My…read moreFrench door refrigerator with interior water dispenser and ice maker decided to stop dispensing water and was no longer making ice, but the more problematic issues were the lack of maintaining the programmed set refrigerator and freezer temperatures. Of course my concerns were risks of water lines, electronic, or compressor failures. Setting an appointment by phone with Lisa was super easy. When Mark arrived, he was prepared to do a full evaluation of the refrigerator. I was prepared to hear the news that I needed a new refrigerator or that any repair costs would be almost as expensive. Well, let me tell you that Mark suggested only a minor adjustment to one of the internal refrigerator components, then giving that a few days of my monitoring the internal temperatures to see if that adjustment worked to maintain the temps within a range and to call the company with the results. That adjustment worked, which indicated to Mark that the problem was with the damper in the refrigerator. When Mark returned a week later, he had the new damper which he installed. The problem with the water dispenser was solved by installing a new filter. While he was there, I had him remove the ice maker which I rarely used anyway (giving me more room in the freezer). I share all this detail because unlike so many businesses, Action Appliance Repair is scrupulously honest, and never once tried to upsell me on anything unnecessary. This is a company that is definitely on my "CALL THEM FIRST" list for any appliance repairs.

Well, it was working the first couple days after we got home so I had restocked it with groceries but it stopped cooling on Wednesday and I found my freezer had begun to defrost with an error code. The error code indicated one of 2 things: the compressor or a refrigerant leak. Either way, we could not repair it on our own. I contacted a few repair companies via Yelp. One told me they did not work on LG brand refrigerators. Lame. The others gave me a few online quotations for the diagnostic fee which would be incorporated into the final fee if we decided to proceed, along with next availability. I was hesitant at first, secretly hoping that the error would resolve on its own but by the next day, we had to get ice and triage the situation. I had to throw out so much food! I contacted Zhan Appliance Repair as Zhan was friendly and helpful via Yelp messaging. He gave me a time on Friday and showed up within the proposed time window. He took a look at the fridge and let us know it was the compressor. Oh boy. He asked if we had the receipt for the fridge and while it was 5 years old, he let us know we still had a warranty on the compressor, which they could replace for us. They would just charge for the labor. The labor is warrantied for a year. Instead of waiting on LG to send a compressor, he said they had one in-stock at their shop and we would leverage our LG warranty for them to obtain the replacement. We decided to proceed with the repair as we were quoted 1/3 of what we paid for the fridge. A new fridge was not on my BINGO card after a vacation. We had to schedule the repair for Monday as they did not have any appointments available over the weekend. Luckily, my neighbor let us place a couple items in their fridge while we waited on repairs. Oman arrived within the time window we were quoted. He replaced the compressor and my fridge started working again. We were told to let it cool for 24 hours before filling it with food. Zhan checked in the following day to see how it was working and at that time it was. A few days later, I let Zhan know that the freezer was still defrosting and he said it probably needed a recharge of Freon. So Oman came back out to recharge the refrigerant. It's been another week and a half and I've since bought fridge & freezer thermometers so I can monitor the situation better. The food is staying cold and the freezer is freezing for the most part. I'm happy that our fridge got fixed and we did not have to buy a new one. Now we just need to get the water line working.
