Yeah, my new favorite pool! And so close to home! Been there three times within the last week and feel the need to pack my bag right now and schlepp over there for a refreshing swim in the morning. Considering how lazy I usually am, this is quite something. So, about the pool: clear, clean, fresh, very little chemicals (I actually thought it was salt water when I first came, but the lady at the front desk told me that it's just a very subtle chemical which doesn't irritate your skin so much and is gentler to your hair). Enough room to swim without distrubance. There seem to be a lot of regulars who established special "rules". So don't be clueless like me :-) For example, if the place opens at noon after the morning break, people are already lining up outside. When they get in, they first leave their shoes or whatever at the lane they want to swim in and then go change. DON'T use these "pre-marked" lanes. They will hold your head under water until you give up! (no they won't, everybody is really nice and understanding with newbies). Lockers inside the changing rooms can be rented, the outside lockers are free and you need to provide your own lock. Frankly, I leave everything remotely valuable at home and just bring the necessities and leave them on the grass or in the eating area. This crowd does not seem to be interested in my undies. Love the spa after the swim. You can put the dial on the wall behind it on the number of minutes you want the jacuzzi to whirl. Better choose a low number, otherwise you get dizzy. 5-10 minutes is usually enough for my muscles to relax. Price: $7 per visit seems a bit steep (especially since I pay $10 for the whole month at my gym), but if you buy a punch card for 10 visits, you only pay $5.60 for each visit. The parking pass for the summer is $25, which is quite reasonable. You can park in the commuter spots along the main campus road with it.

It's behind a parking lot you'll see these stairs leading to the pool

I come here when my daughter gets sick of the beach and wants to swim in a pool. It's a good place for a swim. 7 bucks per person even if your only going to watch your kid swim.. Cool whatever, but they also hold your ID until your done swimming... apparently some people take too long in the locker room at clothing time. I hate handing over my ID bc sometimes I forget things. Overall not to crowded there's No swim test, and the lifeguards aren't at all overbearing. It's 5 minutes from my house and Mills College Campus where it's located is really pretty.

Trefethen pool. The area right in the front you see is the shallow part and the hot tub is all the way in the back.

What's the parking situation like at mills?

There is a large parking lot on campus. After you pass the entrance guard booth, turn right and you'll see it. We've never paid for parking there.

Can I walk laps in a lane?

Depends on the level of traffic when you're there. Sometimes there are few enough people that everyone gets their own lane, other times the swimmers have to split or even circle. Also, only the shallower 1/3 of lanes are possible to touch bottom.

Do they give swim lessons at this location? If so, where might I find that information?

Yes. Check their website for info.

How much do we have to pay for one day?

I believe that it's $7 a day but I buy a 10 swim pass for $56 (or $58? Don't remember)

A staff member yelled out that they won't be allowing anyone in once they hit max capacity. Understood. We get inside. The staff members (more like immature teens) screamed at adults and kids when someone ran. While I understand the importance of safety, the way they were yelling at kids/adults to walk felt harsh and unprofessional. It created a tense and uncomfortable environment, especially when it could have been handled more calmly and respectfully. All the teenage lifeguards screamed in sync, literally all at once screaming at them to walk!!!!!!! It was like we were in bootcamp. Then, as the day went on, we still had an hour and a half left, someone had an accident in the pool (a child pooped), the lifeguards screamed at everyone to get out. While quick evacuation is understandable in that situation, the reaction was over-the-top. We all definitely came out right away. What made it worse was that the lifeguards were celebrating afterward saying "F*CK YES!!" And laughing and excited because they got to leave early since they had to close the pool. It felt beyond unprofessional and insensitive to the families who paid to be there. If these kids hate their job, please do us all a favor and quit your job. To top it off, we were all told to leave the premises entirely, even though many of us, including my family, still had children eating. It was abrupt and handled poorly, with no consideration for those trying to wrap up their visit responsibly, we even still had an hour and a half left. I hope management can provide better training on how to communicate with children in a way that is firm but respectful. It's important to keep everyone safe, but how it's done matters just as much. On top of that, if there's a scheduled large group, they should have a better approach rather than having families with small children wait outside in the heat outside.

