So, today I attended my niece's "dance recital" and I must say I'm extremely disappointed. Firstly, the dances they are teaching the children are less that mediocre. Definitely not worth the price. The costumes are very nice but overpriced. This dance school is a major rip off! SECONDLY, I overheard the OWNER APRIL call a young African American girl a "biotch". This is after her making an announcement to the entire auditorium letting us know the that the girl would be arrested for what she stated was "illegally selling balloons" in front of south shore high school. She also proceeded to ask us NOT to purchase from her. Next I overheard her telling someone in her staff she was "dealing with the balloon biotch". VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. and extremely offensive as a woman to hear another woman call a young woman a bitch. Where most of the young women who attend her "dance studio" are young African American girls. Understanding business I understand where she stood with the balloon situation but the name calling was very unsettling to me. Moving forward, the company is a rip off. The students spend almost 12 months 2 days out of the week to learn routines for one-two performances. Then, while at the "recital" there are security guards who do not allow you to take photographs or videotape your child's performance. Instead, they offer a low quality video of the entire recital for $55.00. This whole company is based on money. April also let us know that put money goes to NYP hospital. Being that I am an employee I will be looking into this. But she should definitely take a class on professionalism. Instead of overcharging parents for horrible dance lessons and then using her "philanthropy" as a tax wrote off. I am highly disappointed and extremely saddened having contributed to paying for this. Many parents complain that the company is not helping their children advance nor does it really teach them anything. But as parents we love to see our children happy and keep them in positive activities. But I will e taking my business elsewhere as should you. read more
