very prompt too. So I took my knives in and they also did a great job with them--at the very reasonable price of six dollars per knife. Excellent work, reasonable prices, fast turnaround. What more do you want? Do you like to cook? And why am I bringing this up in a review of a vacuum cleaner store? Well the reason for that is that I use this store for their knife sharpening service. My knives and get dull and need a professional sharpening every once in a while and this store does a great job of this. I took my knives in on Friday afternoon and they were ready by Saturday at noon. I came home and checked out my newly sharpened knives and they cut through food so much better than they did before I took them in. And at a cost of four dollars per knife how can you go wrong? The staff are professional and knowledgeable. Everyone was polite and willing to answer questions. I would recommend the store to get your knives sharpened. The only thing to be alert about at this store that they are located right on the corner of Packard and Carpenter. This is very convenient, however you are unable to turn into the store while traveling eastbound on Packard. And you are unable to turn eastbound on to Packard from the store. However there is another entrance on Carpenter so you can get in and out of the store easily. You just have to be aware of the median that does not allow you to make these turns. There is a sign in their store that says they will beat the price of any other store or an online store on any vacuum cleaner they have in stock. I took my vacuum in and the guy was knowledgeable about what it would take to repair it. He looked at it right away and let me know how much it would cost. When I wasn't sure if I should do it or buy a new vacuum, he actually recommended that I buy a new vacuum (even though it meant no profit for him). The owner (?) who sold it to me was the kind of low-key salesperson who makes buying things a real pleasure even when they are way expensive. Imponderable, the pleasure of being a buyer. If money makes the world go round, this place is a prime mover. Someday I'll go back for the pricy knife sets. Really Disappointed with Arbor Vacuum Deborah C. 1 Arbor Vacuum I have shopped at Arbor Vacuum for many years, but customer service is lacking when a problem with a vacuum we have purchased from them arises. We have ordered parts for the vacuums that we have purchased here over the years, paid for the part (you must do this before they will order), and then we have NEVER been contacted when the part has arrived. We have to call them to find out if the part has arrived, in other words it is up to us to follow up. In the past, we have been sold incorrect vacuum bags (Packard store) and today we learned that at some time we were sold an incorrect belt for our vacuum. We received no apology from the salesman, just a blank look, and no attempt to make things right. Today, we went in to obtain the part that we ordered in January of this year, and they couldn't tell us if the part had ever been ordered. Again, a blank look, and of course no apology, however, they asked us if we wanted our money back. Huh?! We need the part! We are tired of using electrician's tape to hold our vacuum together. I do not recommend this store...I don't think the owner cares one whit about his customers, and I have spent well over $2000.00 in this store (2 vacuums, 1 carpet cleaner, plus parts, vacuum bags, belts, repair work). I am really disappointed and frustrated with our experience at the Carpenter road store as well as the Packard store. read more

I've now bought two Miele Vacuums from this dealer over the course of a decade or so. The customer service I've experienced at Arbor Vacuum has been great. They have been helpful and informative and seem knowledgeable about the product line. I was even recently offered a ride to help me get my new machine home when it became clear that it was too unwieldy to take on the bus! The store is clean and nice to window shop in, too. With three dogs shedding fourteen months of the year, my Dyson needed a tune up. I wish I could say that the Dyson "sucked," yet it did not. Time for the pros. After reading fellow yelpers' comments on other vacuum repair shops in town, I decided to head to Arbor Vacuum. Let's face it, how often does one need such a service? Well, if you do, fellow yelpers, head over to this super friendly and efficient shop. I dropped the thing off on a Friday, and by Monday I had it back, completely disassembled, cleaned, polished, then reassembled. A friendly guy took it in the back and came out a minute later with the diagnosis: cleaning needed. No mechanical problems. It had lost suction due to build ups dust and crap here there and everywhere inside. He also instructed me how to proactively keep the thing operating at max. In other words, I learned where the various filters could be found. Of course, had I read the manual, I would have.... Other than vacuums, the place has a rocking cutting edge: Wüsthoff knives...all types...low prices...special deals, too. The minute I stop saying "you suck" to my Dyson, I know where to bring it so that it, indeed, sucks! read more

My wife and I just bought a Miele canister unit from Arbor Vacuum. I never thought I'd get excited about a vacuum cleaner or the salesman. But I did! The Miele is expensive but all of features make it worth it. You won't find this level of functionality in units you'd buy at a big box. Our salesman Kyle knows the product inside and out. He showed us the features that weren't readily apparent by just looking at the cleaner. Great experience. The showroom is a little dated. read more

