It's Applebees so you don't expect much from the food. However this location has the most ratchet guests ever. I travel for a living and I can tell you I have never experienced what I experienced at this restaurant. read more

My friend and I went with our 4 kids. We got there around 730p. By 9pm, we had gotten 1 kids meal, and 3 appetizers- one of which was not correct per order. At this point we asked to cancel and leave because the kids were hungry and there was no sign of our food. The table behind us got their food and they arrived 30 minutes or more after us. The waitress was very nice and apologetic- she seemed to be new. When she went to the back to have our food canceled and bring tickets that reflected what we actually received, the manager would not remove two of our entrées. These entrées never came in sight of the table. We ended up having to send tickets back three times to get them corrected because drinks were added that weren't received and the manager would not remove the entrées. When I asked to speak to the manager, he would not come out to the table. I'm 31 and this is the first time in my life I've felt so angry at the service my family received. I believe he may have came to the table at some point to bring an updated receipt, but quickly left and did not introduce himself. The waitress said there was a second manager there- which we never did see- and at some point another waitress came over and tried to talk poorly about the waitress we had putting blame on her- hot mess express. By time we got out of there, Taco Bell next door didn't have anything but tacos left- and they were not the good tacos either. My friend on the other hand went to Wawa to get us some drinks after this experience, during which time the bottom of the 12pk box broke and glass/bold rock went everywhere. I was a little hesitant to stop here given past reviews but it was so convenient I decided to give it a try. The service and food were excellent on both nights. Lots of local regulars who knew the waitstaff created a warm and inviting dinner for a traveler. The food and service were far superior to my local location. read more

When we got settled with our food, the server never gave us napkins or the extra sauce we asked for. instead, she ran outside and started smoking with friends. When we finished our food, she took forever to give us the check. We sat there for about 30 minutes until she gave it to us. I don't recommend using the bathrooms because they suck. Theyre not clean, they smell bad, and there was stuff smeared on the walls. Really disgusting and worst experience. read more

We can't rate the food as we never got any... we should have left when the waitress said it might be a minute since we are short staffed... well 30 minutes later she realizes she never put in our order ... 40 minutes later the manger offers to pay for our meal if we'll let them make it. We stopped here while visiting in Tappahannock and we were very pleased with how friendly our server was and how all of our food was just delicious. I was pleasantly surprised as I didn't know what to except because we do not have an Applebees close to home. I wish I could remember our servers name but she was exceptional. I would recommend the queso and chips as an appetizer. We got a variety of items off the menu from steak to fish. All was very good. read more

Not the best Applebee's I've ever been to, or the worst. It's convenient when traveling on route 17 from Maryland to the Norfolk area. Service is always good and the employees are very friendly. What detracts from more stars for this particular restaurant is cleanliness. The whole place could use a good scrubbing. The menu is fairly extensive. Food has always been good when I have eaten here. I particularly like the quesadilla burger. Prices are a little steep but not outrageous. read more

Don't bother with this restaurant if you are in the area! Our server was overwhelmed and her manager was no where to be found. We ordered the 2 for $25 and it was a disappointment. My chicken and shrimp was ok but my husband's 6 oz. steak was less than 3 oz and 1/3 was fat. The waitress attempted to find the manager through most our meal, to no avail. We finally told her to just pass on how disappointed we were. Kicker is she did tell us that when she found the manager she shared our concerns and the manager didn't bother to come to our table. She did visit the table next to us who were complaining about their alcoholic beverages...she went right to the bar and made them new ones. Management is nearly nonexistent in this Applebee's location. It seems increasingly the norm at Applebee's nearly everywhere I've been recently. It began with nearly ten minutes to get our beverage service, then nearly 40 minutes for our entrees -- oriental chicken salad and a fajita wrap. We also had to ask twice for utensils. As we waited in a nearly empty restaurant save for around five tables of people, the manager had to meet with two of the tables to apologize for slow service and incorrect orders. Tables and seating were worn and unkempt as well. The server was pleasant enough but never refilled our soft drink and asked if we needed anything "before she stepped away." Considering she'd been away the whole meal, we asked for our check and left from what will be our last trip to Applebee's. read more

This is the worse managed restaurant that I've ever been to. Came here for dinner with a party of 10. Well there was another party of ten there waiting. They set up one table for ten and told both parties their table was ready. We had already waited 30 minutes and then had to wait another hour for a table. They seated us at two separate tables (no apologies or anything). Had to wait another hour for dinner. The manager walks around asking how is everything and when you tell him, he does nothing about it. He should have been replaced a long time ago. I have never come here where I didn't have a problem with something. Won't be comin back here!!! read more

Not good at all. I ordered a margarita (that arrived after about 15 minutes - our waitress said she could not find the bartender) that arrived with a dirty glass that was rimmed with straight up table salt. That was a first. I ordered shrimp which arrived smelling like they had gone bad. I ate one shrimp before sending it back. No one apologized or asked what was wrong. I was then only given a partial refund. The waitress couldn't explain how the amount was determined. The manager then came over and he too was unable to explain how the amount was determined. Terrible service Sunday! Got there about 1pm, medium crowd, few wait staff. Slow and unfamiliar with menu. Three waited on us, wrong meal served, no merlot wine, no beer of my brand and it was a common one. Bill was wrong one brought to the table, manager visited and was unhelpful, couldn't provide a knife when asked, "all were in the dishwasher". How is that even possible? Have been there multiple times, will not visit again! read more

