I simply cannot say enough great things about AR Workshop, Brooke, and her incredible craft helpers! I threw my mother a surprise 70th birthday party last weekend. Communication from the first contact and throughout the planning stage was fantastic, and AR Workshop went above and beyond to specialize exactly what we wanted it to be, down to setting up a cute Happy Birthday banner and sign for my mother, and helping us watch for their car so we could have a proper "Surpriiiise!!". We had 15 ladies who had never done something like this before, and (with the help of a little wine) we all created and brought home something we love. Loved my experience here! Came with the moms group from my school for a mom's night out event. I choose 2 projects but only had time to finish one (4 hours) which was a picture display board. Came out beautifully! All the ladies Kelly, Ashley, and Natasha are so helpful and kind. I had to come back to finish a pillow which was my second project (3 hours). They were so friendly, welcoming, & helpful! Definitely got to let my creativity flow last night! My moms group had a night out here, and we brought our snacks and worked on our designs!! This is great because everyone's masterpiece was different, we choose our medium (wood sign, lazy Susan, canvas, etc), stain, whitewash, paint. I could see going multiple times because there are so many projects to choose from. The lady next t to me made a lazy Susan as a wedding gift, with the last name on it and a blessing. What a great idea! I definitely want to get back here for a date night and maybe another mom's night! So much fun! Brooke and her team are amazing! My two boys, who don't often sit for long periods of time to do crafts, made adorable personalized wood frames for their soccer photos! Went here last night with one of my girlfriends and had an amazing time. AR Workshop is a national brand, but a franchise was recently opened in SJC. This place is like wine and paint night... on steroids. It is a boutique DIY studio that allows you to create beautiful home decor (with guided, simple instruction). They post their class schedule online, it looks to be about 1-2 classes per day. The classes range from making wood plank signs to wooden lazy susans to jewelry organizers to canvas bags or pillows. My friend and I were hoping to do one particular class but it wasn't scheduled for a couple weeks; I called and they were able to change one of the upcoming classes to accommodate us! You book your class online and also determine the size and design of your project at the time of booking (custom options are available). We did the wood plank class and it cost us about $60. They provide instruction and all the raw materials (you provide the beverages or snacks). You get to choose the size of the sign, the stain and paint colors. At the time we were there they had about five stain options and 40 paint colors; was great to have so many options. The studio is tucked into a small strip mall near the freeway. The nice thing about their location is there are a few different restaurants in the same mall, this allowed my friend to grab dinner and just walk over for our class at 7pm. The studio itself is super cute, they have lots of different displays out to get your creative juices flowing on stains and paints but they also have some retail items for sale like jewelry, home decor and small gifts. I highly recommend this for a different girls night out or quality time with family. read more

AR workshop is so much fun! I've been to 4 classes and will keep coming back. You pick a project online and attend the scheduled class. When you arrive everything is ready to make from raw materials. The instructors are super helpful and kind. They walk you through every step of the process to help you make an amazing project. If you mess up or want to fix something the instructors will do that for you too. They really don't want you to be disappointed. You go home with an amazing project that you can actually use in your house!! The owner is so accommodating if you want to book a private event or reserve a table to yourself for a girls night, celebrations, etc. read more

I first heard about this place on social media and decided it would be the perfect place to take my grandma for Christmas since she is the reason I love crafting and creating so much. We attended an evening chunky knit blanket class with Maddie and we loved it! Maddie was a patient and clear instructor who took the time to make sure we all understood and were doing things correctly to get the finished product we wanted. We also got to share a table with two other lovely women and AR creates a fun environment that allows you to talk to the other people in the class. They also have lots of cute things in the shop and the option to purchase more yarn if you want a bigger blanket or more colors. Overall, I would highly recommend for any age group! I was lucky enough to get a last minute spot at the chunky blanket making class last night. My friends and I have all really wanted to come here for awhile now so I was really excited. My first impression was it's a cute place but not very professional. Everyone was nice. When we arrived at 5:45 (15 minutes before class) the colors of yarn were already all picked over. We were told that people showed up an hour early to pick colors. This seems ridiculous and had I known we needed to do that we would have done the same. They would really benefit from just asking people in advance what color they are looking to do it would help with the chaos in the beginning and the disappointment of not getting color blanket you would ever want. Because it took so long to pick colors the class got started much later than we thought. Leading the class were 2 young ladies in high school or college. They showed us how to get started and help for a bit then basically went to the back the rest of the time and we would have to go looking for them for help. It's a class! They should be walking around asking if we need help. I will say every time I asked Molly for help she was great. In the end yes I made a blanket. But it's a color I dont have in my house and it's not anything I would give as a gift since it was my first one. The experience has the potential to be so much better but they didn't execute this one well. read more

If you want a fun way to create with a high success rate, AR workshop is the place to be. Our women's ministry had a fundraiser last night that was so much fun. Before going I chose a project online ( there are so many beautiful ideas, is hard to settle on just one - you just have to go back and do more later) and when you arrive, your tools, materials, personalized stencil, and Brooke (owner) and/or one of her helpful assistants (ours was Diana) will be in place all ready to start. The atmosphere lends itself to lots of conversation and laughter, and with time that seemingly flies by without knowing, the result is a hand stenciled, personal artwork that you can be proud of displaying in your home or in my case, garden. This all goes without mentioning the sweet gift shop that makes me want to come back and browse the next time I need a unique gift for someone. I really really wanted to love it. I went to the Chunky Knit Blanket workshop. It started fine. The 2 girls (high school/college age) that ran it showed us how to start it and were around for the first 30ish minutes while we started our blankets. But after they, they pretty much just stayed in the backroom organizing/cleaning the stockroom or eating/watching videos on a computer behind a bar area. When I asked one of the girls if I was doing my blanket right, she said it looked fine. When I pressed and asked "are you sure, it doesn't look like another blanket at the table?" She admitted it was wrong, but didn't want to say because it looked ok. I'm there to learn. If I'm not doing it right, then she needs to say something!! I ended up making so many mistakes because the girls were not around to help and I had to notice when I was making a mistake (which is super difficult when you are learning something brand new). It's only a 3 hour class. I think they should be circulating and helping the guests (not eating/cleaning in the backroom). I'm pretty disappointed in this experience.
