The music is bad! Seemed like if I was in la Frontera Reynosa, Mexico. I like all types of music, but the bartender kept playing all banda, Carrete and norteno music from Mexico. No wonder the place is always empty. Wife and I were not the only ones annoyed at this crap music, but other patrons were complaining. Last time I checked Applebees is in the great USA not Reynosa, Mexico. We have been to this Applebees on the Expressway in McAllen before and I do not see any Winter Texans. Come on, replace the bartender with a legal status one or tell him to stop playing his crappy music from the juke box and concentrate on serving the patrons. The manager is mostly at fault. We wanted to relax a bit to eat and have several adult beverages. We just walked in from being in the hospital with a family member, took several minutes to be seated (maybe 8 tables occupied in whole store), which was fine except that when we were walked to a table, we passed at least 2 dirty tables. The man that seated us, tried to seat us at a booth with food crumbs all over the table. We asked for another table, got a face from the man, then he took us to a table that had sticky drink stains from 2 glasses on it. This place was empty as you would expect and there was chips all over the floor in the table we sat at. Immediately was greeted and asked how many and was welcomed to sit anywhere (as I chose the bar). Bar Manager (Gabby or Gabbie? Idk, but also Gabriella or Gabriela?) was amazing! Super friendly, nice, funny, and helped me know what's to do around town! (I'm kind of new to McAllen.) Then the night got quieter but the place got "louder"! The regulars started coming in and Gabs didn't miss a beat! Still attentive, still fast, still super sweet. 10/10. WOULD return but it's a little far from where I live. But idk. She was awesome. If I could give this place a 0 I totally would.. I recommend you go elsewhere and avoid this spot. My friends and I come here often and usually the service and overall experience is a solid 3 out of 5, it's nothing special here it's just that it's the most convenient place for all of us to meet at but after last night they can bet that they will no longer have our business.. we are more than 20 regulars here.. It was my fiancé's birthday (and he insisted on this place and only for the convenience because the servers up to management are horrible) The night was good on our part but the server we had named Joey I believe was horrible, our tables where always a mess and he never really kept up with us (this is already gonna be a low tip) but not only that.. he would intentionally ignore us and never really seemed to keep up with us.. I would say in his defense it was a busy night but I'm gonna stop right there because it seems that we always have to come up with excuses for this locations poorly trained staff. He could've been more attentive and friendly towards us despite what was going around him but the (rotten) cherry on top was the manager on duty a lady named Maria I believe... not only was she rude towards the end but she seriously lacks proper management skills and I really hope she gets the training she needs on proper customer service and on how to better "judge" people.. She would come from time to time to "check up" on us and the first couple of times we failed to tell her how poorly the guy was doing but only since we where enjoying my fiancé's bday and didn't wanna spoil it but after awhile we just all got fed up and wanted to at least swap out waiters.. she first told a server that we knew there that he couldn't serve us because Maria said no and when she came over her main response was that "we have to keep control of alcohol consumption" and wanted to cut all of us out and towards the end she "cut" nobody off but my fiancé.. the only guy that wasn't complaining or anything.. she kept insisting that she was closely monitoring his alcohol intake and that everyone else was good.. keep in mind the rest of the party of ours had taken more alcohol than he did but yet he was the only one cut off... But What I brought to her attention is that it's funny how you're "closely monitoring" my fiancé's alcohol intake but yet you can't seem to see how dirty our tables are, how piled up with trash and plates they are, how he was repeatedly missing to check up on us, how he never even seemed to take our orders in, how he deliberately ignored all of us and not not only our 2 parties but his other tables as well... but it's awesome how you did your 1 out of a dozen jobs and watched a close eye on his alcohol consumption but failed to see everything else.. Needless to say we aren't going back there and we will make certain that our friends and families don't attend here as well.. I suggest that this location properly trains their servers and management on how to properly perform their jobs and on how to provide excellent customer service. We will be calling corporate as well so that maybe they get properly trained or even better if they get replaced with the correct people that will make sure things get done right. read more

Food was pretty good here, it's a chain restaurant so there was nothing mind blowing. I did like that this location has a juke-box on the wall that actually changes what music plays inside the restaurant. Kind of cool to hear the array of music that played and sing along. I do like the healthy eating options that are appearing on a lot of these chain restaurant menus, and the food is actually pretty good! Mmm! Not overly impressed with the food here, but at least you know what you're getting when you come to an Applebee's! The waiter was the only decent thing about this trip. My food was repulsive. I ordered the four cheese mac and cheese with honey pepper chicken tenders. I am attaching a picture of what I got. The photo shows what it looked like after I mixed it on the plate looking for a sign of cheese. When I asked if I was served alfredo sauce with noodles. The manager explained that it is a sauce with some cheese. I explained that mac and cheese should contain cheese. He offered to bring me some cheddar cheese. I declined If I had wanted to make my lunch I would have stayed home. This dish should contain romano, asiago, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese. I get it these are pricey cheeses. I came here during my lunch hour which was at 3:30 PM. I found it to be very nice from them to still permit me to make use of their lunch special offers since it was well passed that time. I could tell they were a bit desperate for customers since the restaurant was very empty but at the same time there was only one waitress running up and down taking care of all the tables so it took a little while for me to be attended to. I had the club sandwich special which I have to say was delicious and along with it I got the basil soup which I had never had before and came to find out I was not a big fan of it. Overall I have to say I was very thankful with the staff for permitting for me to get that lunch special and being able to have that economical lunch I was looking for which most places wouldn't do. read more

I came to eat and I planned on eating a lot so I came on an empty stomach, I'm thinking of my wing flavor line up and everything. I barely got my third round of wings and I'm waiting for the waitress to come so I can choose my next flavor and when she finally did she said there was no more wings. I would have greatly appreciated at the very least a warning that they were on the last bag of wings, maybe then I would not have had my hopes up on eating endless wings. After being told there was no more wings the manager comes and says that I ate plenty, so I stated that I had only had 15 wings when the menu clearly says that they were ENDLESS WINGS. She says "you had 3 refills already, there's nothing I can do". "No ma'am I only had 2 refills. My first plate was Garlic Parmesan, my first refill was honey barbecue and my second refill was extra hot buffalo." Came here from Arizona because our relatives wanted to eat here. What a disappointment; they took a long time just to bring our appetizer which was the chips with queso. The chips were stale and then our raspberry tea which was supposed to be sweet wasn't. There were only three waiters for a busy Saturday so our meals took a long time. When we did get our order the food was too salty. After we finished, our bench broke off. Apparently it has been this way and they have not bothered to fix it. I am highly underwhelmed. Avoid this place. Tl:dr - mom who never says anything bad about anything can't stop dissing this place. Slow service. Low quality food. Pros: - the steamed broccoli was good - when wrong plate delivered, the exchange was easy - at least the lettuce wasn't wilted (I'm trying to add positives... it's hard) Cons: - waited at front door for 4-5 min before anyone asked if I wanted to be seated (they weren't very busy) - very slow service, it never got better - wrong order came out - the "medium-rare" came out barely medium, almost 1/2 of it was well-done - the "sirloin" stir fry came out very dry, gristly, and tasted like it was someone's first time cooking meat that was very low quality - the "Caesar" salad dressing was similar to mayonnaise water. I added lots of cheese to it to try and add some taste to the salad - it took 17 minutes to get our check and fresh waters. Another 14 minutes to get the bill fixed - the bill was wrong and was I charged an additional $13 (good thing I check) I usually tip large. Tip would have been ~$21 Tip given was ~$3 read more
