It is really sad how high risk all of PA and NJ have become with the deer ticks. Definitely not this places fault it happened, just make sure you wear protective gear when you hike because all of the doctors in this area are very inexperienced at diagnosing lymes and it could really mess you up long term. On a totally other note, this trail is very clean, we'll maintained and the regulars here are very nice. I usually see mostly women here. A perfect little piece of nature tucked away for everyone to enjoy!!

One of the very first beautiful days of spring we decided to check out the 5 Mile Woods in Yardley…read more The main trail was blocked off and closed, but it appeared that the other trails still accessible. It was still very early in the season so the trees have not come into their full foliage, but a lot of lovely little spring flowers were popping up along the edges of the trails, the weather was warm. The wind was lovely and the sun was shining. The trails are in desperate need of repair. I am not one for actual built, walking paths through an alleged "Woods" A better name would have been 5 Mile Park. This place very much gave me the vibe of the song Big Yellow Taxi "they took all the trees and put em in a tree museum" the feel of the place was anything, but "woodsy" the entire area was built up with wooden planks and boardwalk style walking trails rather than what one would typically experience in the "Woods". Also, they do not allow dogs. Remember people we can't have dogs running about in the woods. (How absurd) we did encounter some wildlife, several skittering squirrels, and a lovely black snake met us as we crossed the bridge of the stream, I guess he too, was looking for his natural habitat. As the days begin to get longer, the temperatures start to rise and my yearning to be in the outdoors strengthens as these next few months unfold; I will be out and about walking trails and appreciating nature, but I don't think 5 Mile Woods will be where I will be doing it.

I decided to participate in a 3 mile moonlit hike which was hosted by our lovely park ranger Rachel. Lake Nockamixon is a large park with multiple hiking trails. There's also benches and two spacious parking lots. Lake Nockamixon also is a great relaxing place to go fishing and moon gazing! I look forward to returning!

Well, in theory it does but it doesn't. The waterfall for a good portion of the year doesn't exist. No rain equals a pile of rocks where as good snow melts or consistent rain equals a small waterfall. Finding the falls area is no big secret as the below map shows. From the parking lot, either take the trail that heads towards the right versus anything to the left which leads to the boulder field or you can walk through the boulder field and on the other side turn hard right and after a mile or so, you'll find the creek/falls area. buckscounty.gov/DocumentCenter/View/13159/Ringing-Rocks-Map?bidId= The same basic ideals still apply. It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful park in Princeton and amongst the most beautiful in Mercer County (Bald Pate Mountain in Hopewell is up there as well). There are about eight miles of nature trails at this park which offer fantastic hiking (not overly technical) and trail running opportunities. I bring my dogs here and they absolutely love it. Volunteers do an amazing job of keeping the trails in tip top shape (mix of dirt, grass, mulch and pebble trails). The lake itself is beautiful. Actually, everything about this place is beautiful. The trails are well marked and it's relatively hard to get lost.

The park has a single parking lot , decently sized. There is a pool, not open when we were there due to lifeguard shortages. Restroom facilities were typical for a park. We enjoyed the trails which were well maintained. There are some rental cabins, too. There's a playground very close to parking, easy for families. One thing: basically no cell service, Verizon or T Mobile. A call got through from the NMA but his texts did not relay until we left the park and headed towards home. Be prepared for that. Overall a place I'd happily visit again.

First of all, the hike was extremely muddy, so dress accordingly. It had been raining the prior day. The kids shoes/ pants were filthy at the end... we had them take off their shoes before getting in the car. Fortunately it was not slippery despite the incline. Speaking of the incline, it wasn't very difficult. Didn't get any complaints from the kids. The hike itself is quite interesting with the boulders, scenery etc which kept them engaged. We spent probably an hour for the round trip, with an additional half hour exploring the boulders. It has a fairly large parking lot which was convenient. Note that we did enter "Sourland Mountain" as the destination in google maps which took us to the middle of nowhere. So I'd recommend specifically adding the hiking trail as the destination.