They have good hours and the lifeguards at the front office are super helpful. The pool itself is a bit unusual - one end is quite shallow so it takes a bit of getting used to it for doing flip turns. There are always kids around - and quite often children's swim teams practicing. When I first started swimming there, I kept hear the name "Marco" being yelled repeatedly and thought "This must be the worst game of Marco-Polo ever!" I later found out it was that one guy on the kids' swim team who doesn't hear instructions and keeps swimming when everyone else is stopping. The hot tub is not bad - it's quite big. It's sadly full of people who all seem to want to talk OVER the noise of the jets. I can only imagine what it must be like for the people who live in the canyon all around and have to hear banal conversations, frequently alcohol fueled as there are many people with cans of beer in the hot tub, about personal relationships and compost bins. While parking is plentiful - there are plenty of people who block the road because they can't be bothered to park and walk 20 feet. There are even some rather entitled white male Tesla drivers who will criticize another person's driving despite the fact that they had no problems parking themselves (and the parking lines are many, worn down, and contradictory at best). There's definitely a bit of elitist element among the long time/regulars. Finally, the locker rooms are a horror. They are not kept clean and could do with re-tiling. The lockers are a mess. The toilets are miniscule and not much bigger than what you'd find in an airplane. I do confess that the source of my discontent was a visit to Villa Sport in San Jose last summer -- and the realization that for HALF the money, I could be getting way way more value. Let's not even get into the strange cash-only deposits and lack of policy to suspend membership when out of town or out of commission for long periods of time. It's a really great pool and club for families -- it's got picnic tables, grills, and you can bring the au pair as part of your membership. Two stars for single people without kids who prefer clean lockerooms - but five stars for families with lower standards and more money.

Best for kids 18 months to 12 years because while the slides are fun, it's more family-friendly and less amusement-parkish than Hurricane Harbor in Concord or Calibunga/Raging Waters in San Jose. If you're ready to move your toddlers up from tot time at the San Ramon Aquatic Center, as I was, this is one step up from that. The staff member who was overseeing slides was really helpful when I told her that it was Jenbert Jr 1's first time going down a water slide ever. She told the others in line to wait for her while she gave JJ1 a little extra attention and how-to, which I appreciated. Pros: * Clean facilities * Free parking * Slide line wait times were less than 5 minutes when we went on Labor Day weekend around noon * Variety of activities from splash pad to slides to indoor or outdoor recreational swimming pool. We went to all three activities and enjoyed each. They didn't want to get out of the recreational pool when it was time to go, and it was less crowded. * More affordable than water amusement parks such as Calibunga and Hurricane Harbor, but to be fair, there isn't as much to do here. However, the focus at The Wave seems to be on quality, not quantity. Cons: * Pricing is for above and below 40". However, the slides have both a height (40") and weight (45 lb) requirement, and both must be met. Luckily, management will refund you if your child is over 40" but less than 45 lbs and cannot go on the slides. * Much like any other amusement park: cabanas/rented tables fill up quickly, can't bring in your own food.

Front desk staff was friendly and I was able to sign up for a 10 visit pass for $51, otherwise it's $6 a visit. I figured this will hopefully keep me consistent for the beginning of the year. The facility itself could use an upgrade but overall it is wat you would expect from an older building. The entrance into the pool is through the locker area which has lockers, changing area with benches, showers, and bathrooms. The pool looks fairly clean on the surface and we'll maintained. There are lanes divided into slow, fast, and medium speeds for circle swimming. Much of the demographics is 50+ during the time I went and they were all spaced out fairly evenly. The pool is actually open earlier for swim club members ($55/month) which is nice for early birds and the crowd seems younger at that time. I was told it's open to the public to sign up for that as well. The water itself was a good temperature. The pool goes from 3 ft to 9 ft. The bottom of the pool was clean on the 3 feet side, but had debris on the floor in the 9ft side. Folks would swim for about 30 minutes - 1 hour and more folks would flow into the lanes. Everyone is respectful and the regulars would chat with one another at the walls. There are kickboards and other supplies you can borrow from in a shed if you'd like. There is a lifeguard on duty. I asked her for the time, but she didn't know it, which I thought was odd because I could hear her talking on the phone or talking aloud. I asked another swimmer for the time and he said there's a clock right behind me, which I didn't see, and I'm surprised the lifeguard couldn't just tell me there was a clock to check. Apart from that, I enjoyed my one hour swim and got a reality check on how out of shape I am. I'll definitely come back to continue swimming and work my way up to the fast lane.
