This Applebees was great. It's been a long time since I've had a truly good experience at an Applebee's, but this location really turned things around. The service was excellent. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome right from the start. The food was also great. I ordered a steak, and it was cooked perfectly, and just the way I asked. That's saying a lot for a restaurant not particularly known for its steaks. Be sure to take advantage of the special (two entrées and an appetizer for $25) This will save you some money. First, if you're ordering car side to go, don't think for a second you should venture beyond ordering a burger or a sandwich. You'll likely be able to summon a three star rating for these. Applebee's is really not a steak house to begin with so to think ordering a steak to go was a good idea, we'll, it wasn't. Steaks ordered medium was very dry and beyond well done. They was actually inedible but having paid nearly $50 bucks for the meals, and being 6 miles away, we gave it our best effort. The garlic mashed red potatoes was never anywhere near a kitchen with a bulb of garlic laying around. They was dreadfully salty which was the only thing noticeable about them. As I may have mentioned, we've had a few decent burgers using car side to go. Better for sure than the $10 burger and fries at McDonald's. But steak? All orders were made spot on, delivered still hot, and were tasty. Appetizer came out of fryer smelling burnt and tasting bitter. Three servers told us they mentioned it earlier to kitchen staff; kitchen sent food anyway. Waitress took back cheese sticks. Our chicken tenders came out dark and smelling the same way. After sending that back we had to wait another 20 minutes for something not fried. The manager only allowed the waitress to take off 10% of the check which really doesn't even cover the cost of the appetizer we never got anyway. The in duty manager did not even have the courtesy to come to our table and explain/ apologize. Given the current state of not being able to keep employees in business this makes me think it's not that no one wants to work it's the greed of the franchise / franchisee and inexperienced/ poor management. This evening, my husband and I decided to go out for dinner to celebrate his birthday. The waitress had personality of a dead fish. She was slow to acknowledge we were seated. So I played games on my phone. She arrived and requested our drinks, instead we ordered our meals first. About 30 minutes later, she states we are waiting on the fries. This is the place you go to for the drink specials. Staff is friendly and the drinks are good. The food has really gone down hill. Last time there they sent out a plate that was only have completed. I got my beer exactly one minute and 45 seconds before my food arrived...in fact another waitress asked if I needed anything and I told her I'd like my beer. She brought it. Food was not good. We went to Applebee's on their busiest night of the week and they were even more busier then before because of the nearest steakhouse to them was closed because they had a water break . I love Applebee's but their Steubenville oh location has the worst service. Our waitress was rude and impolite. She basically threw out food at us making our cheese sticks fall. And we got no silverware. My very old grandma had her money out on the table to count what we had and she accidentally took the tip off the table from the last person. Our waitress came up rude and yelled at my grandma for stealing. It was a simple misunderstanding she didn't know she took it. And she admired her faults. I understand people have bad days but this is unnecessary. And as for the food I got the bourbon chicken and shrimp the shrimp was either too done or not enough. 08/12/16 visit. I received a gift card for applebess as a gift. I really didnt want to stop but figured I would use my card. I been tempted to try the wood fire steaks but also Knew I would be disappointed. me and my son stopped. I order the onion soup and the smallest steak. I was disappointed that ribeye wasnt on the menu as this is the easiest of steaks to cook. But they only had sirloin. My son ordered the onions rings and thechicken with the stout gravy. Son's review he liked the onion ring but didnt like his meal. He thought the stout gravy meant think and not stout beer. I tasted it and noticed he strange taste to the gravy and then looked at the menu and realized the added taste was beer. Wasnt bad but knew it is something my son wouldnt like. so He made a meal out of the onion rings. I ordered my steak medium and when I got it the first taste was dry and tough.. Right off the I thought they overcook the steak but looking at it and did have the slightly pink center. So it was correctly cooked as a medium. I figure the steak was previously frozen for the dryness and toughness. I wasnt super happy with my meal but I was expecting not to be impressed but only there becuase I had a gift card. Now the onion soup I was usually happy with in the past.. but the soup was very weak tasting in with flavor, as it hardly had any flavor and seemed very watered down. Either that or they changed the recipe. I was really dispapointedin the soup. I feel the steak dinner was more expensive than it sound especially with the quality of the meat. Service was ok. We had a waitress in training. He had someone overlooking her. As soon soon as we walk in and were going to be seated, there was yelling across the restaurant about were we could sit. They were arguing back in forth for a little about it. There was employees sitting at a table with masks hanging below their chin and some with no masks on at all. I get it sometimes you need a mask break but do it in the bathroom or a room in the back not right in front of all your costumers. Also, the employees were smoking right outside the dinning room which everyone could smell and as non smoking individual, i did not appreciate it while i was trying my best to enjoy my meal. Kicked things off with a sam '76 that was past fresh as of April 2018 (currently June 2018). I notified the waitress and got it removed from the bill.