Brought our 93 year old mother here for lunch. Sullie and Mike (our waiter and manager) treated us like family. Food was great, service excellent, and a terrific dining experience. This is an Applebees that is truly a cut above. read more

Where does one starts when it was all bad from the beginning? The server was not friendly. She took forever to come and ask for our drinks and even much longer to take our order. One other customer next to our table did not receive his drink until another waitress served him. His food arrived long before ours and we were here before him. Even the host helped him several times, but never did anything for us like for him. Another waitress came with our food and we expressed how poorly we have been waited on, and she said she would bring us a few items were still needed. Even trying to pay for our meal was time consuming. As I was existing the host said she hoped to see me again soon. That's when I said probably it will be a LONG time before coming back here. Unknowingly, the manager was walking in at the same time and asked to share with him what caused such an experienced. I could continue, but I feel the point has been expressed. Yes, the manager did try to turn our experience around, yet it has been weeks and we have not heard from him even though he sounded like our email addresses would be helpful. It's not easy to open up and truly express your experience. This was another lesson learned. read more

Started out good bringing us cold beer and promptly. As we sat waiting on our meal on a Thursday evening at 5pm, I watched an off duty employee continuously going into the kitchen to converse with working employees. Now mind you, ALL of the employees had on their face masks to comply with COVID-19 guidelines, the off duty employee however DID NOT. Our meal finally gets to us, my pasta was luke warm, my boyfriend's only came with one side, fine whatever. Then it gets REALLY good. The off duty employee, a younger blonde female, starts getting VERY loud in the bar area and yelling for the manager John, once again she runs back into the kitchen, & back into the bar area. The verbal altercation gets LOUDER as they start screaming profanities at each other. All the manager said to us was "Sorry if y'all heard anything." And walked off. Complete and total trash. I don't understand how this establishment is still open. read more

This is the worst Applebee's I have ever been to. I live in Tappahannock and will drive to Mechanicsville or Fredericksburg almost an hour away rather than go here. They never seem to have enough staff or perhaps the staff they have is just so slow that it seems they are short. Every time I have decided to try it "one more time" it ends up being a 2 hour ordeal for dinner. I have only tried twice for lunch and both times took well over an hour for a salad and I was late returning to work. The last time my family went, they ended up walking out after a half an hour had passed and they did not even receive their drink order (sodas and water, not bar drinks.) Never again. read more

I don't know how they stay in business. Our waitress looked like she was coming off a 3 day binge. She sat us down and let us know she was "tired".... ok. She was on her phone walking around the restaurant like she was at home. Literally texting someone as she brought things to the table. My husband and I both got a cup of soup and a house salad. Since this is the only chain restaurant anywhere near our home, we tend to frequent it rather often. There have been multiple issues with eating here...from giving me one type of steak and claiming it's a higher quality one (I know my steaks!), to really bad service, and extremely long wait times for food, even when it's not super-busy. The managers here have always been amazing and have always done their best to accommodate any mistake or issues with our food. I've found, at this location, eating in the bar area is generally a better experience. They have a great bartender in the evenings who takes really good care of everyone in the bar section, so that's where we always sit now. Sometimes you'll get the b-team when you come in, so evenings are your better bet in that respect. Not the best Applebee's I've ever eaten at, but it's not the worst, either. read more

Our waitress was friendly but we had to send my wife's steak back. We both ordered the same sirloin cooked medium, mine came out medium rare and hers really well done. Not sure how that even happens if they were cooked dat the same time. Manager didn't bother to come and speak to us. read more

Well my family and I were on holiday visiting relatives when we suddenly wanted to enjoy a nice quite meal at the local/only bar that Tappahannock had to offer. As we sat down at the local Applebee's we were overcome with a feeling of being watch as we were out of place and obviously not locals. Our ordering got off to a great start with the beverage section as our waiter forgot our drink order several times because he forgot his notepad. After getting the wrong drinks we took a shot with the actual meal. The appetizer was cold as it was served 1 hour later, along with the entrees to promptly follow after another hour. We arrived at approximately 10 pm on Saturday evening. We were greated by the hostess and seated at a table in the bar area. Since it was later in the evening, it was not particularly busy at that time. There were some people at the bar watching a game, but they had been served and it seemed that the bartender was just socializing with them. There were plenty of servers on the floor. No one acknowledged our presence at all. They knew we were sitting there, but that did not seem to concern them . This was the worst experience I've ever had at this place the wait to be seated was not that long but the wait to get some service was too long people who came after us were served and gone before we even got our entrees then mine came out wrong and instead of firing another steak they tried to fix the one I already cut into.then the manger was no help just took my meal off the ticket no incentive at all to come back I spent 2hours in this place and still left out without a bite to eat I understand busy but if you can't handle it then don't be a cook especially on a day you know is going to be busy. I will start with the positive.. our waitress was nice and attentive. Our food, however was awful. My mother's roasted Vegetables were practically raw. I ordered the steak salad and it was not as promised. They left off an entire ingredient, it was over dressed, most of it was white chunky Romain lettuce, not mixed greens. It was about 1/2 the size I thought it would be. The manager did take off some of our bill. But I certainly will not order that again if I come back. read more