We have a Bissell Healthy Home vacuum which has worked perfectly for a couple of years. There is a little clip held shut by a spring that holds the door closed on the bottom of the dirt cup. The spring broke and fell out. As a result the clip would not hold the door closed and it would open and dump all the dirt on the floor if we weren't really careful when emptying. Bissell said that was not a warranty repair and wanted something like $50. We decided to be careful and live with that. Recently we bought a couple of new furry rugs. (House is about 80% wood floors.) The vacuum clogged up quickly on the new rugs and stopped running. Thought it was just temporarily over heated but it would not run after cooling off. Which brings me to comment on Arbor Vacuum. Have been going there for over 25 years. However, the original owner reportedly sold it within the lat year or so. Took the vacuum there and was told by Chad that since we had not replaced the spring on the little clip that lots of dust (!) had gotten into the motor and filters and caused the motor to burn out. He said that he would report the machine as being "abused" by us and there would be no warranty repair possible. Talked with another Bissell repair shop that has been in business for 25 years. Was told that they had NEVER seen a Bissell that had been abused to the point of not being repaired under the warranty. Retrieved the vacuum from Arbor Vacuum and took it to the other shop. read more

Well, Dick Sampier retired, and now vacuum-obsessed people of his generation from the west side need somewhere to go when their vacuums don't work properly. Once I got through my sobbing anxiety attack and grief episode re: Dick Sampier's shop, I decided to take my precious baby Shark vacuum to this shop. The friendly employee looked at it and diagnosed it as needing a cleaning. The offer was to remove the clog for $35, or have a full cleaning and tine-up for $70. Given my vacuum's position of importance in my life (ranking just lower than my car and just higher than my furnace), I opted for the $70 option. I think that is dang reasonable for something so vital. read more

So....Im a little puzzeled after reading the other reviews/filtered reviews, but I will give you mine for what it's worth. We have two dogs and a cat, so there is lots of pet hair all over everything in our house. I have to vacuum every day as a result. About 3 years ago I bought a 'bissell pet hair eraser' vacuum from a big box store, it was awesome - worked really well. We had to constantly replace the hepa filter and change the belt to keep it in working shape, but it did the job. Then about 2 months ago, it started to get really loud when I used it. Every day it would be louder and louder, and eventually I had to start stuffing tissues in my ears when I used it, because the noise was so piercing. One day my husband came home from work and was like " I could hear you vacuuming in my car while I was in the driveway." SO it was pretty bad. I couldn't take it any more, and I knew that Arbor Vacuum was really close by ( I run by the store on Packard on one of the loops I run). So I called them first to see if they could give me an idea of the problem, and if I should just bring it in or whatever. The guy said it's probably the motor if it's that loud and to stop using it before I burnt the moter out. He also said that bringing it in was the best idea, they could look at it while I waited and give me an estimate. I took it in that day. A different guy greated when I came it, I told him I called and he took it in the back, I heard them turn in on for about 10 seconds. He came back out and said the motor was almost burnt out, and that to replace it etc... would be a few hundred dollars. Well, I only paid ~$200 for it in the 1st place, so I certainly didn't want to spend the same amount just to fix it, I'd rather buy a new one. Which, stinks because I vacuum every day, so I needed to get a new one ASAP. He showed me the refurbished Dyson's that they sell. I have always wanted a Dyson, but I don't have $500 to spend on a vacuum. The refurbished ones that they had were $250 each. He tried to sell me one that was 5 years old - I think it was the original Dyson (my parents have this one) and it pretty large and doesn't fit under furniture etc.... I noticed a smaller one, the DC 18, and tried that out, it was the 1st model with a "ball" not exactly like the ball vacuums Dyson has now, but it moves the same way, was 3 years old and only weighted about 8 lbs. He told me that it had been traded in by an owner for a newer Dyson, and that they replaced the brush and kickstand. They offer a 1 year warrenty on refurbished vacuums -parts and labor. I bought it, and I'm really pleased - I love it, works great and you would never know it was refurbished. There are no belts or filters to replace, and it works really well, and is so queit! I just surrendered my old vacuum. They said they couldn't part it out so it would just be recycled. Now, they looked at my old vacuum for about 10 sec before recomending a new one. So, maybe it could have been fixed for alot less, or maybe it really was done for - I don't know. I do know that the Dyson I bought works really well, I couldn't have afforded one otherwise, and I am pleased with my choice to let them have the old vacuum considering the value for the money spent on the refurbished Dyson. So I recomend this place for purchasing. I'm just not sure about repair. read more
