Terrible experience with this spa. I booked and got confirmed for a couples massage but less than 24 hours in advance they cancelled the appointment saying it was booked wrong. They have no other appointments and ruined the 40th birthday celebration we had planned. This trash business doesn't deserve your money and I would avoid Ameristar completely. Guest services pulled the classic no one wants to work and then when I asked for a supervisor they lied to me and told me none were available. Turns out three seconds later he told me is the supervisor and they won't help regarding any of the business they allow to operate at their casino. Don't give people like this your money and we should have booked with Monarch.

My ideal relaxation scenario: a deep tissue massage coupled with hydrotherapy, and just chilling stress-free for a few hours - Ara Spa easily fulfills this request. The first visit wasn't as nice as the sauna and steam room were set at a temperature way too low. The second visit, they must have fixed the issue as the dry sauna was HOT and the steam room cycled like it supposed to. The whirlpool was never an issue, always the perfect setting. A bowl of cool eucalyptus soaked towels, located next to the resting area provided an excellent face aromatherapy in-between cycles. The use of these facilities are included with any spa treatment or a day pass can be obtained for $30 on Sun-Wed, and $50 on Thurs-Sat. This is their suggested routine: shower rinse away the day's stress 3 min steam purify your mind and body 5-10 min shock plunge in the cold shower 1 min sweat feel the heat in the dry sauna 5-10 min shiver refresh with a cold shower 1 min submerge relax in the whirlpool 10-15 min shower conclude with a warm shower I opted for the Rocky Mountain Ritual (after spending a couple of hours in hydrotherapy, of course), a 50 minute treatment that included an exfoliating salt scrub with a hydrating body butter mini massage application. An in-room shower allowed for the salt can be washed off after the scrub prior to the massage. The massage portion, though short, was one of the best deep massages I have ever had. I recommended to the front desk that this be offered as a 90 minute treatment, extending the massage portion for best results. There are snacks, fruits and tea for your enjoyment in the waiting room/lounge in front of a fireplace. I don't know if any spa in Black Hawk even comes close to this one. Check it out! ______________________________ Brochure and Pricing: http://www.ameristar.com/Files/BH_Ara_Spa_Brochure.pdf

Besides the restaurants here, this is the best part of the Resort, for me at least. I am not much of a gambler person, I'd rather spend my money here than the slot machines. It's kinda hard to watch your hard work earnings disappear in a min without any full enjoyment, not even a 5 min adrenaline rush. Lol. The services are a tad pricey, but so worth it. $50.00 just to have access to the spa, sooo you might as well spend money on an hour massage or any other services to have the access for free. :) Clean facility, great service and awesome staff. Lounge area, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room are amazing and all in one area. Cheers!

Since I live about 1,500 miles away, I knew it would be a while before I had the chance. Fast forward to our trip a couple of weeks ago. The only reason we stopped in Idaho Springs was so I could refill my lotion. I grabbed a refill bottle, got in line with my 9-year-old son, and waited my turn. When I reached the register, I told the employee that I'd like to create a custom scent. The look of complete inconvenience on her face immediately caught me off guard. She asked, "Do you just want to come back later so I can check out these other customers?" I told her I understood they were busy and was happy to come back later. Before I walked away, though, she asked what scents I wanted, so I told her. I even mentioned that I'd bought the lotion a couple of years earlier, loved it, and had been looking forward to coming back just to refill it. She showed no interest whatsoever. She then told me she was out of one of the scents I wanted. Between her tone, the awkward interaction, and the other customers watching, I simply wanted to leave. I told her I had really been hoping for that particular scent and that I was no longer interested. By that point, she had already started helping other customers. Her only response was, "Next time." I grabbed my son and walked out. Throughout the entire interaction, I remained polite and patient. I never showed any frustration. As soon as we got outside, though, my son said, "I don't understand why that lady was so mean to you. She was all smiles and talking to the girl before you, but not you." After reading other reviews, I noticed some people suggested she doesn't care for children. I want to be clear that my son stood quietly beside me the entire time. He didn't touch a single item or do anything that would have contributed to the situation. I was genuinely disappointed because I had such fond memories of my first visit. I had been looking forward to returning for years, and unfortunately, this experience completely changed my impression of the shop.

I scheduled my 25 min foot bath at 1:30p and then the 50 min salt cave session at 2p. From the moment I walked in I was warmly greeted. Checked in immediately, as I had entered all voucher info ahead of time. I was escorted back to the foot bath suite of 3 (and was by myself) was taken great care of by the very knowledgeable and friendly staff. She was training someone and they both were kind and just made me feel so comfortable. Once that was done and the ion thingy did its thing - she went over all the different colors and things we saw in the water. Super interesting. Then I was led to the salt caves and was wowed! Soooo pretty and relaxing. Again I was by myself so it was even more relaxing, but I wished I had all my friends with me - because it is very neat. Kicked back in the lounge chair with a blanket and just breathed in all the good air. That was Friday afternoon; it is now Sunday morning and I just finished a workout and STILL feel light on my feet!! Can't wait to go back!

The salt room itself is beautifully calming--between the soft stars on the ceiling and the soothing music, it was the perfect place to just unwind. The session lasts 50 minutes, and we loved that we could just put our phones away & it turned into a space where we could just sit, breathe, and reset. We both came in feeling a bit stuffy and curious to see if the salt would help, and we truly noticed a difference afterward! Overall, it was a peaceful, rejuvenating experience, and we would definitely go back. Highly recommend if you're looking to relax and recharge!
