The decor was lovely, a really nice homely feel whilst still being cool. The service let us down enormously though. We waited 30mins for our order to be taken then a further 30 mins for our starter and even our drinks to arrive. It was a busy night, maybe that was it, or maybe it was the fact that 2 of the staff sat down tucking into their dinner rather than serving the heaving dining room of guests. The food was very good, we opted for a mezze to start. Then a mixed grill and a lamb and goats cheese bouvlak. The bouvlak was lovely, the mixed grill was ok too, even if we did see the 2 dining staff putting 2 of their leftover sausages back on the grill. It's cheap, a nice atmosphere and the foods ok, but we won't be going back. It was a huge disappointment.

Try the lamb and goats' cheese bourek; just avoid the vegetable version as it tastes like flavourless mash. Everything is prepared in the small kitchen by undoubtedly loving hands, as it really is more-ish! (sorry.) The prices are pretty good, the bourek (a kind of filo pastry filled with meat and cheese) which is very filling will set you back around £5.50, just remember to get your desert, baklava from Maumoniats International Supermarket, down the road. I made my housemate try these delicious middle-eastern sweets and now she's hooked!

This appeared to be the only place selling them so I thought we would give them a go. When we arrived, the ambience and smells were so good we switched to moroccan mode, going with a mixed meze and the aubergine tagine (which I was a bit dubious about). The meze was the usual babaganoush (nice and smoky), humous, olives, pitta etc, but with a bit of chicken shawarma on the side to stay with the mission objective. All the food was excellent but the aubergine tagine was so good I will definitely go back and order it again.

Inside, you'll find Moroccan rugs and Algerian furnishings creating a unique atmosphere in which students and working folk on their lunch breaks enjoy the large but selective menu. It is not just the décor which gives this place its unique sense of authenticity - the food itself echoes North Africa, from kebabs and tapas to spicy meat and humous sandwiches (try the kofta kebab), and it's all served quickly and cheaply. L'Oranaise provides a refreshing change from the usual in an area in which the eateries are increasingly becoming all too familiar, and more importantly, it gives you a real feel for North African culture and cuisine.

However, a couple of things let this, undoubtably good value Full English down. The first gripe was using cheap sausages. Now, I know you can't actually buy decent sausages for not much money, but I'd at least prefer the option to have non-processed ones. But then, by giving that option, you'd infer that your normal sausages were crap. So, catch-22 really. (Well I think it is, I never could finish the book) Anyway, they had a real problem with mugs too - but, fair enough, we were about 15 hungry hungover layabouts. The rest of the breakfast was excellent, really nice black pudding and what have you. And only GBP 4.99 for a load of stuff. Apparently this place is actually a Moroccan restaurant at night! We proceeded to try different things from the menu to share between us, the food was delicious and the portions generous and everyone commented on the exquisite taste of some of the ingredients that were obviously produced on the premises, the hummus was the best ever. It is fortunate the supermarket is so near, when we ran out of wine, one of us ran round and bought some more, certainly quicker service than some of the bars in chapel A.

There was quite a few of us, so we took over the upstairs seating area - unfortunately wasn't aware until we were leaving that they also have an outside patio area - which was ok, I guess it would be better if there was more comfortable seating! It's fine though, as we arrived in good time to grab a late night bite and a shisha. We grabbed an apple juice from the fridge, ordered chicken, houmous, mushroom and cheese sandwiches, and sat in the outdoor area to await the food and the shisha. I can't recall which flavour I chose, but have to say, it was delightful -fruity, sweet and lovely! (Of course, that's if you're a fan of shisha.) The sandwiches came promptly, and were simply delicious. The chicken was cooked beautifully, the toasted bread was stuffed to the brim with fresh houmous, mushrooms and melted cheese and the plate came with a helping of salad to eat alongside the sarnie. Incredible! The space is fabulous too; when you enter, it feels like you've gained access to a secret club, where only a select savvy few know it exists. Despite the main shop being empty, we walked in to find a lively hub of folk, all with the same great idea to side-step the noise of Leeds City Centre. The staff are really accommodating, regardless if you're a little wobbly, and it makes for an excellent little hide away from the busy late night streets of Leeds. Given that it's two minutes away from most of the bars along Call Lane, it's the perfect spot to soak up some booze with their varied edibles, relax with friends and escape the rowdiness of town. The best bit? The food is practically take away prices, with none of the awful grease -now that's worth knowing. Yes, sometimes, all you want is an awful kebab, but for those who don't have such a calling come 1am, there's Kadas. Hidden, tasty, friendly and just really flippin' cool. Get involved.

There's a fantastic atmosphere. Probably due to the relaxed bohemian nature of the place. The furnishings are all low, encouraging you to get comfortable. Just angle your tummy perfectly so you can fit a lot in - the meze's come fully loaded. It's great for a night out with a girlfriend or boyfriend, or with friends, or with family. (A practice that seems to be ever increasing - I really need to go shopping.) Their menu offers up a really tempting range of delicious, and might I add, healthy Moroccan cuisine. Everything from couscous, tagines, mezzes and more. Having been poorly of late, with a dreaded winter cold, I wanted something fresh and vitamin orientated, which appears to be rather difficult when you're ordering take away. Most of the offerings in Leeds aren't the best in terms of healthful eats, but with Moorish there's a plethora of good bites to choose from. I wanted to pick so much from the list, and ended up being only marginally sensible (but still rather greedy) opting for the shawarma sandwich, olives a lamb bourek and a lemon sherbett drink. The bourek was just incredible, deliciously flaky filo pastry encasing a beautifully spiced lamb sausage, absolutely packed with feta cheese. The sandwich was equally fantastic, being stuffed with the most tender lamb pieces, potato and other delightful bits. The food came with a little houmous and chilli tub, a tub of potato, beetroot and olive salad, and a mini tub of salsa-esque yum. The olives were also, of course, delicious. This was, as predicted, vastly too much food for me in one go so I now have a happy portion saved up for tomorrow. But, another absolutely noteworthy element of the delivery was this lemon drink. I have no idea what was contained within this compostable cup of the gods, but it was utter nectar. It was refreshing, sweet and so moreish (excuse the pun) that I've been left wishing I'd ordered two. All the above, paired with the fact that every piece of the packaging my food came in is recyclable, makes this place a stand out take away option. The delivery guy was amongst the friendliest I've encountered as well, which is always a pleasure. Basically, if you want take away but don't want to have to sift between fatty burgers and calorific (often sub standard) curries you have to choose Moorish. Healthy, delicious, independent and basically awesome. I'm just going to have to get off my arse one day soon and actually go there in person.
