If there was a "TORE UP STOVE WORSE" option I would have chosen that. One of the eyes on my smooth top stove stopped working. I checked repair companies & chose Appliance Repair Sofkee based largely on the reviews. I was told the initial diagnosis was $75. I made an appointment for May 8. On May 6 the company called me to advise that only 1 tech was qualified to work on Kenmore?? That tech would not be available. They asked if I wanted to reschedule or cancel. What reputable company gives cancellation as an initial option? I rescheduled for May 12. Well, Noel shows up to diagnosis. He gave me his personal business card & advised that he had his own repair company & he worked as a sub-contractor for this business. He advised that it was a bad switch, he would order & it should be in the next day. After he left I texted to ask what the price would be & he responded $205. On May 16, Noel replaced the switch. When power was turned on & he turned the eye on...POP...Not only did the 1st eye not work but it had now blown out the 2nd eye as well. He didn't know why & repeatedly advised that he was not an electrician. Shouldn't you know how to repair a stove if you are a Kenmore trained appliance repairman? Now I needed 2 switches. Noel advised he would pay for the 2nd eye. I texted May 18 to ask if parts were in yet. No response. I texted again May 19 and he replied that he was waiting on. I texted May 21 to ask when parts would be in. He replied "Tuesday". Well on Tuesday May 25 I texted again to ask what time he would be coming & if he couldn't fix to at least let me know. No response. On May 26 I called the company and asked to speak with the manager or owner. This is the company I selected to repair my stove. Not some sub contractor that they apparently feel they are not responsible for?? They said someone would call me back within 2 hours I advised DO NOT GIVE TO NOEL. To this day I have NEVER received a call back from the manager or owner. On May 27 Noel called and asked if I still wanted him to get parts or did I want to find someone else . (I thought he got the parts May 25) I told him I was beginning to suspect he didn't know how to fix. He said he knew how and didn't blow out the 2nd eye on purpose. I advised him to get parts and come fix. On May 29 I texted to ask if parts were in & if so, when was he coming. No response. On May 30 I texted to ask if parts were in & when coming. Noel replied "Tuesday". On Wednesday June 2 I texted to ask if the parts had indeed come in. Noel responded that it just came in & he would be here in the morning. Well on June 3 Noel came. With the help of his cell phone (googled how to do??) he replaced 2 switches. Once the power was back on the eye that I initially called for repair on still did not work. He said he did not know what was wrong and again "he was not an electrician". When he tried the 2nd eye that had blown it turned on. As soon as he left I turned the 2nd eye on and POP..SPARKS...it blew out again...I called Noel this time & he said he did not know what was wrong, unable to fix and all he knew to do was give me back my money ($205) The next morning Noel called before arriving. He advised that he had been thinking and he would agree to give me back 1/2 of my money ($100) He gave me a $100 "refund". At this point I just wanted this whole company to go away. So now I not only don't have my 1st eye that was the whole problem to begin with but I have been blessed with a blown 2nd eye as well. All for the low price of $105!!
What reputable company does not return an upset customer's call??? Who charges ANYTHING besides the initial diagnosis when not able to repair a product? In hindsight I now know that I should have stopped payment on my check for NO repairs. I hope sharing my nightmare saves at least one prospective customer from learning an expensive lesson. Always get personal references. Never go by just the rating/reviews found online. For all we know they could be reviews from relatives. read more
