Sitting at the waiting area.

Great place to help your family learn how to swim. My kids were taught here for about a year or so. Instructors here are very patient with beginners. The only downside is when kids are being taught in groups, they'll have to wait awhile before it's their turn. One tip would be if your child needs special attention, just pay extra and get them a private session instead of a group session. They'll learn so much quicker.

Swimming class is like disneyland for our 2yo. Swimming is the best thing ever for her. Now imagine you go to disneyland, you have a ticket but at the entrance they say "sorry, you can't go in. We made a mistake and someone else has your slot. You can't go in" . So this happened at the swimming class today. Now, I'm the one that has to tell my 2yo wearing a swimsuit and goggles that she doesn't get to go to the pool on the other side of the bay window. It gets worse they don't have ANY time for us anymore. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. We might be lucky if someone doesn't renew at the next billing they told us. I'm mad and I'm heartbroken. What happened? We booked a recurring class. We went the week before. It was all great. Now this.... Help me! When can we go again? I have a 2yo that wants to know too. P.S. if you think we booked a single class, explain this email confirmation to us.

The teachers and staff here are good. But be careful where you park because they don't have cameras to inform you on when people hit your car and run. Everyone's always in a rush. My kid had a 30 min swim lesson and by the time I came out, saw someone backed into my back bumper (likely when getting out themselves). I was perfectly parked as I try to be thoughtful of others parking next to me -- but this person just didn't care. Didn't even leave a note. If you see anyone that typically attends Saturday mornings with a messed up back left side, pls let me know. They backed into my back bumper and didn't even leave a note. Take a look at pic.

getting an ribbon with we are level up.

My child did this for years! And learned nothing. She progressed through the program, but as soon as we pulled her out, she knew nothing.

Ask the Community - AquaTech Swim School - Alameda

There is a free time swimming for family and how much is the ticket?

Yes, there is! It is called AquaRec and all the details can be found here: https://www.aquatechswim.com/recreational-swim

Do they have open lap for regular adult swimmer?

No, don't believe so...I sometimes see adults swimming "laps" in the open swim area, but it is not a dedicated lane, they just try and stay out of the way, but often there are other kids and adults in the open swim area, so likely you would have to… Read more

It looks like there's a level below Tadpole called Aquababy for ages 8w-2y. I don't see a description for this class on the main page, only where you can schedule classes. Are there details for this class? And confirm $8/class?

Yes you correct it is $8/ swimmer. Aquababy hours: mon&fri 10am-2pm / sat&sun 8:30a-9:20a

How old can an infant start their first lesson?

I believe 6 months is youngest. It's the tadpole level range 6 months to 3 yrs

What does a baby wear for aquababy class?

A swim diaper and a swim diaper cover (bathing suit). They sell both on site, however it is cheaper to bring your own.

While I wasn't afraid of pools or the ocean, I'd drown if I found myself in deep water without a life vest. I decided to finally take the plunge and learn in my 30s, and I'm so glad I found Woody! At the time, she was offering lessons in Oakland, and I chose her because it was in my neighborhood. Although the 1:1 lessons were a bit pricey for my budget at the time, they were worth it! After a few months of lessons, I was able to get past the mental barrier I had around deep water and finally learned how to tread water. Beyond that, Woody equipped me with numerous skills and techniques to feel confident and comfortable in the water. Let me tell you, learning to swim as an adult is no easy feat, but having a fantastic instructor makes all the difference. I highly recommend Woody for swim lessons! Thank you, Woody!

She didn't want to start swim lessons. We wanted the peace of mind that she knew how to swim so we joined the wait list and started as soon as we could. We told her it is a life lesson and she had to do it and thankfully she agreed. Our daughter isn't quick to trust or warm up. I was a little concerned that the teachers wouldn't respect her shyness That was not the case at all. The coaches are all respectful, kind and professional. Now she knows how to swim and more! The picture is of her learning to dive! My husband started taking lessons too because he was inspired to improve his swim technique. Both really enjoyed swimming with the coaches and learned a lot. We highly recommend Woodys swim school!

