We used Appliance Doc twice in one month as our two refrigerators decided to act up at the same time. I decided to go with these guys thanks to the Yelpers, and have to admit once again I am so happy to be a dedicated Yelper. First problem was with the spare refrigerator which all of a sudden decided not to cool down and we noticed the melting effect in the freezer section, Paul showed up as promised, very friendly, worked on it and did the job for $50, and commented that if it does not fix the problem he will need to replace the electronic board which would cost us more. He did not want us to spend the extra money and offered if he has to come back, he will credit us that money. A month later, no issues. The second time, it was our ice maker for our side-side KitchenAid fridge which so many people would not touch, but Paul replaced the ice maker unit again reasonable, we noticed it stopped making ice in 48 hours. He came back with a new unit in case, and sure enough the first unit he had used was a factory faulty device and he replaced it, again a month later, we are happy having cold ice in the hot weather we are having. Took away one star for the faulty ice maker unit. Otherwise happy with the work and will call on them for other work if ever needed (which I hope I would not have to), will definitely recommend to friends and family. read more

My 17 year old Maytag Double Stack washer and dryer had issues spinning the other day and Paul came to the rescue. I had already done the research of what the issue could have been and Paul made an accurate diagnosis with seemingly lots of experience under his belt. He had seen this problem many a times. Shortly after Paul made his first visit (80.00) our dishwasher started acting up again with the same problem. We called and he sent a technician out (not him) who did more stuff to the dishwasher which costs 150.00 and the dishwasher is still doing the same thing. So far, we have spent 230.00 on a dishwasher that cost 750.00 and is a little over a year old. I am not happy with that and the fact that I spent that much and it is still broken. Extremely unhappy with the service. Our service person was named Brian and quite rude. He came in for an initial assessment and asked for payment prior to him even working on fixing our broken garbage disposal. I have not recalled a single place that asked for payment and thinking we would just not pay once he fixed it. Absolutely terrible. If that wasn't enough, a few days after he left, we tried using the replacement garbage disposal and now there is a huge water leak. Our kitchen is partially flooded now thanks to them. First American Work order # 602839451 for Viking Refrigerator. Paul, owner and technician from Appliance Doc was dispatched to my home by First American Warranty to fix a leak from my Viking refrigerator. Paul made a false representation claiming that he is a "Viking Certified Technician" and knows nothing about repairing Vikings. He also made a false verbal report to First American of the issues without properly assessing the problem. He made this diagnosis by simply looking underneath the refrigerator without with removing the refrigerator from the wall. He reported that the Viking refrigerator was dropped, broke the left wheel and the leak was coming from the internal thermal shells. Thus, voiding the warranty because the internal thermal shells are not covered and the damage or issues is not normal wear and tear. The refrigerator was never dropped and there were no signs or evidence that there is damage to the bottom to the refrigerator and Paul refused to write a full written report to First American of his findings and repairs so that my refrigerator could to be reinstated to my warranty. To have my Viking fixed and reinstated to my warranty, First American sent another technician, Milton from Tri Valley Home Improvement. Tri Valley Improvement is a certified Viking and Sub-zero technician and they are very professional. They fixed all the issues including all leaks, sealed system and compressor. Stay away! We rent out our condo in downtown, and when our tenant complained that clothes where taking 2 hours to dry, we contacted Appliance Doc based on excellent Yelp reviews. We were given a 1 hour window for the repairman to show up. I asked that he call my cell phone 15 minutes before he arrived so that I could be waiting in the lobby to let him into the building. Well, the hour came and went but repairman never showed. I called to check if he was on his way at the very end of our window but no one picked up. I left a voicemail, no response. We'll never know if they would have done a good job fixing the dryer, because we will certainly not be using these flakes in the future. read more

