I've been to this Applebees on several occasions since moving here 6 years ago. The one thing I really like is that every Applebees is the same, so in a way, it makes me feel I'm out to dinner "back home." The food is okay, pretty much at any Applebees. I usually sit at the bar and every bartender has been friendly. The restaurant itself is not exactly clean, but not exactly dirty either. I'll return again for a nice glass of wine and an appetizer, not necessarily a meal. read more

Actually it looked like there was nobody working except the one dude I saw step out from the back make eye contact and quickly run back in. I dined on a Saturday at 5pm. Restaurant not too busy. Disappointed in their customer service. The food was good but didn't justify the price paid. I ordered the bone in double crunch chicken wing appertizer 15.49 as my meal (9wings). I ordered my dipping sauce on the side as I was unsure if I'd like the sauce. I didn't like the sauce so I requested a difference sauce and they charged me an extra 1.59. I also ordered a house salad 5.99 and a sweet tea 2.89, which never got refilled. Total bill 25.97+ tax plus 6.00 gratuity. At checkout I requested either a senior or a veterans discount which the waitress says they do not honor. For the money, I could have eaten a better meal elsewhere. Not at all impressed and I'll not visit this restaurant again. read more

Super slow with getting people seated. Food takes forever to arrive. Servers avoid to take orders, deliver food, slow at bringing things to table. I do not recommend eating here unless you want very poor service from all aspects. Also, almost every time I come in here my food is very cold or over cooked or the wrong order. This is the first time I have ever left a review so that should show how truly awful I left feeling. Food was decent..but the bartender was very rude the entire night. When I tried to order a drink she looked at me bewildered like I was a moron and said, "...okay..." in a very annoyed tone. Then came back to tell us she couldn't make the drink, which is completely fine, but the whole situation could have been handled a lot kinder. This place is your typical Applebees....except...there's a SMOKING section! OMG, when was the last time anyone saw a smoking section in a restaurant? I didn't even know those types of things still existed in the world! So yes, if you like smoking with your meal, by all means come here because it is a perfect place to do so. I am, however, not a smoker..so onto the review of the food and service. Food was normal Applebees food, nothing special but nothing too bad either. The waitress was super nice and the manager even came by and asked us how our meal was which I really appreciated. Been in to this Applebee's three times in a week and can say the servers are amazing! Really personable (Shanny is a sweetheart) and friendly. So why four stars...the food is just ok. I've had the onion rings, crunchy and tasty...they get 5 stars. The mozzarella sticks also get 5 stars. The upcharge for Mac and cheese as a side with a steak is NOT worth it...giving that 1 star for being lukewarm, salty and the pasta undercooked (the cheese part was ok). The Sirloin came out medium rare as ordered...had it one visit and another as a combo dish with shrimp...it was just ok. The Chicken Alfredo and broccoli was amazing! If you get the chicken Caesar salad order the dressing in the side because it is bathed in the stuff otherwise. Beer is always ice cold...draft or bottle. read more

