We are leaving for vacation tomorrow and didn't want to cook or have leftovers and decided to come here as we live super close. We were Seated quickly and waitress was right there to take drink orders. We placed dinner orders when she returned with drinks. Super nice waitress and very friendly. Dinner came out and I had the 6 ounce steak with onions and mushrooms and a side of broccoli. The steak was cooked perfect and the mushrooms and onions added a nice touch. The broccoli was also cooked perfect. My husband had the salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Again everything cooked perfect and with good flavors. Our waitress was attentive and we never wanted for anything. It was getting busy inside and we were glad to have come when we did. I will be back - and I hope I get this waitress again. Poor service... we went in for a quick lunch were a seated at the bar section with two kids.. we waited forever for anyone to even come to get us a drink order. We sat for at least 15-20mins then received a waitress who had just walked in the door. She was overwhelmed by how many jobs they put on her. And sadly for her and us we just awkwardly sat there waiting for microwaved food. lol. We had low expectations but my goodness. The lady that was the manager just stood and talked to the tables that were already taken care of while we just sat waiting and waiting. We honestly should of walked out but the kids were hungry so we put up with it. But no thanks there's much better options. When I lived in Boston, Applebee was one of my favorite restaurants, so last evening, I decided to go with a friend to try this one in Roanoke, Virginia out. It was located on 4510 Challenger Ave NE high above and surrounded by beautiful green mountains. The building structure and design looked modern and relatively new. As we entered, the design also looked very pleasant and welcoming, and it was also very clean. On the right was the bar and a seating area, and on the left was a seating area of mostly booths. The host welcomed us and took us to one of the booths on the left side of the restaurant and handed us the menus. Then, after a short while, our waiter Chris came by to take our order. I ordered the Whole Lotta Bacon Burger with fries, and my friend ordered the Bourbon Street Mushroom Burger also with fries. The menu had pictures of many of the items, and they all looked delicious and appetizing. We talked while waiting to be served, and as I looked around the place, I found it to be very relaxing and clean; trademark of all Applebee's. When the food arrived, it looked very fresh and appetizing, although a bit smaller than the pictures in the menu for the price. My burger did taste delicious with fresh soft buns, fresh ingredients inside, and very tasty sauce on the hamburger pattie. I noticed the ketchup bottle on our table was empty and asked for a new one. The waiter brought me one halfway full from the booth next to ours. Before we began eating, I had gone to the men's restroom to wash my hands and noticed it was out of paper towels. I informed one of the waitresses, and she told me she would take care of this right away and gave me paper napkins after I asked her for them. After we had finished eating the main course the manager came by our booth to see if everything was to our satisfaction and to recommend that we have a dessert. For dessert, we both had an Oreo Cookie Shake. It was very good and cold. After We finished eating my friend went to the men's restroom and when he came back I asked him if there were paper towels and he said no. I didn't feel comfortable that the waitress I had asked for paper towels had not followed through on my request. While waiting for the bill, I noticed that one of the tables near us also had no ketchup, and they brought them some ketchup packets because they didn't have any more bottles, they told them. This older couple accepted this and went on eating. When the bill arrived I tried to pay with the Applebee's app: Pay 'N Go, which states PAY FROM YOUR TABLE, Enter the code so you can review your check and pay. Find the code printed on your receipt. Since I wasn't able to do this a waitress called the manager to explain it to me. The manager told me that this store was not using this system because they were a franchise and didn't have to use it and that not all Applebee's used it. To pay the traditional way. I'm very technical oriented so I was a bit disappointed at her answer and hope that if corporate reads this review they will follow-up on this and other areas of improvement that I have mentioned as positive feedback to live up to Applebee's great reputation of the past. She was much friendlier to other tables compared to ours. She avoided our tables and would forget the order and have to come back and ask what we had said. Haven't been to Applebee's in a while so a colleague and I stopped by in-between work meetings. There wasn't a lot of people there at that time so it was very quiet. Our server was great. It took a while to have our drinks brought. Onto the food we ordered, and we waited for at least 45ish minutes to get our food. When we got our food, our boneless BBQ wings were cold and tough. We also ordered a steak MEDIUM-RARE, and the kitchen charred it. It also was so small that it wasn't even a steak and was almost $24 dollars! Now, onto the biggest thing. The lighting was non-existent. We had gone here for my mom's birthday, and she is visually impaired. It was so dark in there that we had to use our phone flashlights to read the menus. read more

I took my grandchildren to Applebees on Challenger Ave. several weeks ago and it will be my last visit there. The food was awful, it was cold and took forever to serve it. I usually like Applebees food but it has really gone downhill, we left most of it on the table. The only positive was that our waitress was very sweet and attentive. This review is for the Applebee's in Bonsack,Va. the restaurant was woefully short staffed. Our server said that due to also running the drive through that she was sorry she had little time for us. Our appetizer is in a take out order box because we never received it and it was still on the bill so it was given to go. We were there 45 minutes before we even had a beverage. In a half empty restaurant we were seated next to a booth with three screaming toddlers. We were only given cocktail napkins because "that is all we have". The salmon was dry and overcooked. My husband's fish and chips was undercooked and slimy under the greasy breading. A side salad was nice and fresh and the fries were good. read more

We arrived at this restaurant at 8:30 on a Monday night... they were not overly busy... it took a little while to get our drinks but no big deal... then we waited and waited and waited... finally our order was taken... and then the waiting continued. My and I's main course finally came after we reminded the server about it at around 10. Went here to use a gift card that we got probably a year ago. Decided we needed to use it before they closed anymore locations. The restaurant was actually about 1/3 full when we arrived and about 2/3 full when we left. The food was perfect temperature and the service by Victoria was exceptional. Everyone knows that when you go out to eat its not just the food that makes the trip, and Applebees on Challenger Ave in Roanoke is just another restaurant where the food is great, but the service is terrible. Our trip started out perfect, my girlfriend and I were sat almost immediately, our server greeted us soon after, and our drinks were delivered in a timely manner. My girlfriend ordered one of their new alcoholic beverages and it looked so good I had to try a sip. I ended up ordering one of my own and this is where the trouble started. I had to wait over ten minutes for our sever to return to our table as she had to check on the table behind us four times before even thinking about coming back. In this time my water glass sat empty, something the waiter in the section next to us noticed, but failed to fill. When I finally got my drink it was completely different from the one my girlfriend had just received, being a completely different color and with about half an inch of foam on top. It tasted like pure pineapple juice, so I sent it back. The hesitation in our server's face should have been enough to tell me that was a mistake. We watched our server confront the bartender, only for the bartender to argue with her and refuse to remake the drink. It took getting the manager to come talk to her- and have a laugh at our expense- for her to begrudgingly remake it, using jiggers to make sure she got an exact pour. The drink tasted perfect when I got it, but at this point we were so furious we just wanted to eat our food and leave. Our steaks were perfect, and after we paid the bill the server was more than happy to be extra attentive, but I can't help but think our $62 could have been well spent somewhere else. My girlfriend and I have been going to this applebees for a long time, getting carside to go around 3-4 times a month and spending AT LEAST $40 every time we go (that's about $120 a month) , but after this experience we will not be returning. read more