Did a decent enough and cost-effective enough repair! Many thanks for that, definitely better to get an affordable repair than to e.g. replace a unit completely for like almost literally 10x the cost. However, I had stayed home from work for the morning appointment we'd set up to get the repair done, and nobody showed up... 45 mins after the set time I called in and found out the appointment had been apparently forgotten and missed. Since I was already late for work I stuck around to wait to get things done then and there. No apology or acknowledgement was ever forthcoming about the whole gee whiz we completely botched the appointment as if you don't have a day job to get to thing, so that kinda wasn't the best customer relations. Paul repaired our dishwasher for $220 and a few months later it got broken again. This time his diagnose was: "the motor is broken" and gave an estimate of $175. He never mentioned the charge for the second visit but when he was done with his "estimate" announced: "by the way i charge fees for visits, but it's ok you can just give me $40". I did. But it didn't feel right to pay another $175 - we could've got a new machine by then!!! So we call another guy - Ted -408-506-6149 (Appliance Rescue 911) for second opinion. He came, he diagnosed for free and said that the problem was likely the wrong installation which we can try to fix ourselves if we want. My husband moved the machine and voila!! it start working better then ever... Long story short - I called Paul and told him about that, asked if any chance he wants to return our $40 and apologize that he almost cost us another $175. His response: "I charged you $40? hmm...I probably gave you a discount cause I usually charge $75"....Did he return the money? You guess the ending of this story.... One is rather over a barrel when it comes to appliance repair, isn't one? It's like car repair: unless you know anything about it or can fix it yourself, you're basically stuck with whatever the repair person tells you, and hopefully you have an honest repair person. They could say, "Oh here's the problem, you've got a busted Falmouth cam-shaft tube!" and you'd be all "Well omg, let's get me a NEW one then!", and you wouldn't really know if there even WAS such a thing as a Falmouth cam-shaft tube, would you? No, you wouldn't. Well, you have NO WORRIES about that kind of thing with Appliance Doc. He'll fix whatever is broken and his prices are very reasonable. He fixed my washing machine and actually showed me the broken part. As I know nothing about washers beyond how to use them, I was thrilled and relieved that I can do my laundry again. My washer is as good as new. And this guy is polite and very friendly, calling back a few days after the service job to see if everything was satisfactory. It certainly was! A+ service! read more

Wow! Cleaning on a Sunday and my dishwasher wouldn't start. I was super bummed because I'm far too lazy to do my own dishes, and I certainly can't have cereal without a bowl. I found Appliance Doc on yelp and figured with such great reviews he had to be at least a safe bet. I called Sunday at at 3:45, figuring I'd leave a message for the following day. Well, lucky me, the owner called back in 10 minutes and said he was availble in 20 minutes. Yes, twenty minutes, ON A SUNDAY. He showed up right about 20 minutes later, spent about 15 minutes diagnosing my dishwasher's problems (daddy issues + repressed rage), got it running, and showed me the part that it may need some day if this happens again. He was out the door in 20 minutes charging me $40.00 for the service call. Best Sunday $40 bucks ever spent. Now my dishwasher is happily humming along, presumably until it freaks out again one Sunday and needs a little technician love. read more

Our Maytag Neptune Washer was acting strange for a while. We would have to manually unlock the door or it would stay locked forever. Then a few days ago the door would not lock at all so the spin cycle never got engaged. I called around and everyone was booked until at least Monday. I got lucky when I called Paul and he happened to be just a few blocks away! He was on another call and said he would stop by as soon as he was done there. He came by less than an hour later, diagnosed my washer, called the shop, got the part and said he would be back before the end of the day to fix it. The stoves on my electric range broke down. So I sent them a text message on Saturday with the part number for my electric range from the manual. Their first text reply verbatim was - "What would you think I can do with a No Longer Available Part ?" I sent the same text to Appliance Rescue 911, and they asked me to check the downdraft vent for a sticker or manual, and were able to look up the model no, and get back to me with a quote for parts and labor. While "Appliance Doc" probably lack experience in repairing electric ranges, they could have been a little more helpful or at least not as rude in their very first interaction. My review is limited only to the response and service quality, as I elected to not have any repair work. Our expensive refridgerator died (on the Fridge side, but not the freezer). I called at around 11am, and someone came out at 3pm: that's a pretty nice response time, considering they are at least 25 minutes away and service a large area. The guy was nice and seemed well-informed. He provided an estimate of work after a short time, and informed us of the problem. The work was too expensive for us, so we are going to look at getting a replacement, otherwise, we will get the work done and I'll update this review. read more