Visited here around 11:00 pm. We had to wait around 5 minutes to be seated although there was only 1 other person in the restaurant. As you come in, there is a separate closed off smoking room with TVs and a bar. That area was full of patrons and very lively. Once we were seated the manager and another server were very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. Food was tasty and drinks remained filled. My friends and I arrived and were seated at 1:30p.m. The waitress took our order and in the process my friend said, you don't need to write any of this down and she said no. We ordered three meals with condiments, a to go order, drinks and wanted a shot. She had said no she could remember everything. At almost 3p.m. I received my order with my to go order which I expressed I only wanted it after we ate in the beginning. I didn't receive the condiments I had asked for and she said she would get them. So she left and went to the back. Around 30 minutes later I was down to two bites of food still hadn't got what I asked for even after asking six or more times each time she or another waitress passed the table. My friends finally got their food after I finished. We never got the drink we asked for. It wasn't really busy with a lot of tables full or people coming out the door. I have empathy for people that work in positions like these because it can be stressful. I just think things could have went ten times smoother if it were managed correctly and if things would have been brought back to the table when we asked for it or in the beginning it would have been a great experience. It was like after we asked they would hid towards the direction of the kitchen and never been seen again until they were passing us going to another table. On Sunday, August 5, sometime between the hours of 10pm-11:30pm, my husband and I visited Applebee's in South Boston, VA. We were seated promptly, and after a couple of minutes a waitress came to our table to take our drink orders. She came back to take our food order, and the problems began. My husband ordered a crispy chicken salad as an app, with ranch dressing instead of honey mustard, and the brisket quesadilla as an entree. I wanted to order the 2 for $10, with a salad as a starter, and the spinach artichoke dip to come out as my entree. I asked what was on the garden salad. She was dumbfounded, and said she wasn't sure because she was new. To save her the embarrassment, I just ordered the Caesar, but asked for Italian dressing, which she wasn't sure if they had, so I asked for whatever vinaigrette they had. After ordering, I went to use the ladies room. The waitress came back out while I was in the bathroom to ask my husband what I had ordered, because she forgot. She must have been doodling instead of writing the order down as it appeared. About 15-20 minutes later, the food we requested as our entrees came out first. My spinach artichoke dip was fine, but my husband received the wrong food. He received some type of tacos and fries. He called her back to alert her that this isn't what he ordered. She took the food back, and then immediately brought our salads out (that we had requested as apps). She brought my husband honey mustard (instead of ranch) and brought me a bottle of oil and one of vinegar. I guess they had neither Italian dressing nor any type of vinaigrette whatsoever in the establishment. I decided to just use the oil and vinegar, and some salt and pepper on my salad. I tried to shake the salt and nothing was coming out. I unscrewed the top to see what was blocking it, only to find clumped up salt filled to the brim, and apparently the condensation had been there for quite some time, as rust had formed around the rim as well. The waitress happened to come back out with my husband's "quesadilla" and ranch dressing while I was sitting there stunned by the rusty salt. When I brought it to her attention, she muttered "what the fuck is that?" I understand her shock, but totally inappropriate to use that language. Meanwhile, my husband looks inside the quesadilla, and they barely put any meat inside, and forgot to put the cheese. There was no pico de gallo, no lettuce, just a small ramekin of sour cream, and the "quesadilla". He sent it back, and nicely said that he was fine with just the salad; that he didn't want to order anything else. We ate our salads, and my chips, and tried to enjoy the meal. The waitress came over and asked if everything was okay, and apologized for "whatever happened in the kitchen that ruined the meal." I couldn't hold my tongue, so I said, kindly, that it wasn't just the kitchen; that it all starts with her. She didn't write the orders down, had to come back and ask what I ordered, and then put the wrong order in for my husband. I told her that if she was unsure, she could have clarified both orders, instead of guessing, and I understand that mistakes happen, but sometimes you need to take responsibility for them instead of blaming the kitchen. She was visibly irritated, but I get that it needed to be said, so that she could learn from her mistakes. She left to go get our check. She dropped the check at the table without saying a word, and with an attitude, snatched my plate from in front of me, sending food flying all over me. She muttered an apology while walking away. I was livid! That was the icing on the cake. Apparently the manager saw what happened, because I heard her say to him "Seriously? I already said I'm sorry." Nobody came back to the table, nobody said anything, nothing. I signed the bill, DID NOT LEAVE A TIP, and we left. This has to be, hands down, the WORST experience that I have ever had in a restaurant, EVER. I am still in disbelief almost 2 weeks later. read more

Our visit started out somewhat rocky, but ended up with everything taken care of by many staff members. There were 4 in our party. We were seated and our waitress came and took our order. She was somewhat distracted, but finally got our order for drinks. She was friendly, just seemed like she may have been in training. We received our drinks and ordered an appetizer and our dinners. Our dinners came out and one was the wrong order, because our waitress had written it wrong. All others were correct. I know you are thinking, why the 4 stars? with all of this going on? Usually when I go to SoBo for the track I usually just hit up the Sheetz for some greasy, fattening delicious food. If you're not really picky that might just be a better option. However on this event, we decided to visit Applebee's. Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted promptly and seated in a booth of our choice and our server immediately asked for our drink order. Drinks came and so did the flies. We were harassed our entire meal with these flying pests. The appetizer was pretty good - the pretzel and beer cheese dip. I ordered one of their new specials a 4oz steak and potatoes with the Garlic Rosemary Chicken Pasta. The steak was small but fabulous, cooked just the way I'd asked the pasta however, was dry and you could tell it was reheated and the chicken was cold. Super disappointed considering it was a new special. I ordered water with lemon but the glass was dirty and instead asked for a soda instead in a CLEAN cup. Overall, 2 stars. Cleanliness is free and is just laziness at its best here at this applebees. Our total was $36 and our waitress didn't charge us for drinks... Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

This is not your usual Applebee's...it is better. I suppose it has to be because it is competing with really fine restaurants around this area. The quality of the ingredients is surprisingly good. The frequent bargain selections(the happy hour appetizer menu at far lower prices and special drink offers) mean that if a person times it right, they can have two drinks and a huge appetizer for under $12. The staff is eager to please. But there are the usual crying babies. But when you compare $12 specials to $50 to $100 entrees and drinks, this Applebee's is in a class that other Applebee's never come close to being. read more
