Food - good. Service - good. Paying for meal - horrendous!!!!!!!!! Had a $20 gift card from our son in law. Waitress did NOT take it off of our bill. We argued, put it in the payment folder. Had NOT been used previously! Believe waitress Lacey put it in her pocket and then charged us the full amount for our meal!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally a YOUNG manager came out and took $20 off of our bill. We gave them a tip for the full amount of our bill. Now I have an extra tip amount on our credit card account!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is horse shit! Will never step foot in that restaurant again! The chicken was very undercooked, so I just picked around it until our server came back to our table, but our server never came back until she came to give us our checks. She mixed up our orders and checks and did not want to correct them, so the lady we were meeting with just covered the incorrect bill. We gave our waitress a 20% tip, but you could see that she became visibly upset, and when we passed our empty plates to her, she said she'd get them later. So we sat there with half-cooked food on our plates and empty glasses, while our waitress went and sat on her phone. My friends and I went here to eat before our hoco dance, we waited for over 40 minutes, and ended up getting cold melted ice cream and lava melt (which I was told I was going to get a new bowl of) chicken wings, French fries, steak, mash potatoes, and cheeseburgers. So angry, tired and disappointed....On a long business trip. Tired after a 13 hr day. Call Waverly IA Applebee's place an order for pickup. Verify the address and road to turn on, etc as we have never been there. Even get a total for our order. Show up 30 minutes later to be told they have no order for us BY THE SAME voice that took the order. Makes me verify the number I called. Yup right number. Jeff ( the manager) started yelling at the 2 waiters right in front of all the customers and one of the waiters said to him are you really going to do this out here and Jeff said fine go to the back and stick both of his fingers in the air and points to the back. About 10 minutes goes by and I'm still hearing yelling from the back. I looked at the bar where all the food is before it gets taken out and it's completely full. The manager comped my meals but that doesn't excuse himself from yelling at employees in front of the customers. He shouldn't been yelling at them in the first place. A below-average type of Applebees. They recently renovated it, so it definitely has a prettier appearance to some Applebees - and I love that they've taken the time to put up a lot of decor from the local area - such as Wartburg decor or sports team photos from the high schools and whatnot. It had decent-ish food with decent-ish prices. About what you'd expect at an Applebees. At the very least, Applebees usually has about the same type of bland-ish food at each location - but it's reliably the same, so I can usually order the same thing anywhere and expect the same flavor. The same is true here. I enjoy my dish - which is why I come back - and their 2 for $20 menu means that my partner and I can eat with two soft drinks, an appetizer, and two entrees for usually less than $30 with tip. That makes it a decent deal for us. From our table, one person received overdone chicken, another person's steak was well overcooked from medium rare, and another person thought their bread was overcooked. The issue here comes with the service. We were in today, and while we were seated promptly and most people were polite, we just really didn't receive great service. Nobody was outright rude, but at our 5-person table, most of our drinks were left unfilled - in fact, we only received one refill throughout the entire hour we were here - while most of the people drinking water went through their beverage decently quickly and were ready for another. There was a 10+ minute wait to get our check. This might have been somewhat-excusable during a busy day - except we saw our waitress (and other wait staff) sitting and chatting it up at the bar for most of our visit. I certainly don't think employees don't deserve any fun time. They do. But when the restaurant was almost entirely empty at a noon on Sunday, and we were still mostly being ignored, it's not the time for that. Tend to your job - and then relax. Hopefully we'll have a better experience next time we come back. Today's experience was functional, but with the pretty "meh" food quality that Applebees is known for, they really have to shine in service, and today that just wasn't happening. read more

Place sucks, when seated I'm sat at a table with no leg room. After seated we order and the food takes 43 minutes to get one appetizer when we had 2 other plates and another 5 to get the rest. When we finally got our food it was room temperature-cold and it was not very good. The steak I ordered to be medium-rare was delivered well done with broccoli that was cold and very mediocre mashed potatoes. I have visited this Applebee's location 3 times. Each time there have been serious problems with the wait staff. During my first visit, after being seated, and only having two other tables occupied in the restaurant, it took almost 20 minutes to be seen by a server and that was only after having to flag one down. The food was mediocre at best. I gave them a second chance about a week later. My son was served something completely different than what he ordered. We decided to give them one last chance when we had guests in from out of town. Once again, the service was poor as more than one of us in our party were served the wrong dish. I understand that restaurants can sometimes have an off night here and there, but to have issues three visits in a row, and for food that is isn't anything above other similar chain restaurants, it would take a lot for me to decide to give this location another try. read more

If they could learn to cook a steak, my family and I would eat their more often. Nearly every single time we've ordered steak they drastically over cook it. We've resulted to ordering our steaks rare and hope it comes as medium/medium rare. The hosts are somewhat of a hit and miss. Sometimes they're friendly and welcoming, other times we walk in and sometimes feel like a burden. Aside from that, the servers are pretty good. We have a server we always ask for when she's working. I gave this Applebee's a 1 star, which was incredibly generous. This could be, no no no, is the worst Applebee's in the entire universe. Absolutely horrible service. Every time we come, the drinks take at least ten minutes to get to us. It doesn't only stop at alcoholic drinks. If you order a water, be prepared to have the most lukewarm and terrible water this state has to offer. The service is so slow it is ridiculous. One time we had a waitress blowing her freshly smoked cigarette smoke in our faces as she helped us. The only reason we continue to come is because of their half apps, which almost every other time we order them, something is messed up. They do not know how to cook food and take orders, as we regularly have things coming out horribly made and wrong. I thought it would eventually get better, but no. Not even a little bit. This is probably the eighth or ninth time we have been here and it is consistently horrible service. I don't understand who would run such a terrible establishment. I am in utter disbelief of this monstrosity of a business. The only reason it is still running is because of the lack of decent places to eat in the town of Waverly. Please trust me, this will be one of the most frustrating experiences of your life if you go here. But, you will, because of the name Applebee's. This isn't even deserving of the name Applebee's. This is a horrendously ran and worked place to eat that should have no place in the world today especially in the town of Waverly. I wouldn't even give this place one star, but that's the lowest it would allow me to go. We sat and waited 20 minutes to order our food. As we got our appetizer, we were given no plates to use and we would've asked but NO ONE came to our table. We then got our main dishes and our waiter didn't even take our empty appetizer plate. We finished eating and waited another 20 minutes before I asked for our bill. But what really bothered us is that they messed up a couples order a few tables down and EVERY waiter went to their table to apologize and give them discounts and free food.