This guy really knows his stuff. I had called about a dryer that would not work properly. I called and scheduled an appointment for the next day. Paul was having issues with scheduling and we ended up seeing him later in the afternoon. Within 5 minutes he had identified and resolved the issue. Instead of buying a new dryer we just needed to clear the vent. He suggested ongoing maintenance to keep it clear ourselves and our dryer has never worked as well as it does now. read more

My GE Profile fridge was having a nervous breakdown. It would freeze my veggies, defrost and refreeze my ice cream, and freezer burn everything. I would open the freezer and find thick sheets of ice cascading down from the ice maker, which had stopped working as well. It expressed its displeasure by growling loudly - to the point where I had to turn up the TV when the fan would kick on! I thought my beautiful, $2500 fridge was on its last stainless steel leg. I talked to Paul on the phone, told him what was happening and he said oh, it's no problem. It's the sensor and computer board, I can fix it for $350. I was skeptical but agreed. How could he know without even looking at it? He showed up early (but not before calling first) and got right to work. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing, had my freezer apart in a few minutes, replaced the sensor and put it all back together. Then he pulled the fridge out - and after I tried not to die of embarrassment over what was under it - he very gently reminded me to pull the fridge out every year and sweep the dust away or the compressor would burn out. After he replaced the computer board in the back, he unscrewed a large panel at the bottom so I could vacuum the inches of dust off the compressor motor. He did not have to do that - he also didn't charge me for the extra labor. This guy is the real deal, I'm so glad I called! My fridge works perfectly again and purrs like a kitten! Nope. Called this place when my GE refrigerator wasn't dispensing ice. He was on the phone the whole time while looking at the fridge and told me a bunch of things were broken that all together was about $700. I decided to call GE. They came and replaced my water filter inside the fridge and voila... The ice works fine again. The "appliance doc" did not even check the water line or water filter or whatever. Glad I called GE. As first time home buyers, whenever something goes wrong in the house my husband and I stare at each other dumbfounded thinking, "shit, what do we do?!" We had an "oh shit" moment when the fridge stopped working. Something was wrong with the house furnace/heater. It wouldn't ignite. I called the Appliance Doc the day after Christmas. He had guests over at the time, understandable. We weren't in a rush to get the heater fixed. He called the next day and gave me a time frame when he would arrive. The diagnostic and repair was really quick! He checked out the issue, went out to get the replacement part, came back and installed. $180. Everything is working now and we got heat coming through the whole house! Excellent! Needed a motor replaced in my dryer. Sears was going to take a week to show up and cost $350. Phil from Appliance Doc showed up the same day and did the work for $250. Everything was great until he left. I was left with a huge mess to clean up. Dirt all over the floor and walls, grease on the dryer and washer, etc. I would consider using again simply because of their ability to show up quickly and the low price. However, if I had another viable option, I would definately consider using someone else. read more