The young people at the front desk are always helpful and friendly. It is a very positive Alameda vibe.

I am new to joining a gym and as a senior, I hoped for a positive outcome, and not feel intimidated or like I "didn't belong" I felt very welcome, I've taken a few classes that have been beneficial for me. One is for posture & strengthening. The instructor is fabulous, knowledgeable and makes our workouts fun. I thoroughly enjoined a class called "just breathe" very relaxing and uses the "Alexander Technique" but now the wonderful instructor is on maternity leave and we look forward to her return. There is currently a sub but I haven't had a chance to go back. I'm learning to use the equipment at my own pace. There are several rooms with different equipment and I never feel pressured by someone else needing the one I may be using. I bring my own container of disinfectant wipes, since not everyone is conscientious about wiping their equipment after they're done using it. And I'm fine with using my own, even though each room does provide a spray bottle and small towels are available at the front desk. I bring my own mat to the classes, but they have them at the front desk if you need to borrow one. The best for me personally is the use of the indoor pool ! I have never enjoyed using a pool anywhere until I joined this gym. I've tried two different classes. One is Gentle Aqua & another one is Aqua Cardio. Both instructors have different times depending on the day of the week . Both ladies are fabulous! The hours suit my needs perfectly. The ladies locker room is always immaculate. Shout out to Maria who is there Monday - Friday She keeps the locker room, freshly clean, always wiping down the wet floors as we come back from using the pool. She is very kind and welcoming, and we appreciate her so much! And lastly, the Manager, Edward was very kind and welcoming. He gave me a nice tour of the gym. I was a bit uncertain that joining a gym was the right thing for me to do. He gave me information on trainers that they work with to help me along with my journey. My friend and I joined together & we are pleased with our decision to join. He remembers our names and greets us personally every time we see him. She insisted I leave immediately and did not give me even a few minutes to get dressed in privacy. I felt my personal space was completely ignored, and her behavior came across as aggressive and disrespectful. My personal items were also handled carelessly and ended up on the floor, which made the situation even worse. When I tried to address the issue, the manager, Fox Memon, was not helpful at all. Instead of listening or showing any understanding, he defended the staff and tried to shift the blame onto me. He even threatened to report me to their insurance company because I had my child with me--something I was never informed was against their rules. I only come once or twice a month, and no one has ever explained this policy before. Because I felt unsafe and disrespected, I reported the incident to the Alameda Police Department so there would be official documentation of what happened. Based on how he handled everything, I honestly feel that Fox Memon does not suit a manager position, as his response made the situation even more stressful instead of resolving it professionally. Overall, I left feeling embarrassed, disrespected, and unsupported. I do not recommend this place and hope they seriously improve how they treat their customers.

Afterall, I live only a couple blocks away from Temescal Pool, why should I go all the way down to Mills to swim? Well, last August - after some pool princess put on flippers and decided that it was appropriate to swim UNDERNEATH other swimmers without checking in with them in advance of executing this plan and creating three near misses for head-on collisions and refusing to apologize ("I'm sorry if YOU were SCARED" instead of "Sorry - that was rude of me") - I went to Mills. It takes me 34 minutes to swim a mile at Mills - compared to 50-60 minutes at Temescal. Why, you may ask? TRAFFIC. The Temescal pool is always full of people - nobody is good about paying attention to pace in a lane and it's all circle swimming. Mills is pretty big, and I have never had to circle swim. People split the lanes - they get in, have their swim, get out. No sitting in the pool at the end of the lane chit chatting and blocking others from doing flip turns or any of this other nonsense you see at Temescal. If you're a serious fitness swimmer (vs social swimmer) - check out Mills. But - not too many of you - I don't want that place to get crowded! The downside of Mills is that they tend to move around the lap swimming schedule frequently and they are closed down for swim meets. The pool is also closed for two weeks in December (this year they closed several days earlier than advertised).

Fabulous - large, clean, not too expensive, and clear communication about hours, closures, etc.read more