So, our washer goes on the fritz. I go online to the manufacturer's web page to find a "Factory Authorized Dealer" and I am given a selection of dates, with the soonest being three days away. "Bleep this!" I say out loud, and look up the recommended repair shop, "AE Factory Service" on Yelp to see if it is worth the wait. 1 1/2 stars, and from a quick scan of the reviews, they were lucky to get that. So, since I'm already on Yelp, I search for "appliance repair" and come up with two local 4+ rated vendors. I picked this one. On the phone, I got Paul, and immediately went back in time to service like it used to be: no central switchboard scheduling a "technician" to arrive at some future date within a 4 hour window. I was actually talking to the repair guy (in this case) telling me that he could be at my house in less than an hour. Paul shows up, as promised, takes about 90 seconds to disassemble my washer and shows me the broken part (a plastic vacuum break). He calls in to find if the part is in stock, finds out that it is, and give me an immediate and reasonable quote. I approve, and Paul promises to be back in 45 minutes after getting the part from the warehouse. Paul came back in 20 minutes with the part. It only took him about 3 minutes for him to install the new part, reassemble the washer and run a test. Done! I told Paul that I was putting him on my contacts list and writing up this Yelp review. Caveat: Appliance Doc does not take credit cards, but they do accept checks. Again, IMHO, this only adds to the old-time charm of this establishment. read more

We had a problem with our Kitchenaid in-door icemaker and after a less than stellar experience with a different problem and another repair company, I checked Yelp for advice. About 5 minutes after I left a message with Paul, he called back and was at our house in less than an hour. He quickly diagnosed the problem, replaced the part and bingo, we have ice. He also noticed our built-in Kitchenaid microwave / oven and said they were notorious for a door spring problem, so he fixed that too. Called at 9 am, talked to Paul, he gave me a fair est., gave 11 am appt time. Checked out my washer/dryer ordered new "rubber boot," will be back in 2 days to install and do tune-up/cleaning. All for under his estimate price. here's where it gets good. I ask him to look at my fridge that wont dispense ice, only water. Takes him a few minutes to take the panel apart and check voltages, then he asks if doors were ever taken off... Uh-oh, yes, and after that (remodel) ice dispenser never worked. Well turns out the wires were cut and I'd need a new door. So, I'll be manually dispensing ice. Nice to know, though, and even nicer: No Charge. I'll check in after actual work is done. read more

Life saver. I have a home warranty protection plan which originally assigned a different repair company to me. The 1st company left me in a mess during the Thanksgiving holiday since my stove wasn't working. When we called Appliance Doc they came right away to repair it. Very professional and courteous. In order to repair the stove they required a part which they did not have on hand. But after calling their distributors they were able to find a warehouse that had it locally. Paul couldn't get my refrigerator fixed after the first try but he was honest up front, a real nice guy, super affordable, and professional. I just didn't want to spend any more money trying to get whatever was wrong with my fridge fixed. The easiest solution to stop the leak was to turn off the water supply to the fridge and disable the ice maker. Anyways the first time my fridge leaked I called Kitchen Aid and they said I was out of the warranty period and they hooked me up with their nation wide service, a company called ACE. This being my first time experiencing a faulty appliance I didn't know any better and just went with the manufacturers recommended repair company. They gave me a ridiculous window and I had to take a day off from work to wait for the repair guy, who showed up late and later after talking to him found out he's actually 2 hours behind schedule and still had two other locations he had to visit. I had a disappointing experience with ACE and ended up costing me twice as much for basically is what I consider no work than what Paul charged me. I yelped for appliance repair work and there were several recommended services. I called up Paul and he said he was available the same day. He was a little bit late and I had to call him to make sure he was still coming. He came in and went to work right away to try to troubleshoot the leaking issue. He diagnosed that it might be the casing to the filter and recommended I get that replaced. He called in an order for a new filter casing and said he'd come back the next day to have it installed. He told me to call him up and remind him. Next day I called him and he forgot about it, but eventually came on a weekend to install and fix the fridge for me. Later I found out my fridge still had a leak but pretty much gave up wanting it fixed. He pretty much told me up front from day one that sometimes he makes mistakes too and knows he isn't perfect and can't fix everything. He's fair, convenient and reliable. Paul had too many appointments that day so he had his tech (Gilbert) come instead. It took a few tries to figure it out (both Paul and Gilbert came out on a Sunday on the final try) but it was finally fixed! Their prices are great too!
